To touch on the Millie Clegg chat and why she's leaving - could've sworn I'd read she wanted guarantees about what position she was going to play (striker) and Temple wasn't prepared to do that (I expect because we're after an import). Guess an equally weak team like WSW might be able to provide that?

Be ironic if WSW go ahead and also sign Kelli Brown. (she is playing in Sydney now banging in goals at NPL level and alot of her team mates play for WSW in A league season. So not an unreasonable possibility). Would be great for us if Brown and Clegg combined at this level to form a front two. Be ironic having an Aus team help develop a NZ striker partnership.....

Any chance of an interview with Eugene "Who's your" Dadi?? I know he follows Nix results etc. He passed a comment a year or so ago when I mentioned "That Goal" on Youtube I think from memory.

Cheers for the Pod.

Roar II play in QLD NPL 1.
4 of the 5 NSW reserve ALM teams played in NSW NPL 1 this season. Bulls Academy (last) will be relegated.
In Victoria WU II & Melb City II play in VIC NPL 2. VUC II were 2nd in NPL 3 and will be promoted next year.
Adelaide II play in SA NPL 1
Glory II play in WA NPL 1

So 7 of 11 Aussie reserve ALM teams were in their top state NPL league this season.

I must be a year out of date because in 2022 only Sydney had a reserve side in the NSW NPL league.

They expanded the NSW NPL to 16 teams this season, with CCM & WSW reserve teams among the new teams. Both Sydney II & Macarthur Bulls Academy were there in 2022.

I guess they will lose some clubs in 2024 to the new NST if it kicks off.

Love it when Dome gets on the pod, great to hear his point of view.

Also suprised by the lack of support from the APL, we are a 1/12th shareholder of the organisation so why are we getting shafted?

Rob Morrison raises a good point. What's the succession plan for the Feverites as they all become middle aged dads & mums, with less drinking & drumming ability.

My favourite pod every year is the Domey one.
Nice yarns about the reaction of parent's of Issac Hughes & Macey Fraser when they signed their first pro deals.

Hopefully the kids go well this year. As Dome notes the club get greater income from solidarity payments when an Academy kid is later onsold to a Europen club as opposed to say onselling a Tim Payne (if that happened). Still think they should look at likes of JHS, Francis de Vries etc - but seems they are set on the Academy kid only path, and earning as much transfer fee income as possible down the track.

Do the YF have a succession plan?? Or does it die when y'all get too old to dance and stand for 90 mins?

Rob makes a point, as a lot of those "Singles" now become parents and the associated costs of coming to games now has changed since way back in 2007 onwards. I have seen the original YF organisers pass the baton on down to a younger generation whom now will be in the same boat. I am sure it will all work out in the end, but now they too will understand the gripes about pricings at the stadium etc as they start paying for others to also attend games - Partners and kids  - hopefully. the more fans the better.

Hush your mouth. LOL Love going to games pretending im still middle aged and not the senior i have become. Never to old or fat to get your shirt off at 80 mins. Might do things a lot slower but the mind is always willing.

The Martinborough derby. Foley has openly said he's is only interested now in new ventures where he has complete control. My word my kidney, the Auckland team will be a success, and average crowds close to 10,000. And agree with Elena it's fine to support 2 NZ teams in the ALM, except when they play each other. I mean they are playing Aussies every other week.

Sorry cant agree at all nothing will convince me to cheer for the Auckland franchise. Will be interesting to see if your 10k prediction stacks up over time and if things arnt going well. Even Rugby struggles to get crowds to games, yep initially have no doubt the numbers may be there but its sustaining it that becomes the issue.

It's actually a real good thing if is plenty of died in the wool Wellingtonians like Ballane, and those on the pod who 'hate' all things Auckland. You need those folks to build a real rivalry with a bit of an edge.

But if like me you are just a NZ football fan with no real real strong ties to one over the other (I've lived in both, plus plenty of other towns/cities in NZ) - you may toss a coin but support both against all the Aus clubs. Of course if Auckland sign a polarising pantomine villian NZ football figure like say a Danny Hay that could change the dynamic for some.

I imagine over the next 12 months, there will for sure be some comment(s) or signing(s) out of Auckland that will raise the ire of Nix fans. Will be fun to watch. A real lasting rivalry, with travelling fans etc at last.

You just know on that drunken night in Martinborough, Rob not only dared Bill Foley to buy a rival club but also dared him to use the Knights name. Bill Foley, with pure American arrogance, said "sure". Then Bill looked up the NZ Knights wiki. Rob could be heard laughing from miles around the rest of that night.

I would happily have AKL as my 'second team' and definitely support them. I live in Ch-Ch and make one, sometimes two trips to WLG each season to support the Nix, I can't see me doing the same for the AKL team, but would support them.

On another note, I can't agree with Helena's take on the WahiNix v the Warriors analogy I'm afraid. There is dormant league support in Auckland and across NZ that was waiting for this season to happen, I don't think the same potential fanbase (even on a scaled basis) is there for the Nix Women. Happy to be proven wrong though for sure, and a move away from Porirua is deemed necessary.

I'm more excited to watch the women play this season than the men, based on their signings. And it's great to local North Canterbury juniors Macey Fraser and Rebecca Lake in the squad too which adds to the interest.

North Canterbury quite a hotbed currently for Women's football. Gabi Rennie also from Rangiora. I spent the first 14 years of my life just up the road in Amberley, and growing up it was rugby, rugby, cricket & rugby. Our 60 yr old primary school headmaster (he coached the North Canterbury senior rugby team) in 1982 wouldn't let us play football (soccer) on the back of the Spain WC qualification craziness at the time. We were all dragged back to play rugby.

Really hope the Nix ALW team take a game to ChCh this season or next. Big big Cantab influence on the side.

The Auckland club ownership will be of a level that we have never seen in NZ before. The owner is no slug in business and professional sport ownership. You can forget about Danny Hay being coach, he is simply not good enough for the owner and we can expect some serious money being spent on this club ( within AL limits of course).

Sorry, I will post this in the proper thread now.

It’ll be interesting the balance of local v imported via the club chain talent.

How many local coaches better than Hay are there? Do they have the tickets?

I don’t- I’m asking if there are any at all who fit the criteria. If the answer is zero, well, we’ll definitely be seeing an international coach.

Still struggling with your views. I appreciate your efforts.
No mention though of the fact that in our last away match against WSW we were humiliated. I'm pretty sure that you guys would have approved much more of that first 11 than this.

Our defending was exceptional. We nearly nicked it.

I think that given a youthful team, we'll improve more than other teams as the season goes. This was mentioned by you guys, roughly.

Old for Pennington. Chiefy won't do that because even though Old is a better dribbler and offers more going forward. You'll only get 9km out of Old where Pennington gives you 13km. That means Pennington is giving a lot in defence as well as something going forward.

You didn't mention Rufer at all really. He had an amazing match. 17 Duels won and 9 interceptions. I've never seen him do better than mid single digits on Duels won, even less on interceptions.

We'll get 3 points on Saturday. No problem.

I'm giving you my take on the match against Perth.
For me given a pretty balanced passing accuracy within the whole team, importance for defenders and midfielders goes to winning the ball. So:
Including All Duels (offensive/Defensive/Aerial/Interceptions/clearances). I included clearances to be fair on Wootton (he makes a lot of clearances):

Pennington/Wootton 20  (Pennington 10 interceptions)
Kelly Heald                 18
Payne                          17
Surman                        16
Rufer                            13
Kraev                            11
Al Taay                         10
Kosta/Zawada               9
Old                                 4 (1 interception)
Others                            0

I understand that some players were subbed and Old was a sub.
Pennington ran the most 13.2 km
Everyone else who played the full match ran 9-11km

I attach importance to the distance ran by midfielders because it gives a good indication of tracking back. A particular weak area in the 4 years that I've watched the Nix.

I took the Stats from Wyscout.

Anyway we'll get another 3 points next Saturday. No Problem.
