Italiano confirmed McCarron would “more than likely” wear the gloves in their next match against Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park on December 29 – a venue where the Phoenix have not won since April 2017, when McCarron was only nine years-old.

I really hope the young man can have an absolute blinder in goal for us.  Channel his inner Alex Paulsen.

I hope the youngster has a good game and shows he can play at this level.
For the Nix Joshs injury is a disaster. We finally seem to have got the hang of playing the high line. A big part of this has been Joshs ability to sweep from the back. On top of that he has been our best player this season.
Its a huge ask to expect a 18 yo on his starting debut, away against Victory to sweep 40metres in front of goal.
Victory will 100% target him. They will put him under pressure at any chance.
I think Chiefy will have to play a more conservative game with the defense sitting deeper

Getting better each week, confidence is growing seems to be better understanding with his defenders, when he does make a mistake he’s got back up ready to pounce.

Considering how well he's doing, I'd be happy for McCarron to start for the rest of the season. That includes even if Oluwayemi becomes available again.

These are strong words.  While I think he is an excellent keeper for his age, I would think him and Oluwayemi have different strengths.

The lad is a surprise package for the club and a most welcome one. He's brave, has the height and has a decent future ahead of him. I wish him all the best, preferably at the Nix. Competition for the goalkeeping position must keep all contenders on their toes and must help improve them.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!
