Fever Friday - 12.30pm Friday @ Midland Park

You may have read about this in the Fever Friday thread, but it's grown big enough to deserve it's own place now.

Every Friday before a Phoenix home game this season, some of the Fever have been going out in the Wellington CBD to drum up some support for the Phoenix among the Wellington public. The idea behind it is to let people know that there is a matchat the Stadium over the weekend, and hopefully convince them to attend the match. Our numbers have been growing every week, but we want to make this as big as possible so are looking for more people to join us for the fun!

Our next Fever Friday will take place just before Christmas, for the game against Central Coast.

  • Where: Midland Park
  • When: 12.30pm Friday 21st December
  • Wear: Anything yellow

For the past few Fever Fridays, we have walked to various places in the city, carrying the various massive flags that you will have seen in the Fever Zone on matchdays. Last week we walked around the waterfront, and we will probably be doing something very similar again this week.

There is a mailing list that you can subscribe to (if you haven't already), and by doing so you will receive an email a couple of days before each Fever Friday, containing details of the plan for that week. This weeks one will go out later today, so make sure you sign up at http://eepurl.com/pigen so you don't miss out on any information!

How do we tell the public about the game? Do we yell it out constantly, or just expect them to know it means theres a game this week?

People i know who have seen the flags thought it may have something to do with the nix, but werent 100% sure.

Also are we promoting the fever zone or just Phoenix games in general? Because it would make sense to try and get some club representation as well with either handouts of Nixie or something..?

We have asked the Phoenix for a bunch of flyers about the match this week, as we realised that one of the main problems we were having was actually getting the message across. The idea this week is to be able to give the flyers to the majority of people we walk past, as that will be far more effective than them just looking at the flags, which has happened in previous weeks.

Awesome. Flyers are key. Didnt realise you guys have been hooking up with Nixie but thats a good thing too.

On another note. Why does Nixie have that plonker as his trainer??? He doesnt exactly attract people to the nix and is pretty embarrassing at times. Whenever I see him, I think of the Rancour trainer from Jedi who comes out and cries after luke crushes him under the door.
Seriously, why dont they have one or two of those TAB girls holding his hand and looking after him the whole time??  Surely girls are the way forward?

Nick Tansley is a major dweeb.  Remember he was Polly and Grant from ZMFM's side kick.  Uncle Gareth or TAB Girls would be better to look after Nixie.

He's good with the kids though, I'm not sure that the TAB girls would be the same.

They dont have to be the TAB girls, Im just saying it makes no sense having this guy doing it. He's just an embarrasment.

You reckon they should put Nick in the suit instead?

That would be why we don't know anything about why he left, because they want to keep Nixie's identity secret! Woah.

Quick reminder that this is happening TODAY at 12.30pm. It's a cracker of a day out there, so see you all at Midland Park!

Pat you're doing a mint job of organising this...it keeps growing by a few people each week.

If we're going to get a decent crowd on Sunday we need everyone to chip in! So get down, grab a flag, have a laff for half an hour, and do a good deed!

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Big thanks to everyone who showed up! We had a few more people than last week, and gave out around 500 flyers to the Wellington public.

Well done.  I got there a bit late but didn't see anyone :(

But don't worry I don't need a flyer and I'll be there on Sunday

It's looking like the best way to do this is to choose a bunch of intersections close to each other, and put two people on the corners. One person to hold a flag, and another to hand out flyers to people walking by. If anyone has suggestions of where good places to do this would be, flick them in an email to fridays@yellowfever.co.nz .

It's interesting that fans are doing a better job at marketing games than the club. Good work!

Sounds like we might see a change in the marketing area come January,

Personnel or approach?

It was only post-Christmas last year that the marketing visibly improved.

Which is strange, because I'd have thought that the closer the season is to coming to a close, the less you actually need to market the games.

My impression last year was that it took Welnix half a season to figure out that simply buying a football club and expecting people to turn up out of gratitude wasn't going to work.

God knows what the excuse is for the limp marketing effort so far this season.

We are thinking of going hard this week, by doing promo work in the morning (before work), and at lunchtime. Watch your inboxes and this thread tomorrow for more details.
