I would like to see us play a 4 - 4 - 2.

Tratt - Dura - Rossi - Doyle

Barbs - A ROD - McG - ?

   Watson - Krishna

Not sure who I would play wide left, Parkhouse in his natural position, Fenton and McGarry are other options.

I would like to see Rufer come in until McG is fit... Lia offers nothing moving forward, bring him on to help see out a game if needed.

We have also played some god awful dire crap under Ernie.

Sure we had some stinkers, but remember we use to be a team that would sit back and defend and just launch crossed into the box. That was literally all we did. And away games we almost always looked getting smashed.

We definitely played better football under Merrick. Though I'm lost for why our home record dropped so much under his watch.

Absolutely undoubtedly we have played a prettier brand of football, but somehow the mix just hasn't been right.  Maybe you need deeper pockets and an ability to wrought the Cap to play pretty football and win a League or even challenge for a league.

We have had three seasons of pretty football, of which two and a half seasons the results have been mixed at best. We just don't seem to have the depth of personnel to be able to pull it off and yes there are reasons why with international windows but unfortunately they are a fact of life for us although oddly enough they have been worse in previous years.

I admire and respect Ernie for what he has achieved not just for the first team but with the club as a whole, but ultimately only one thing matters.

I wonder how much more than us Adelaide or Brisbane spend, I would think this season we're all pretty close.

My biggest criticism is he seemed to have a very casual attitude to defensive solidity (the old call of you score 3 and we'll score 4).  I think that was a bit unrealistic when we did have generally less resources than the opposition and when the goals dried up we were just so easy to beat because we give up 2 goals a game.  When we lost attacking form we just looked so dire because conceding goals was just inevitable.  You look at the signings we made in the off season and apart from Rossi, where we had such an obvious need to recruit an experienced player, they were all signings that were intended to help us score more goals but it left us very unbalanced across the park.

I actually think that our defense this season has been much improved. You compare us to the rest of the league and we are 2nd equal for clean sheets and about middle of pack regarding shots on target conceded per game. In the context of the HAL, our defense is not that bad - it's our goal scoring which has been poor, we have had 100 shots and only scored 6 goals.

Do people really think our brand of football has been consistently pretty? I think in the Burns era it was but much of it since has been laboured and dull. Yeah we've kept possession better than under Ricki but I don't think it's been particularly good to watch. There hasn't been crisp, focussed passing or any sort of creativity for much of the last season and a half. Patches here and there where we string some nice football together but only a few times a game I think.

Agree completely, I think over the last year or so, the football has been pretty dour and uninspiring.

We have been very guilty of playing in front of defences.  We don't have a lot of good possession in the front third

Almost half of those goals conceded came in one game when we were a man down - it reads 8 conceded in 7 for the other games. And if we had the worst defense in the league then do criticise us.

That has been the biggest disappointment for me this season. We have two of the fastest in the league up front and we just don't seem to be able to get them in any space. We have looked ok passing in the defensive and middle third, but it is all very laboured and slow

It's been, overall, godawful to watch for for the last one and a half seasons, with good games spattered in between. The only thing that kept us going was a bit of Roly brilliance last season and a bit of Krishna brilliance this.

I have a lot of respect for Simon Hill compared with most of the other commentators but I'm not all that impressed by him bringing up the future of the club yet again. Can't anyone over in Australia actually give the NIX the 4 years they are entitled to before they start writing the club off? I know he didn't mean it that severely but still I don't think he should have mentioned it.

Anyway, obviously lots of people have lots of options (and obviously mine is right) on the results/product, but I think most of us can agree that he's handled himself with class by fronting the media today.

It would quite easy to slip back to melbourne and jut did a sole interview with someone he trusts.

Merrick was a class act. very dry with the media which I liked.

He did build this squad and it was/is his team.

I feel sorry for the next coach coming in and am sorry merrick didn't wait till the end of the season to step down and give the new coach time to bring his/her own players in.

Good luck to Ramon if he applies.
