After he hung up from Smithy he threw some complete bullshit figures out about the Kingz or Knights as if they were true.Another of those who jumped on the band wagon when we had our sellout finals. But has since jumped off just as quickly while seeming to enjoy putting the boot in and along the way using false facts.

What kind of rankled with me was the guy with near to zero knowledge of the game and club sitting on his high horse and preaching a lot of bullshit. All this comparison with the Kingz/Knights pisses me off as does this belief that the AFA is just an excuse away from pulling the pin on the Nix because some club in some tin pot outback town might want to join the A League.

Ian Ferguson.... Steve McLaren.... what is it with the Perth connection / obsession thing? Neither would get me excited about our prospects.

Does anyone remember how Magilton could not get any decent performance coaching (briefly) Melbourne Victory. Sometimes a half-decent but nonetheless ageing coach is just not the thing.  I agree that Greenie is simply warming the seat for someone else (and saving the owners some money in the process), but at least he is respected by the team. A real decent bloke. My hope is for someone who is not here just for a quick gig before looking for a better deal elsewhere, which is why I am not that keen to consider any big names.

While there are lots of excellent and relatively inexpensive coaches in South America (Chile especially - Marcello Bielsa, anyone? Half price of a European coach, and at least he got his national team to the WC finals), the transition to that style of play would probably be beyond our current roster's capability. Someone like that would be better suited to work with our youth teams to develop the much vaunted possession skills, than to impart on-field tactics.

I would rather Gareth do the job himself, than Miron. Probably would get better results too.

Its funny how that phone call also moved away from ricki resigning, to tearing the phoenix down and spouting the demise of the club. Agenda much?

It was ludicrously aggressive. FFS man, it's just a representative of the club fans you're snapping and sneering at, not some conspirator in a drug scandal.

Pissed me off too that he's belittling Fenton and Boyd. We all know Marco is a talent but he's now got four years of A League experience behind him compared to just the one for F and B.

Eh?  He's having a go at our goalie too?

I think Smithy countered his bollocks really well, but as others said, that just meant that he switched to another line of tabloid bollocks. The Marco stuff was really atrocious, even Worthington couldn't pen such dross. (I think).

Trani definitely keen - quotes in today's paper.

Sounds like Emblen not jumping into this one - says he needs to work as an assistant in pro football first

Aside from that, usual suspects.  Have heard from a decent source that the club is pretty confident in finding a quality replacement - apparently the A-League is quite in vogue at the moment and they have had a lot of unofficial approaches from overseas including a lot from the US.  Major risks with going down that route however

I don't have a problem with people holding opinions, but when those opinions are based on wrong facts (Phoenix having finished last twice already supposedly and going to finish again apparently) then it is hard to really take them seriously.  Constantly referring back to old English football stories is equally weak.

How about comparing to the Kingz?  How about comparing to the Knightz?  That would require (a) research and (b) knowledge of the context in NZ pro football that Phoenix sit in.

Can we really not get someone better than this?

I just hope for Ifill's sake Neil Warnock doesn't make it over here. Rumours are that he is resigning from Leeds at the end of the season if they don't get promoted.

Any thoughts on Ramon Tribulietx? He definitely fits the playing style that Welnix want.

Personally I don't think any good can come from the US unless Jurgen Klinsmann is leaving the national team.

From what I could make of his comments on Gareth's blog he has applied numerous times.

I am going to keep pushing Lee Norfolk's name forward for this role.

He is the only candidate in the world (apart from Ryan Nelsen) whose credentials are as good as Danny Hay's, making him immune to criticism.

You will be glad to know I have reached out to Lee on Twitter to find out if he is applying.
