The coaching angst seems to have gone into a bit of a death spiral, but it appears a large percentage are wanting or at least open to a change. So who could that be? Interested in discussion about genuine possibilities. Who could we be looking at? As opposed to whether or not Ricki should stay or not.

Luca Trani is apparently keen . Personally I'd love to see him have a crack as head coach.

Midfielder has put forward Ante Milicic  and Paul Okon, and Arthur Pappas  has been mentioned, though I'm not sure how much they're tied up with current roles.

Take Danny Hay's advice and recruit a former all white like Gavin Wilkinson or Simon Elliot (unlikely). Billy Harris suggested Allan Jones, Roger Wilkinson, Chris Milicich and Neil Emblen.

Promote Greenacre or Gould to head coach.

Get on the A-league roundabout and snap up Miron, Fergusson, Culina, Vidosic etc.

Or are there other possibilities?

I thought it was a good thread. It's not angsty (oh noes!), it's asking a proper question, it's not trolling. Do you read other forums? Like, on the internet?

So delete it. I don't care. But I'd be interested in who people want to see come here, as opposed to should he stay or should he go, which the other thread will invaribly turn into.

Anyone but ricki.

Don't sack him, I luffs him.

Condescending 10 paragraph post that seems like it says a lot but actually says nothing at all.

Repeat the above 1000 times.

There we go, we can lock this now.

Really? Because I barely post in here as much anymore. And in the coaching angst thread for example, every third post is yours.

I often avoid long generic threads, I like narrower topics like this...

Can't say I know enough about all those coaches/managers, but Trani does have a standing in the game, reputedly a very smart tactical customer from what I've heard/read, existing relationship with our older players - is he a viable option should Ricki leave or change roles next  season?

Fragmenting the discussion on a single topic into several different places benefits nobody.

Threads hundreds of miles long are already fragmented.

Plus this is a specific question, not a generic Ricki thing.

But the discussion at any one point of time isn't. But meh. I'm with News on this one, I give up.

Ignore anything that Hay and Harris say. Harris because he's an idiot; Hay because he's a representative of the Auckland Old Boys network who've hated Ricki for ages for personal reason and will just want one of his mates in the job regardless of competence.

I also wonder how much credence we can put in anything that Sam Worthington says. Who do you think told him that Luca Trani is keen? I doubt it was Luca Trani.

Doom Post would love him... I'm sure chucking him a bright yellow YF Merc would seal the deal too!

Shane Rufer... we'd be entertaining and the owners would get to see their total football.

5 - 0 losses would become 5 - 3 thrillers, probably still lose, but shit it would be a lot more fun that what we currently have.

How many goals have we scored in our last 10 matches??

19 Feb 04:30

Not really a keen on a coach who doesn't use cones at training.

19 Feb 04:42

Okon's the guy being tipped to end up at Adelaide if interim doesn't work out. Any NZ coach will be a disaster at this stage. This league is Oz culture, not ours.

the worst thing about these forums right now is the amount of telling off that goes on

for me, miron would be the rest option of those presented

i think ricki should be sacked, but i don't think i want him to be (if that makes sense)

Lets do Miron...just for the fun at press conferences. We could have a double act...M and M...Miron and Morgan. The NZ press would not know what hit them.

But seriously there is no way Miron would coach out of Brisbane....he is a very succesful and wealthy businessman and has lots going on in South Queensland. He has spent nearly all his coaching career in the region. Why would he swap his squillion dollar waterfront house in OZ for a cold drafty house in Wellington

Okon looks like he has a good CV. Milicic has the experiance of no2 at WSW. Nix needs a hard nose Aussie coach in my opinion. Time for a few people to get a kick up the arse and a fighting winning mentality bought in.

If you look at the warriors their successful period also coincided with appointing an aussie coach (Daniel Anderson) after Monie, Frank Endacott and Mark Graham.

Miron B. with Luciano Trani as his assistant. Keep Greenacre there too. Miron had his last side playing some excellent football. OK, we tonked them by 6 - once but they were a good side to watch. NO route One football for a start. I like Ricki as a guy but I think he's been found out by the other coaches. And that not having a plan "B" is really hurting us.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

i think it is the plan B ( total football ) that is hurting us go back to plan A and we might get a few results and then there might not be so many sack rikki comments

JD, mark it on the calendar - I heartily endorse your sentiments above. I think it's because he's the only one whom most of them could pick out of a lineup.

Now hold on. I was under the impression that most people here would prefer to win the A-League, so are you arguing that we can win the A-League with the style of football we've played 2009-12? Or have you given up on winning the league?

Whether Ricki's there or not, we have to move to possession-based football, and we've started already.
