I still hate that Sydney are playing in the ACL in a few weeks instead of last year.

The movement of players for the ACL is beyond a joke. Not just this year, take adelaide last year playing in the ACL, they were nothing like the team that played in the A League.

Biggest concern with this is the possibility of injury and the fact that the Bling will be in his ear about making move permanent no doubt talking up the uncertain future of the nix.

This is ridiculous. What a f**king circus. Will vomit a little when I see him run out in a Sydney shirt.

What will you guys say if he breaks his leg? Of course, was his choice and we would never not let him go blah blah blah but still kinda rubs me the wrong way

This.

I can't see how this benefits us at all, even for the money.

I guess that Andrew Durante is quite happy to wear the sydney blue(god I hate those w**kers) The issue I have is does this put him in the shop window for moneyed up clubs to make offers we cannot refuse?

The club really has to let players do these sorts of things. Be good to your players and keep the dressing room happy. If you deny players these or international opportunities the club would develop a bad reputation that would hurt future player recruitment. The chances of him picking up a serious injury are pretty remote and I am assuming Sydney are paying for insurance. He is exposing himself to a greater market which isn't ideal because I would love him to stay for quite a while longer, but there is no way I would deny him this.

Good point. If we didn't let Dura go play for the Bling for a month or two, he might want to go somewhere else permanently. This will always be a huge issue for us until either the ACL or the O-League let us in.

Re Paul T

Yes it definitely does. And there is the possibility of a transfer fee if iti happens, so the club wouldnt stand in his way.

As Mickey Mouse as it is, cant blame Durante for taking the chance, good luck to him

There are only two negatives in this as far as I can see 1: Injury 2: He likes playing for Sydney that he wants to go back.

Otherwise, where is the negative? The player is sitting idle, keeps him match fit, yes it does shop front window him but it will also help any ambitions he has to play for Socceroos.

If we say no, we might create disharmony with our club captain. While I personally don't like it, if all the i's are dotted and t' crossed, then its a good move.

In the unlikely event that Sydney win it, we'd have the joy of winding their supporters up by telling them they only did it because they had to borrow players off other teams.

We're not allowed to play in it, but our players are! Go figure.

Don't really have a problem with either Durante wanting to play or the club releasing him, just find the whole idea of signing players from other clubs just for the ACL campaign ridiculous.

I agree with that, I was only speaking from the Phoenix point of view, not about the integrity of the acl. Same thing could be said for the a-league finals though with transfers allowed quite close to the post season. The other teams are also doing it. When watching the roar vs the mariners the commentators were talking about one of the roar players having a short stint lined up for one of the korean teams once the finals are over.

I'm not sure if many others would agree on this but the fact our captain has sailed ship for a loan deal to another team in the A League makes me wonder if I actually want his as our captain. I know its an international competition and all, but wheres the pride for the Yellow and Black.

Disagree. I have no doubts about him as our captain.

Also have to take into account that next season is mostly likely to start late Sept or Oct. 7-8 months of no football.

Durante is well known to all A League clubs and should be known to all major players in Asia, Ian Fyfe got a move to Korea, Djulbic is off to China and they are further down the Socceroo ladder than Durante, and take into account McKain's move to Saudi Arabia directly from us. So not really shop window sort of stuff. Barring any major injury I think it is fine.

not sure i really understand this...you think that the club should 'roll over' to enable players to do exactly as they want in order to promote dressing room harmony?  im probably old school and believe that when a player signs a contract that he plays for that club and that any wheeling and dealing that happens has to be to the mutual benefit of the club and player.. i cant see how thew club benefits in all this

What don't you understand? Durante wants to play. Letting him play will keep him happy. He is not required for the phoenix during that period.

I find the whole situation very bizarre, but I don't really have that much of a problem with it.

Maybe they pay his wages while he's with them. Maybe Sydney have to fork out some dosh to us to get his services?

We're a bit different though,in that we cannot play in the ACL. So a way around that disadvantage is to allow them out on loan during a long offseason.

If we could play in the ACL and a player came up to me (as coach/chairman in my dreams) and said they wanted to play in the ACL for sydney,id tell them to "get us there next season then you can play in it"

You do have to weigh up positives v negatives.

Positives: not pissing Dura and other players who may wish to have the opportunity to play in ACL off
Negatives:....very slim chance of a hugely long term injury (it is a very long off season)

Positives outweigh negatives. Good move.

Yes, but that no different to the Champions League. Any of the top four in England could have huges changes to their squad for the following year.

True. But a whole year and season doesn't pass between qualifying and playing in it. They qualify at the end of one season and play in it during the next. A much shorter turnaround than the ACL - which is over a year between qualifying and playing.

Is there a reason they can't catch that year up?

Hopefully both - he should get paid extra as ACL shouldn't be part of his Phoenix contract (as we can't qualify), and we should get paid to 'rent' our contracted player to them.
