Note that Fred is planning to do a story on fan reaction - so if you write something half sensible or just outright provocative you might find yourself in the Friday paper

I think Fred hit the nail on the head with that.

Good article and the required playing positions needed was spot on.

General agreement with this. I was particularly dissapointed with the spoken attitude in the last month from management, that they were not concerned about finishing last. I dont know if that was the view behind doors, but we didnt seem to be desparate enough on the field, particularly in the first halfs of those final matches.

All clubs will be recruiting to strengthen, the standard will be higher once again, as it has been each season.  The weak points are obvious as pointed out in the article. Good luck with the signings Terry Ricki and Tony.

Quality from Fred, as per usual.

yea a good piece. i thought the part about the change in attitude from the club in the last 2 or 3 weeks was worrying.
interesting what was said about cleberson, if he was bought into be a lynch pin that would surely be a pretty massive mistake. they must have known the guy couldnt speak english and that it would take him a while to get upto speed. surely not ideal when you wont the guy anchoring your back 4

In fact that Cleberson disaster was very similar to the Knights signing Matt Carbon, I'm pretty sure he was the defensive lynchpin as well, but injury meant he never played once. At least with the Nix we got to see Clebs at his best, and worst.

yeah not much to argue about there.

The biggest positive has been the city (and the odd Aklder) embracing the team - which bodes well for season II when we get our sh*t together on the field. I think we started a lot stronger than we finished, which was disapointing (and rather strange). Not sure why exactly. Maybe suspensions, injuries, other teams getting stronger, and maybe just a bit of uncertainty amongst the team knowing they were playing for their next season's contract (or being frozen out till they signed that contract).
We were certainly a much more formidable team at home - and our road trips will have to improve next season.

home 2w,4d,4l gd = +1

away 3w,1d, 7l gd = -13

as you say feverish better at home in terms of goals f and a but  (surprisingly) same points picked up home and away (1 more away game - which should be reversed next season surely)

agree about the disappointing end to the season (except newcastle away)

It is crucial that we play well at home next year. I know the fever and the whole crowd have done their utmost to will the team to win, so its really up to the players, the combinations...
It is a terrible long drive home, feeling gloomy when you've lost, but the kms just fly by when we've won.

true, that 2 wins 4 draws could have easily been the other way around and from memory our second home game v adelaide was on it's way to  a draw until right at the end

even getting back to kilbirnie is a bastard after we've lost, so the drive to Mataataa must be spectacularly grim

then again, HN must have had some bad trips back from Auckland

Fred was spot on. Thank goodness he did not mention Dodd as one of the good things

I think it was a good article and pretty spot on. I especially agree with regards to the attitude of the management who concieded 'oh it doesn't matter where we finishing'.  That kind of attitude isn't going to rouse any motivation in the players especially (cough) Ahmad.

I think he could have given a mention to Dodd who was admirable in defence and he could have also commented on Felipe and Daniel falling over all the time - it's just not the Kiwi way mate.

No, but the home results just weren't good enough. We make a lot out of the fact that it is very difficultfor us to play away in Aussie, but it's exactly the same trip for them coming here. It needs to be tougher, a lot tougher.

I think along with CLeberson Ross would have to be listed in the same category. He was signed to be our midfield lynchpin and a combination of inuries an suspesnsion meant he barely played. Off the field was another matter and he was obviously great. That meant our midfield was often different and that was definitely a concern. When you're spine is changing, it's always difficult to get real rhythm.james dean2008-01-23 14:20:30

Excellent assessment  and Leggy you're right!

Next season is one for all parts of the club to build on! including us fans. Some of the behaviour by a few was not cool, but thankfully 99.999999% of Nix fans were awesome and bloody good to meet. The Back Bencher and the fans grew together. The Hot Dogs, Burgers etc and a cold beer on a sunny evening made it perfect before the game. Thank God there weren't too many drunkards.

Next season, I'd like to see the encouragement of families attending. Perhaps Aisles 15-18 should be family season ticket zones?? Now that we will have big screens at both ends of the ground it'll make a nice touch for the fans at both ends of the ground.

I hope to get a group together from my work and we get a block of season tickets. I hope the club and ticketec have sorted the issues out. One should be able to buy a season ticket for any seat in the stadium - that hasn't been purchased by a season one fan.

Just adding there may be nine or ten teams next season, with two newer teams in the Gold Coast & Northern Thunder.

I guess this means the pressure is on RH as by the time these squads get the go ahead they will only have a limited time to get players.

Way to generous on player ratings.

The only players worthy of a rating in excess of 8 for the WHOLE season were possibly Moss & Smeltz.  Dishing out an 8.5 to a defender that cant defend is suspect.

all ratings are arbitrary, all they provide is a reference point to compare one players performance against another. The actual numbers themselves are relatively meaningless
