Did we get the Tactics Wrong?

I thought the tactics in the first half were fine! Daniel and Felipe wrecked havoc. we should have been ahead by half time. Coveny is not a good player! he is miles past his peak, he plays like a young fast striker which he IS NOT! get Costa Barborouses in, he would be a good impact sub, with pace and hunger; which coveny lacks. Tim Brown instead of Farrante is obvious, Farrante isnt up to par atm. With Brown and Aloisi in the middle it will allow Daniel and Felipe more sapace to push forward and out. Johnson played dam well though, We NEED an out and out winger, someone with pace and can hit killer crosses, we lack that and against teams like Jets that play with no width it would be killer and allow Felipe to play his actual role as striker along with smeltz which would be awesome!

Heres the line up we should play with;

                            Paston(when he gets better)

   Christi         O'Dor       Dodd       Lochhead(or perhaps Johnson?)

                  Brown          Aloisi          Johnson

Felipe/Daniel                Smeltz                Daniel/Felipe

Subs;
Barborouses
Farrante
Cleberson
Moss
Old

We were unlucky no doubt, controlled most of the game and got done by a poxy goal - but they played a pretty good game away from home.

We created two good chances in first twenty minutes - but after that i thought newcastle defended pretty stoutly, scrambled well with plenty of numbers behind the ball. We got around the outside a few times (via Lochhead), but it was always a very congested space in which to cross. Even the one Ferrante fired over in the second half (after the keeper dropped the ball) was a shot under pressure of a desperate challenge.

My gripe about the sole striker is that it puts a lot of emphasis on Smeltz trying to collect ball at first phase, hold up and distribute. That takes it out of you - running shuttles across the half way line - and it also makes it difficult for us to get Smeltz into goal scoring positions. He is our finisher and we need to get him in space and free him up to get shots on goal. Not sure that will happen very often if he has to patrol alone.

Off my chest now. Time to crush sydney by 4.

thought every shot/ cross (bar 1 or 2) newcastle had alot of numbers behind the ball.Away game tactics. we were unlucky but should of put them alway by half time.  There right back was woeful and it should of been exploited all game
