Great show guys, thanks for the podcast that kept me going while I was painting our kitchen on the weekend. One comment from the Pedantic corner: in Polish, "W" is always a hard "V" sound. So Oskar Zawada's last name is pronounced "Zavhada", not "Zauada". I am sure he will get this a lot this season, as in "A great header from "Zauada" and Phoenix are now two nil up!"
The pod chat the departure of Gemma Lewis, speculation on who Natalie Lawrence will choose to be her assistant, the prospect of more kiwis signing on for season two, and All Whites call up for five Phoenix players.
Really glad to hear you all back in my ears. Great hosts, great listen.
Suggestion (obviously totally up to you if you take it or not. You're obviously doing heaps of work already) but it may be worth popping a short message in the old podcast feed saying there is new show called Fever FM and to subscribe to that. May grab any listeners who aren't in the forums but did sub before.
Thanks for the pod! Maybe he's an easy punchline, but are we bagging Hudson too much? Isn't is possible that he's improved since he was the All Whites manager?

Assistant coach with USMNT. US Soccer have a tonne of cash, plus had a huge amount riding on their qualifying campaign for Qatar, after the shock of missing out in 2018.
They wouldn't employ anyone they didn't rate well.
The pointy shoed one, strikes me with hindsight as a guy well organised, and really good on the analysis stuff on the opposition etc. That's why the AWs playing group universally praised him when he left, after what was obviously a shambolic mess with Ricki's prior 2013 Mexico playoff setup.
In Herbert's defence he was stretched doing 2 jobs (Nix coach as well), plus sounds like Hudson got more support/cash from NZF leading up to the Peru playoffs.
So all in all Huddo could well be the goods as an assistant, providing all the support background analysis stuff. Not so great as the main man. He might have been able to pull the wool over the eyes of that buffon Martin back in 2014, but is no way Gregg Berhalter would be taking him alongside, to Qatar if didn't add value to USNMT setup.
And yeah maybe just maybe, he's a bit more likeable with less powerpoint fluff, designer stubble & all round BS. He was a pretty young coach when in NZ, but he did leave the team in a better place, compared to what he inherited.
I haven't listened to a football poddy regularly since the days of Phoenix City with Newsy, Boxy and Smithy.... But I've now subscribed and will be tuning in!

I'm pleased to see the retcon of In The Zone is now complete. Newsy will not be so happy.
Thanks again - that was really good, although you guys didn't pick any of the questions suggested to you via twitter?
"Which player is going to have a breakout season?" was interesting. Going by his other answers about wanting competition in the team Uffie might have said "all the players need to compete, and I don't want to imply that anyone is guaranteed of a start by naming them here" Certainly a strange answer to give Lewis - a player who is already part of the starting lineup.... I got the feeling it was an off-the-cuff answer that he might not have given on another day?

I mean you can say that you expect someone to have a 'breakout' season without saying that they're definitely going to be starting. After all predicting a breakout season is just that - a prediction. In no way was he saying that he will definitely be starting but more so that he has more improvement to come.
I was surprised Uffie mentioned Lewis though since I was thinking him too and I generally have shark opinions. I started last season thinking Lewis was okay at that point, an average A-League midfielder - nothing special. By the end of last season and watching him in internationals I keep thinking how much skill he has. To me he is now reminiscent of Mooy before he became too good for the A-League and left - you can see Lewis has that skill, movement and ball control as soon as he receives the ball. So yes I totally agree with Uffie, I think he has a lot to give and there is a lot of potential there.

Huh? We asked about Rufer's injury, Payne's position, and Reid.
