Hey guys,

Wellington Airport has invited us to farewell the team before they depart for the two away games in Melbourne.

Any chance of carpooling from the CBD to the airport Dave?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

So it's Wednesday and nothing on Nix Twitter (possibly cause of sacked tweeter) or their facebook page about this.  Will they be surprised when there is no one there to farewell them.  Why don't they give people ample warning about these events???

The social media person isn't usually a Phoenix staff member, they just did the game day tweets because all the other staff were busy. It's up to Phoenix staff to post stuff during the week.

which they don't do a lot of.  Still yet to see basic stuff from them. Thanking the fans for coming out to support them, telling them when the next game is, where to buy tickets or what sky channel to watch the games on, or even when the team makes appearances in public or at event. Would like to see a bit more interaction with the community.

That statement also applies I think to Interaction in General... maybe it is my perception but level of public appearances by the players seems to have dropped off in the last couple of years

I catch up with the guys every week after the home games at the Grand. But I guess drinking with them is not really public appearances.

Moaning about a lack of public appearances in a thread about a public appearance? Cool...

It was a general comment that public appearances seem to have dropped off from previous years, not a moan or a bitch, just an observation

I think the complaint is that its a fever member (in this case, me) and not the club promoting the event.

Guessing it would be more run by Wellington Airport (due to its location), who are not (As far as I am aware) Wellington Phoenix sponsors.
So perhaps its not up to them to do it. There were WIAL staff at the bottom of the stairs last week handing out flyers though.

Yes this.  I wouldn't have believed it was official if it wasn't for the snazzy flyer.

I thought this too, but isn't it in their best interest to promote the team wherever possible?  As I've said numerous times Twitter and facebook are free so why not use it more to alert fans to these events.  It's no good telling people an hour before the event starts.  Maybe they have contacted schools near to the airport about it, who knows but their 46k facebook and 4.5k twitter fans are none the wiser.

This from the Nix Facebook page as posted to WIAL.

"Farewell the Phoenix tomorrow as they leave to take on the Aussies! They will be at the airport outside Mojo Coffee cafe between 12:45pm and 1:45pm to meet fans.  The first 25 fans who are wearing Phoenix colours will get free parking! Ticket give-aways and more so see you there!
Wellington Airport is a proud sponsor of the Wellington Phoenix FC!"

Good to have WIAL on board sponsoring the nix.
