Can’t believe people are not more steamed up about the Oli Sail thing.

A player has lined up our keeper and jumped at him studs up and got him and no ball in sight.  That’s take 4 or 5 games off.

There’s no way that pushing him over is equivalent. There’s no way that’s each have a yellow.

Then someone’s ripped Oil’s shirt. That’s another week(s) off.

As we said the ref was consistent, but deliberately leaving stud marks in a keeper’s hand has to be at least equivalent to Sasse’s slipping and getting 3 weeks off.

I’m kinda for hiring a coach whose sole job is punching the guy in the tunnel next time we play.  Seems fairer than saying Sail should just expect studs in the hand because he’s punting the ball up field. Not a rational response, but to me that’s way over the line and if it happens to any other A league goalie the commentators are all over it.

Central Coast should be ashamed. But clearly they’re not and we’ve left Oli copping it several times over.

That’s before you even look at the aftermath.

But come on- there’s no replay available that I’ve seen but I’ve read the article and listened to the pod that said that this guy was allowed to go studs into Oli, then his team mob Oli. The only punishment is yellows to both players. That’s absolutely ridiculous. If they’ve seen it it has to be a red. If they haven’t seen it what are they giving the card for?

It just seems absolutely outrageous.

There was no further video evidence as far as I know to suggest it should have been a red card.. Ultimtely, these kind of challenges do happen on the football field more often than not, it’s a physical sport with a lot of tension and stakes.. hiring a coach to punch someone In the tunnel seems rather extreme don’t you think?

I’m exaggerating at the futility of getting any justice for this. Jumping studs into a player is a red. I haven’t seen anyone leaving a stud imprint in a player above the waist in the A league not red carded so I’d disagree that ‘these things happen in football.’

As well it seems clear there is video, but they’re not showing it to us and the yellow by the ref means it can’t be looked at.

Hmm.

I guess I was imagining he’d gone flying in which he hadn’t. That’s a clear point of difference and danger to the Sasse sending off- the momentum behind it.

On the side it is clear it is a petty, premeditated kick on Oli, which the whole CC bench then get up to defend. Shame on them.

Martinb, I think, is pointing out that a not too far equivalent is a 'Nix player or coaching staff delivering an unprovoked punch in the tunnel, unseen by cameras or the referee. Brawl results after the opposition reaction. Result a yellow card each.

It's an unjust outcome. And a pretty vile act is not adequately addressed.

If Ollie had gone down clutching his hand in acute pain and screaming, then the result is more likely a red on the opposition.  Pretty hard to react that cynically, but it might have got a fairer result.

Meh, move on. Except the team and coach need to manage this, so that refs don't see us as the bad guys and come in with cognitive bias against us because of that.

I like that we're standing up for ourselves and I've posted before about the team missing the hard man like the Sigmonster or Vinnie. Rufer back maybe adds a bit of that. But it pays to stand up for yourself (and, if need be, deliver retribution) smart.

I remember rugby stories about the punch never being returned but the puncher being told at every opportunity that it was coming, and being totally thrown off his game.

How do you some of you lot judge distances with only one eye ?
The opposition striker just tried to block sails kick. He was too close and it’s a yellow card offence nothing more.
Sail rugby tackled him in retaliation, but not in such a way it could be called violent conduct.
Two yellow cards seems right decision to me.

Edit to add: not just you lot..
Previous week vs Brisbane the minute man chasing a ball between the CBs in he last seconds, challenged one who fell over, final sharks went, Roar defender pushes minute man over.
Next to nothing in either incident, but Roar forums all full of how minute man should have been sent off for the ‘violent’ challenge

Eyesight aside, it's a studs up 'block', at best, making contact on the upper body. And there does not appear to be any holding back to avoid contact. We have seen reds for that sort of thing. And we have been told the refs are red carding studs up contact as a matter of policy this year.
I guess you can argue it was reckless rather than violent, despite the apparent instruction to referees, and hence a yellow, but it's on a keeper clearing the ball and after the whistle. It's debatable I think.
But we agree, Ollie could have avoided his yellow.

Edited: to add the apparent instruction to referees and the reckless vs violent comment.

not saying what the Roar player did was ok but Oscar did give him a serve and a bit of a gloat which probably didn't help things.
but on the Kiwi Football Fix they posted a theory that seems to be about right to me, that the Nix are not backing down against the Aussies and they don't like it, same way their cricketers act when someone gives it back.

Oh absolute rubbish.

Look at the video. The ball has gone. The guy jumps up and kicks out at him. Stop making up anti-Nix crap, there’s enough already. CC gave more than as good as they got and it spilled over after they lost imo.

Yeh of course Sail got triggered and should have not reacted that way. But then to see it’s that guy linked overseas too with plaudits when he should have weeks off.

Nobody actually listened to the pod or watched the video before commenting?

None of the pundits giving Triantis a free pass or even benefit of the doubt.

Maybe I wasn’t watching for the gobby players the pod saw, but yeh I thought the calls were mostly consistent which I’d thought was better than the Nix copping 3-4 yellows in the last 20 after having been persistently fouled in the first half.

Sorry dude was kind of replying to ClubOranje-san (with respect sir!) but these thread quote replies are just messy.

I’m wrong about most football things, but Triantis got off, basically and that sharks me.

The worst thing about this is I think the squad was bolstered against this moment from last season. Lewis out, don’t sweat we’ve got Ugarkovic.

Seemed like the pod thought he was doing a great job and was a definite starter? It was just so shocking for me how much the midfield fell to pieces in the second half, imo until Pennington came on.

We simply couldn’t pass or get any tempo into our game. I think part of it was Elliot and Mauragis were gassed, but part of it was Urgarkovic and Rufer were pants. They could not replace Lewis at all. That’s what annoys me, we had this last season with injuries, we covered and the guys who covered us were worse than last season’s ringers in Sutton or  Sandoval.

However, that combined with a weak impact for Old made me wonder if there was some instructions Popovic was giving that was shutting us down. Because we were shocking in how our game came to a shuddering halt.

Oh- and Laws is absolutely looking for that ball. He’s calling for it and seeing it in his head for 3-4 minutes before he executes it to perfection.

great chat team,
agree with Frosty - Pennington was average, not sure about worst but he definatley lost the ball in crucial areas a number of times, he was probably lucky h got fouled when he did or we concede another goal from his poor control.

IIRC Ball took a pretty dreadful penalty for us in his first game, against the Brisbane Strikers in the FFA cup, which was saved and meant we didn't win in extra time.
Then, I think the game ended 2-2 and went to penalties, Ball missed again and Brisbane went through.

After that game pretty much everyone was calling him a dud and wanted us to get rid of him.

I don't think he's taken a penalty since.

Gotta say I always love the Dome episodes. Really appreciate how up front he is, he could have skirted the Uffie issues but gave a really straightforward assessment of the situation. Gives me a lot of comfort that if Uffie does go (which it looks like he will), the club will keep moving in a good direction
