First things first. Greta game tonight. Bloody awesome - thoroughly enjoyed it. Phoenix were brilliant. C'mon the Nix!!

However, couple of things.

1. I was in Aisle 23 (next to the Fever where i like to be). Right up the back behind us was another group. In the 2nd half someone in the Fever started the chant 'get your shirts on'. This started them off on 'f**k the Yellow Fever'. C'mon - what the hell is all that about. We are ALL Phoenix fans - we don;t want to be like some of those English fans who fight amongst themselves! That's not on. It pissed me off - i had my 9 year old there and his friend - and for a minute the atmosphere turned nasty. Luckily (!!!!) there was the disallowed goal which diffused the whole thing.

For christs sakes guys - it's our FIRST YEAR - let's not get divisive already!Sort your sh*t out..

2. Who the hell do Red Badge thing they are. They evicted the Liverpool wearing shirt guy from the zone in the second half. What for?? We were just getting into it. He was a bloody laugh and the chants he started were awesome. I've written a complaint to both Red Badge AND Westpac Stadium (see e-mail below). I URGE you to do the same. Copy and paste if you like - let's let these t**sers know that football is about singing an having a good time - and Red Badge should not be able to ruin it for us.

"I attended the Wellington Phoenix - Perth Glory game tonight. The game was fantastic as was the crowd support. What really DISAPPOINTED me was the behaviour of one or two security guards. Myself and two kids (my son aged 9, and his friend, aged 9) and another firend and his two kids were all sitting in Aisle 23 having a great time. However, in the second half, over zealous security guards just were being totally unrealistic in their 'policing' of the crowd.

 1. At one stage they evicted a man in a red Liverpool shirt from the Yellow Fever for starting chants! We were all having a laugh at what he was chanting and thoroughly enjoying it. But no - obviously we were having TOO much fun and this had to be stopped at all costs! This guy was NOT drunk, NOT harming anyone, BUT was entertaining us all , and he was evicted.

 2. Towards the end of the game, three boys - probably around 9 or 10 - were standing up and singing with the rest of us. For no reason, a security guard came along and told them to sit down!! What for? They were perfectly safe, and were just enjoying themselves. What a crock!

I think that Red Badge staff do not understand a football crowd. They are use to rugby crowds - boozy, boring crowds who know nothing about having a good time - safely. Football crowds stand up, they sing, and they enjoy themselves.

Get your stuff sorted. Don't let a few ignorant, over zealous security  - maybe with misguided direction - ruin the atmosphere for the crowd. We love the Phoenix and the way they are supported. The sooner security staff accept this the better.

Hopefully this will get through and your staff will get the message that our support is safe and it's not like a rugby crowd. The sooner Red Badge realise that the better.

grr and all this came about because of that one bottle-throwing guy right??

These Red Badge guys need to let the supporters do what comes naturally, and police the idiots, not the people out there having fun and supporting their football team ...

heh i suspected someone would say something about Liverpool fans  .. maybe he was thrown out because he was wearing the Liverpool shirt, if so then thats a red card for Red Badge for just that !! LOL

Hey i'm no Pool supporter - but he was getting the crowd right into it - 'Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, w*nk, w*nk, w*nk' - and they threw him out!! Get a f**ing life t**sers! And telling kids to sit down - have they not heard 'Stand up for the Phoenix!'

Ignorant bloody w**kers!

I was having a good time chanting and singing, and standing in the Zone last week at the Beckham game and I was told to sit down because some people two rows behind couldn't see (because I was tall maybe?) ... I firstly refused as I said it was my right to stand in a obviously standing zone, and the people behind me weren't the original seat holders as the original holders went somewhere els about half hour earlier ... the steward came back about half hour later and told me to sit down or else he would throw me out  ...  so I sat down cos I'm a nice person (lol) but yea, t**ser

I wondered who had started that Aussie Aussie one. As for bottle throwing see my own post.

Yes let's all have a good time, let the kids sing, stand and have a good time. I wonder if the club and fans would consider making the first 2 or 3 rows around the stadia to be kid zones?

I can't believe only 8k showed up, it wasn't cold, windy or rainy.

I think they threw him cos after his chanting he skulled the remainder of his beer then lobbed his empty into the air and it landed about three rows away.

Pretty poor effort on security's behalf, but got the feeling they didn't like the attention he was generating and  when they saw his bottle leave his hand they moved in.

Sorry coxey this is where i have to disagree with you if he tossed a bottle then the only outcome is outa here. This must be removed from the zone if they want to throw bottles buggar off elsewhere and do it.

I agree with you its not nice

I hope you get a reply

I have watched the stewards in the last few games they have no idea whats going on and how to deal with things
I saw a bottle flying and they just stood there and looked I didnt see where it came from but they do nothing yet they ask people to sit down and then escort someone out of the area for doing nothing but standing and singing

Goading ?

There was a few minutes chant light heartedly pointing out that we get shirts of at 80, and earlier is thought to be unlucky.  "Get your shirts on" is hardly goading and a fraction of what some individuals in that group have aimed the other way.

Red Badge are a laughing stock. They've done nothing but try to make life difficult for us. People like Lonegunmen have done FAR more than they ever have in providing a safe environment for us to have reasonable fun in. They're competing with Ticketek for "Worst Player of the Season" award.

In reply to your 1st question The Domestar the reason the chant was started in the zone to put your shirts on,was that the whole shirts off thing started in sydney where those who travelled thought it a good idea to take your shirts of at the 80th minute mark if the phoenix were leading. This has since then become a standard thing.I helped start it as given some of the things that have happened in some of our games recently i didnt want to tempt fate by the shirts being off to early.Maybe some of them could let us know why they fell the need to rubbish the zone. ballane2007-12-07 23:40:19

Hey guys this has been done to death.  The lads up the back of the other block are a group of supporters, just like the Fever.  We chuck some sh*t back and forth.  I hope they don't mean it seriously cos i don't think any of us do.

The more the merrier I say.

As for Red Badge, I am self-imposing banstick in regards to commenting on Security tonight.  Maybe tomorrow...

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Did they go looking for a female streaker? Imagine what Red Star would do if at half time the YFZ up sticks and move to the other end of the stadia? hehehe To watch any Nix goals being scored at that end.

Dear god...why are there so many people whining............

Was an awesome game, atmosphere was great, possibly one of our best games since there wasnt many silent periods and we actually pulled out a wide variety of chants, there are always going to be idiots, tell a steward so they can deal with them, there is no rivalry between fans.

If ive missed any other whiney complaint, its wrong, do something about it, or get over it.

White Noise moved. It took the stewards awhile to realised what had happened, but they all moved. Eventually.

Oh and who start the chanting inside the stadium foyer? It was LOUD and sounded awesome when everyone joined in!

Poor guy.

Speaking of fan support, Egan you have balls! Coming in to the BackBencher before and, even more ballsy, after the game. And also coming in to the Fever Zone to watch the match.

Great stuff.

i think you need to put the whole thing into context, he wasn't throwing at anyone with intent he  non chalantly threw the bottle in the air after being egged on to skull back his beer bit stink
really   as for the dude in l.g's photo thats the sort of crap we don't need !

correct giddyup. as someone who was sober and watched the whole liverpool guy episode unfold I can confirm that he skulled his beer, and lobbed the empty back to the guys in front of him. It wasn't a throw, it wasn't malicious and it certainly wasn't like other people who try and throw their bottles 50 feet in the air.

Red badge security started lining this guy up as soon as he started  leading chants, and you could see they were waiting for an excuse.

The proof is in the fact that a respectable group of 4 (2 sets of husband and wife) joined in the 'f**k off steward' chants.

As for the guys up the back of Aisle 23, I say great work. They sang songs and lead chants all night. Yellow fever started with 'put your shirts on', the lads up the back replied with who are ya, and then yellow fever started singing 'One yellow fever'. I can understand why the boys up the back told you where to go. We are ALL yellow fever, and yet the message you are singing at games is that we must follow a set of rules as to what we can do.

Somehow, I don't think so.

Damn straight! It was the best effort yet by YF - "We're not bottom anymore!" - class! Many varied chants that followed the action on the field - player chants - it all came out.

I was next to the 'pool bloke - he didn't "throw" the bottle - just tossed it up - so Red Badge did over-react a bit - but take that as a warning to keep yer bottles out of the air! Saw him afterward and he didn't seem too fussed about it - took it on the chin.

Loved the "We want our scouser back!" and "We've got the best scousers in the world" chants after he got kicked out.

The banter between fans is just that - banter. I thought it was largely good humoured.

So to the 10000 odd that didn't turn up - you missed a great game - and next weeks chant will be

Where were you?
Where were you?
Where were you laaaast week?

In defense for the scouse lad who was thrown out by the Red Badge.

He's a very good mate of mine to which he gets carried away at times, him tossing the bottle in the air shows that he wasn't meaning to throw this at anyone vidictively, an appropriate telling off would have put his tail between his legs and would have stopped him any further. Obviously he is a bit embarassed about all this now, but it would be a bit pathetic if his season ticket was to be ripped up because of one stupid part on his behalf which he is sorry for.

After saying this though I do beleive the Red Badge lot have to think before they act bottle randomly thrown in the air or bottle thrown at some one which is the worse crime. Heavens forbid if a mexican wave ever happends in the stadium, people will get thrown out left right and centre.

Though if they claim they are throwing him out due to abusive language, obviously than these guys are better suited at a rugby game that a football game.

If he threw a bottle, regardless of the intent, he deserves to be ejected - end of story.

We have made it pretty clear that there is zero tolerance on this so I have no sympathy.

If may have only been the first or second game for some of the people commenting here, so they may not understand the history behind the CCM game.

Ultimately, if he has thrown a bottle, then YF is 100% behind them being ejected.

The CCM game was completely a disgrace and the people concerned should be ashamed of themselves, saying that at least no coins were thrown. But where do you draw the line, if i was to throw a bottle to my mate two rows back does that mean I should be ejected. Throwing an empty bottle in the air after being encouraged to skull it down doesn't seem as extreme as throwing a full bottle at a fellow supporter or opposition player.

It is interesting that the YF area is more 'policed' than other areas, perhaps they think more trouble is to happen there than else well.

The wannabee streaker was behind me & said he would streak across the pitch if I gave him my yellow fever top - AS IF.  Anyway don't streakers normally strip nearer to the pitch rather than half way up and hope security doesn't notice their white y-fronts as they tiptoe past!!!!!

We did have a scuffle in front of us too as we were surrounded by young lads as our usual fever fans were outta town and these lads had clearly not been before and threw beer when we scored which regular fans did not take kindly too - fair enough but there was no need to punch the living daylights out of him, that was the only time I was relieved to see the security!!

Perhaps because of the higer percentage of intoxicated young persons who really have no skills in the art of drinking. Power drinking is not cool. Before, during or after a game. You don't have to get pissed to enjoy the fever zone.
