If he's carrying a long term injury which has affected his performances then it makes things tough. It makes signing him a gamble. I'd like to see him stay because of his history with the club and the fact that he's a good leader off the pitch but it would have to be on a whatever's-left-in-the-cap-and-we'll-help-you-rehab sort of deal.

I think there is very little room for sentimentality here based on one good season a while ago. If you have some context to show that Burns is a good leader off the pitch then that would be helpful, but if he continues not playing then good leadership is simply not enough.  We will have Durante hopefully playing on, and easing into precisely that role now (unless he makes good on his statement that he might even play a year across the ditch).   And speaking of playing across the ditch, I would agree to see Burns as contributing in other ways to our development work with new / young // squad members, but ultimately he is likely to return home to Australia sooner or later while someone like Dura may well come back here after his playing days are over.

Dura on the bench or in the back office is fine. We have to find someone better as CB, when the team was shark, he was not pulling his weight as well, which in theory should not happen as one of the leader in the team. This said, it was good season for him overall, but I guess it is time to call it.

One thing Dura does better than most of the CBs in the league is carry the ball forward. I would like another player who can do this, but a little quicker and less mouthy.

True, but have a look at the goals that we conceded against MV and he was at fault for at least 2 of the 3.

I agree Leggy - we need an upgrade.

Interesting to see the breakdown of where/who our goals came from this year, given we've never had a season where two players were responsible for so many of our goals. Of the 46 we scored, 30 were by Krishna or Williams - understandably it tails off rather quickly after that.

  • Roy Krishna: 19 goals, 4 assists
  • David Williams: 11 goals, 0 assists
  • Sarpreet Singh: 5 goals, 8 assists
  • Louis Fenton: 3 goals, 2 assists
  • Mandi Sosa: 2 goals, 2 assists
  • Steven Taylor: 2 goals, 0 assists
  • Cillian Sheridan: 1 goal, 3 assists
  • Liberato Cacace: 1 goal, 2 assists
  • Max Burgess: 0 goals, 2 assists
  • Alex Rufer and Antony Golec: Both 0 goals, 1 assist.

Have we ever had a season with less than 8 different goal scorers? Also interesting looking back that Fenton and Cacace only had 4 assists between them, I would have assumed they had amassed more than that given how crucial they were to our attack.

What's up with the assist stat, we scored 46 goals but only registered 24 assists. Does that mean 22 goals were either free kicks or penalties? Can a goal from open play be scored with no assist?

From the Wikipedia page on Assists

Most commonly, an assist is credited to a player for passing or crossing the ball to the scorer. It may also be awarded to a player whose shot rebounds (off a defender, goalkeeper or goalpost) to a teammate who scores. Some systems may credit an assist to a player who wins a penalty kick or a free kick for another player to convert,[1][2] or to an attacking player for contributing to an own goal.[3] A goal may be unassisted, or have one assist; some systems allow for two assists.[1][4]

The most we conceded against MC was 2 in a couple of games against them. I checked the hightlights and Dura not really culpable for any of the 4 goals they scored against us across the season.

I'm pretty sure he means MV and is referring to the playoff

Fair enough. That first goal MV used Donachie well to block Dura's run to try and keep up with Niedermeier - should have done better, but the other two? Mandi turns ball over and Kosta accelerates into space between Dura and Kopa, Dura maybe spends too much time to make sure that Toivonen doesn't have a direct path to goal before shifting to Kosta. Nothing Dura could have done with the 3rd. So "at least 2 of the 3" is a major exaggeration.

The first was also a bit debatable as I thought Kurto could've come for it.

own goals, a player winning the ball off the opposition and then scoring, scoring off a failed clearance (Krishna's goal at Eden Park), etc. There's a few

Yep, there's a few in there from Willo especially that didn't require an assist
