Yellow Fever as part of #FeverDreams and LFC Wellington Supporters Group will be running a food bank drive for Wellington City Mission.

We have a home game on the 19th December against Sydney FC which would be a perfect time of the year to help those less fortunate. You can drop off your donations at Four Kings, Bethel Woods, Backbencher from Monday 14th December or at the stadium on game day. Supporters will be on the concourse before you go in to the game taking collections.

Please donate and let others know.

Great idea! Could be keen to help out on the 19th, but will need to check that on the home-front first.

Wellington City Xmas appeal

We are now going to do a big foodbank appeal in December for the Wgtn City Mission leading up to Christmas, a time when they really need help from their community. This time though, we’re going one better!

In December, in association with the LFC Wellington, Four Kings Wellington, The Wellington Phoenix, Westpac Stadium (TBC), Bethel Woods and the Backbencher, we are planning a huge foodbank appeal, which we will then donate the proceeds of to the Wellington City Mission on the Monday after the Phoenix game on the December 19th.

The idea is that we will set up collection bins at the Stadium (TBC) and at the three pubs before and after the game, and possibly for the week leading up to the game as well. We are sorting the finer details with the the LFC team and the other associated parties and will pass on the info when it’s all sorted.

Members of the LFC Wellington Committee and the Yellow Fever are also going to volunteer at The City Mission on the Monday 21st December to help them put Christmas packages together.

As for now, we really need your help to spread this information far and wide. It’s a great chance to show our community that we are not just massive fans of the Nix, but a group that cares about our community.

If you can help out on the day and/or on the 21st making the packages, please let me know at matt at yellowfever dot co dot nz

Can you post what sort of items you would like us to bring and locations of bins when all that is sorted?

Yes, sorry meant to post these links too, will confirm places when sorted but the pubs are on board and will have collections before people go into the ground.

From the links above: At the moment, we are very short of the following items: Spreads (ie. Peanut Butter) Tinned fish/meat And running low on: Muesli bars/raisins/fruit pots (ie. things for school lunches) Instant noodles Cereals Tinned fruit Tinned vegetables Tinned soup

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Grand idea, hopefully the first pub will be a collection point (looks like that is already being worked on now)

Or else let's make the train station New World the unofficial final stop before the stadium. I would love to see the puzzled looks on the faces of staff and shoppers as a drunken yellow army swoops in on the non-perishable goods, stocking up large.

The three pubs that Yellow fever work with regularly are:

  1. Four Kings
  2. The Backbencher
  3. Bethel Woods

And all three of them are supporting this initiative, and all three will have collection bins.

Note: Westpac Stadium will ALSO have collection bins.

So, IF you want to donate on match day, either before, during or after 12 pubs, there will be collection bins for you at those 3 pubs AND at the stadium too if you are not doing 12 pubs.

In addition to that we are working on having the bins for the week leading up to the match, so that anyone who finds the idea of carry a tin of soup or a muesli bar on match day inconvenient can donate (if they want to and are able to) before match day.

Just bumping now that it is pretty much organised and we have a poster designed. Trying to push advertising it so people bring donations and if you can help either on the day or on the Monday with packing the food for the donations we receive. Please let me know at @yakcall or matt at yellowfever dot co dot nz.

So the news is getting out there. Wellington City Mission, Westpac and the Nix are all pushing it through Facebook and Twitter.

We will have a story in the Dom Post on game day and have got Piney on radio sport and hopefully Devlin as well to mention it.

Today I got along to the Nix training to have the photo for the paper done and got this shot as well.

Here is hoping for a nice day and a lot of donations!

So the food drive was a massive success, thank you to everyone who donated or helped out. The Wellington City Mission are really happy with the result. We also had collection bins and they think we raised in that hour before kick off, what they can do in a day with their Star Car.

This car is full right through to the front seats.

Boxes I had to take which I will dropped off to City Mission on Monday when we volunteer and help make up food parcels for them.

Also this was a cool story to come out from last night.

We also had Shane come out from Westpac to donate to the cause.

The generousity of people on the concourse blew me away!

As well as the two cars FULL of food donations, the buckets were both half full, and not just of coins either, $5, $10, $20 and even a $50 note! I eagerly await the final total but I think it will be well over $1,000 in cash too.

It was HUGE success as Matt says. Thank you everyone who contributed, both on the concourse and at the Four Kings, Back bencher and BethelWoods.

So along with all the food we raised $1119.30 in cash for the City Mission, they are so thankful for the support.

All the people who volunteered to help sort the food.

A friend of mine is selling this signed and framed Phoenix Shirt. It's for a good cause- all proceeds go to Skylight, a national not for profit trust that enables children, young people, their family/whanau and friends to navigate through times of trauma, loss and grief.
