its been like 4 weeks in a row that elrich has done nothing but get the ball on the wing, try to give an early ball but fail to clear the first defender or try go round n get beaten, or a new one a couple time tonight put the ball pass and fall over in hopes of a free kick( and half these games have been against 10 men) talkinga bout it in the stands tonight not one person to back him up. needs to take a week or so on the bench. wtabout barbarusos in cover?

Elrich has one thing. a turn of speed when he wants to use it. He doesn't seem too motivated which is a shame as he has the skill but if only he'd use it.

Agreed, hes very one dimensional , and his crosses aint beating the first man.
His passes dont find their man often enough.

I can say only two things in his defence-
1) He shows class about 2 or 3 times per match
2) He gets some pretty shocking passes going out his way.

I'm not so sure about his speed LG. Someone else pointed out last week that since recovering from his injury, a bad one by all accounts, he has lost a little confidence in his pace. THis was evident to me tonight when on one of the few times he has deliberately put the ball past his man and raced him for it he was found wanting.

Seems to me that his speed days might be past and he is having to adjust to a new style of play. Having said that I don't think he played too badly tonight, and I almost think it was a mistake replacing him with Johnson when he was still managing to cause trouble down the left and putting in some good crosses.

I think he is resting on his reputation as a good footballer, and because of this he doesn't put in as much effort as he could. If I am right in assuming this then I think he is arrogant and Ricki should definitely sub him for Costa. I know Costa's young, but you don't pick a football team on age, but on skill.

He's a marquee player and apart from that wonder strike he has been mud. Poor delivery from open play, poor delivery from set pieces and giving away possession far too easily in the attacking third. I don't care if he's getting back to fitness he needs to deliver and plainly he isn't.

I hope he doesn't start next week. Loved seeing him be called off - hopefully he'll get motivated soon, he needs a kick in the arse.

wasnt he injured for the past 18months and his first game with the nix was his first since his injury?!?!?!

he shouldnt be our marque player, he has no passion it seems. Theo Zagorakis should be our marque!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

perhaps a 17 year old replace meant will be the egosmasher the nix need!!

see i thought he was good tonight. got involved in different positions more and seemed to be doing a few different things, i also thought he bought thrust on the counter which i havnt seen from us before.

I think some people are being a bit hard on him.  He's always involved, does some good things and some not so good things but he's no worse than anyone else.  I think this "marquee" tag is a little unfortunate.  Apart from Juninho (who is over the hill anyway) and the wrong Aloisi, I wouldn't say any of the A-League stars are worthy of such a description.  Do we really need to know that one of our players is paid more than the others?  In his case, I can't imagine it's much more.  Let's see what he's like next season before we write him off.

I would love to see Costa get a start wide right next week, he'd definitely be quicker than Elrich and against the Galaxy he showed that his delivery was quite intelligent at times as well.

agreed, as has been said before by a few, he came in as a Marquee (to the surprise of some) not because he was 'a class above' but because that way we could get another good option in, outside the cap

for me i'd like to see more effort in getting back quicker, and in chasing balls that he might not easily get but by doing so forcing the defender to make a decision  and hopefully an error

agreed. i think he's getting better and will continue to do so. He has natural talent, which you can't teach, and once he starts adding some variation to his play like he did a bit last night, he'll be a handful

I actually thought Elrich went ok last night, he instigated a number of good break outs, and then got dogged by that B-grade Hollywood actor Seo whilst he was setting up a breaking movement.  A couple of his free kicks looked likely too.

Not an A-star performance, but it was better than before no doubt.

wow i serioulsy didnt expect for him to have so much back up. the points are valkid. but the excuse of hes comming back to fitness has been used alll season and he still fails to perform. besides that one goal which was class i cant remember anything else he has really done. once aloisi n brown are fit i think our midfeild needs a reshuffle.

Admittedly he did play a lot better last night, but he has to be more consistent and start chasing the ball a bit more.

I honestly thought Elrich went alright and I still have belief in him. Any chances we can secure him next season - I reckon another season under Rikki will do him the world of good.

I thought Elrich was better last night...still not great but better!
According to the interview he gave in the Galaxy program he was the fastest guy(pre injury) at Fulham...
So what do we have here. A potentially great player who lacks confidence after a serious knee injury or a good player who's bad injury has cut out there primary weapon...pace.

He has some good touches but is either unable coz of his knee, or unwilling to do what wingers do....go past defenders and cut the ball back from the by line.

I think Ricki will stick with him..the motivation is there...he majorally threw his toys out of the cot on the bench when he was subbed off. Which suggests a player frustrated at not being able to do what he used to.

I'm a believer in fielding committed players who are perhaps not as skillful over the more skillful but not so into it players. Its difficult to tell whether he's just not match fit enough yet (although you think he'd be more or less close to over it now) and needs a few more games under his belt, or is resting on his laurels and just thinks his place is cemented in the starting team. I'm worried about putting him on the bench as rather than having the effect we'd want it to have, him getting the message that his place isn't assured, he'd just sulk and play worse which would be detrimental to the team. I think Ricki just needs to have a good solid talking to him but we can only hope for this to happen!

You could see Elrich getting frustrated with some of the service he was getting last night.  Having said that he was poor again.

Cannot see how Daniel can be on the bench and Elrich playing ahead of him.  Daniel might not be a natural right sided player but Elrich is hardly fulfilling that role to any great effect.

Elrich is playing alright lads.  The service he is getting is sh*te at the mo, the boys aint laying any decent ball off for him to hit at pace.  I tell ya what, if he wasnt in the team we would miss him more than you think.

Apart from him, Felipe, & Daniel none of our boys are able to beat a man and get decent ball in for Smeltzy.

He has the potential to b a real star of this league, Costa is a long way from that. Therefore, in my view Elrich should always play. He links play from defence to attack well and he keeps the ball. He needs to improve his delivery, that's for sure and I agree that he doesn't back his pace. But we should focus on getting him right, because he is quality.

Elrich's been exceptionally poor - can't believe people defending him and saying he had an OK game last night. For Christ's sake, he was receiving the ball in so much space out wide on the right, and came up with pretty much nothing from so much dangerous possession. It got to the point where it just made no sense to pass to ball to him, as he'd lose it anyway, regardless of how good a position he was in.
And not to mention his infuriating tendency not to chase anything that's not coming staright at him. I initially thought that this was due to his lack of fitness and still may well be), and was seriously wandering last night if it was lack of committment.

James Dean, you obviously think costa can get better by sitting on the bench?? Look at the likes of Michael Zullo, Robbie Kruse from Qld and Nathan Burns from Adeliade, the reason they are good players, is because they got a chance, the coaches of those clubs had balls and put these young guys in their starting lineups because they show potential, so instead of saying not yet not yet, and this goes for everyone, he wouldnt do any worse than any other player on the park, give him a chance for christ sake!!! Beacause I am telling you now, another club will snap him up and then watch the tears

Ricky Herbert hasnt got balls, he has his favourites and has never been an attcking style coach, a bit more defensive minded.

I would suggest some are defending him because he actually took on his man once last night and got to the by-line, but then tried to take him on a 2nd time and had the ball taken off him.  Oh, and he knocked over one accurate cross.

I think he showed a alittle more enterprise last night, but not enough, and it's been too long. Bring on Costa. Let him have a run now. At least he has pace and fitness, and takes on players. That's more than we seem to be getting from Mr Marquee. What else does Elrich bring to the party?

I've had enough - he played a bit better last night, but still  falls way short of what's required for me - one good run in the game isn't enough. I put on here "get in the gym" 2 weeks ago, doesn't look like he has (not as much as he should anyways!), and I now reckon it's time for him to be dropped for a bit.  A pity as we need all the class players we can get, but if they're not good (fit/committed) enough, they're not good enough - end of story.

Fair point. I agree he doesnt seem committed enough. It's the business end, and we need players to go a step up.
