I think someone like Okon would be well worth a punt. Even somebody like Luca Trani, who has got some A League experience, albeit as an Assistant Coach, might work.

Like I said somewehere else, it's easy chicking names around but it's gonna be a crucial and very tough call to make sure that, if Herbert goes, we get the right man for the job.

You obviously haven't had women cry beacuse you have played them in a different position

I coached women's football at a reasonable level in the UK for 6 years, and women's footie has a whole load of issues that you don't get with men's football. Not less angst, just different angst.

DOLORAS You are one of lifes believers... Truly admirable trait.

Even though people who had considerable experience and knowledge knew that Terry was fried,  tried to explain, you still defended him till the death.

Though I would walk through the valley of death after 2009 Wellington, 6 years without a trophy is enough!

I am pleased to see some of the guys/gals out there are also seeing the point of bringing in an Aussie coach here. I have nothing against the concept of Phoenix being the pinnacle of development for NZ professional football, but it should be for players (Fenton, Rojas, etc) not coaches. A coach from very far away will be costly, and unfamiliar with our setup here.

Note that very few imported coaches did well (or lasted) in the A-League - it is the locally grown talent (McKinna, Arnold, Farina, Postecoglou etc) that seem to have done best so far with the sole exception of the early days of Sydney FC and their imported guns for hire.

A younger guy like Okon would be keen to impress the West Island clubs or have a point to prove (like Ante Milicevic). And they would be happier to work with Ricki than a big name import from elsewhere.

I am sure there are enough competent coaches in New Zealand that are not raising their hands for this one (Fallon, Rufer) but in general I am not sure the local competence is enough anymore for today's standard of the A-League.

ross is keen to come back to wellington to coach or be an assistant coach but probably not right now, 2 to 3 years away after getting a bit more experience in the coaching side of football.
he also said to say g'day to you all and would maybe see you all one day in wellington in some sort of coaching role with a bit of luck.
i have been stalking ross a little to try and get him to sign his phoenix shirt from that last game he played in wellington when he got sent off near the end of the match,.sending the shirt to him next week after hearing back from him this afternoon.

I did lol at the story as though it's a surprise he'd want an A-League gig.

I bet if you ask every State League coach if they wanted an A-League gig the number that said no would be very, very small.

Yes and no.  I'd be happy to work for an A-Legue side as long as I didn't have to work matchday as I'm not skipping out on the Fever Zone.

Actually, Telecom in the papers tody, I may have the time available next month.

Do you want a report card from Nix management every week? If you really want to know, go down a watch/listen to some trainings?

Good question. For those of us not in the know, where/when is The 'Nix training?

I moved from ChCh to Welly recently so I simply do not know.

I think an interesting decision is whether we want to bring in someone to effectively run the club like Ricki does now, or bring in someone to just coach the first team and have more of the running of the club delegated to off field management.

That would be who not the Welnix guys i hope.I do wonder just what would happen if we get a new coach.Lets face it its not as if  Ricki has had any sort of decent budget to assemble a team.

Love all the names being thrown around but at the end of the day they will be able to do buggar all if the budget only allows them to get the slops.

that's a bit unfair, you know Ahmad doesn't live in Wellington. This is also a forumfor discussion and he was inviting such.

it is pretty hard being from out of wellington, i would like to check out training but it is a bit hard with work commitments and the travel aspect to get to newtown park 2 for 10.30 am training and i guess it would be even harder for ahmad as he would have to use a plane to get there and home again.

I'd be worried if I was selected for the Football School of Excellence then.

Training day duties:

1. Set out cones

2. Fetch water bottles for the senior players

3. Collect cones.

4. Clean senior players' boots

5. Choir practice
