If we can get him home, it'd be even better. He has the touches and I felt was much under used by Perth. Come home Leo, you know it's the right thing to do! Lonegunmen2007-09-30 21:06:53

Bertos was their best player for me, especially in the first half. On that performance he'd be an asset assuming there was room for him in the side.
btw, any one know if he's related to, I think it was George Bertos, who played for CYFC and Olympic in the early 80s? I remember two excellent players: Bertos and another guy called I think Harry Kotsapas. But it was all long ago and far away....

Leo is definitely Georges son, hopefully he`ll come home next season.

Yes I believe he is Georges son.

I see Harry around sometimes he was a good center forward and a real nice guy. I remember him chasing the ball after it went out and  slide tackling him about 5 yards over the goal line.

Hah! Bet you played for Wharfies! Remember Harry had a neat little Pepe Lopez moustache - the most dapper player in the Central League.

Hopefully we will be cheering him instead of jeering him next year. I'm confident he will sign for his hometown!

While everyone was booing Leo's every touch of the ball, I was chanting "he wants to plays for Phoenix".......and I'm sure he gave me a little nod mid way through the 2nd half.....

Yes - hope Leo took the booing how I meant it at least - ie you're playing for the wrong team, come and play for us next year! He looked the pick of their players, and kept on trying to create something till the end.

Aisle 30 gave Leo a 'Leo gives us a wave'! Was quite funny!

Hopfully he does come play for us next year, 90% pointing to yes im guessing.

Quite the opposite. Seeing as Leo has about 78 cousins, 22 uncles, and 4 brothers sitting in Aisle 30, he gave us a wave...

I really do think Bertos was their best player and in the second half the Glory were completely impotent because we had him pinned back in their half. I hope he comes home, if he does we'd better give him some extra loud cheers to make up for yesterday.

He is pretty quick, ran down Daniel easily. Though Daniel isn't the quickest player going around. Definitely would be a good player to have if we can fit him in the squad/cap next season.

I agree.  He was definitely looked the Glory's most creative and dangerous player.  One question though, if he does sign for the Phoenix next season - could we fit him and Daniel into the same team?  Both are left-sided attacking midfielders.

You can tell that Bertos is class, every time he got the ball he looked light years better than the rest of the Glory players.  I was surprised just how clearly he stood out from a team I expected a lot more from.  He would be a real addition to the Phoenix in central midfield - Johnson and Aloisi are coming to the end of their careers after all.

Im not sure he would really fit in at centre mid hes much more a natural right winger. If elrich stays it would be hard to see where bertos could fit in.

I defenatly think theres a spot for Leo in the starting 11 along with Elrich and Daniel. Although i dont think RIcki would prefer it i would play Elric on the Right, Daniel CAM, and Leo on the Left.

he sure wasnt in goal. i managed 2 catch up with leo during his stay in wellington and he is stoked that professional football has finally arrived in his hometown. Im sure he will be back in wellington applying his trade at the phoenix. Hope he rips up this season at perth and see him in welli soon. Gooo BERTOS.

im also sure that leo can gel into the phoenix starting XI easily. being one of new zealands best attackers if the best at the moment i dont see why he can start for the nix. he can play anywhere in the mid. good on the either wings but also fancies himself in an attacking centre mid role which i know he can play. also able to play up front. im sure ricki can find him a spot in that starting line up.

and no.. never played in goal.

Go the nix.. phoenix til i die!

always room for felipe hes always going to start. but leo can play in many attacking positions... very versatile...! being naturally right footed hes worked on his left alot. and to me i cant compare the two anymore... Wombles172007-10-02 00:13:44

I think I recall something about Leo was going to serve out this year of his contract and then look at coming back? It was back in May or June I think (can't remember when but I remember reading about it) He had spoken with Perth on the down low and while he didn't ask for a release, they said that he was a big part of his plans after the year he had last year.

Could there be a bidding war next year for him. Home vs Money?

Isn't he also a left footer? (someone put right above) He wouldn't replace Johnson because they are different types of players and have different skill sets.

I'm gonna boo him as hard as I can for every match against Perth this year, hoping that next year I'll make up for it by cheering him on even harder as he takes to the field in black in yellow.
