I am pleased to see some of the guys/gals out there are also seeing the point of bringing in an Aussie coach here. I have nothing against the concept of Phoenix being the pinnacle of development for NZ professional football, but it should be for players (Fenton, Rojas, etc) not coaches. A coach from very far away will be costly, and unfamiliar with our setup here.
Note that very few imported coaches did well (or lasted) in the A-League - it is the locally grown talent (McKinna, Arnold, Farina, Postecoglou etc) that seem to have done best so far with the sole exception of the early days of Sydney FC and their imported guns for hire.
A younger guy like Okon would be keen to impress the West Island clubs or have a point to prove (like Ante Milicevic). And they would be happier to work with Ricki than a big name import from elsewhere.
I am sure there are enough competent coaches in New Zealand that are not raising their hands for this one (Fallon, Rufer) but in general I am not sure the local competence is enough anymore for today's standard of the A-League.
