Maybe a mayoral candidate would be willing to advocate bowling over the old people's home to rebuild Athletic Park? :-)

I noticed the group of young lads at the front would only stick to their own chants, even if the rest of the zone had joined into another one.

I think you mean the group with that Tawa guy with the Retro Beckham mohawk.

I had my family on the  fringe of Zone and we all shouted as loud as anyone. My daughter loves the phoenix. remember some of young ones will be the futures biggest fans!!!
Those with Families know what they are getting into so its a bit rich having you say  warzycha that we shouldnt be there!Mate just cause me daughter ain't largered up doesn't mean she ain't going to yell and cheer just as much as anyone else!

Do the Phoenix only score in front of the Fever Zone?
maybe we should move at half time...

now what a sight that would be! "Retro Ricki's Armys on the move"
I can imagine the drunkin Chaos as thousands of people try and stagger to the other end

Could always try what the Wanui league fans used to do and just walk straight down the ground to the other end.

interesting thought - what's the stats on Phoenix goals being scored at the tunnel end of the ground?

I wouldn't mind going near the goal we were attacking and there's enough room in the stadium to relocate at half-time ...

.. and as said after the last home game, the chants started at the back of the stadium are more likely to get picked up because of the stadium acoustics - FACT.

Including pre-season games, Phoenix have scored all their goals but one (Smeltz v. Sydney for 3-0 in the Pre-season Cup) in front of the Fever zone.

Mate, we've probably got the best ground in the league for echoing songs and chants - the melbourne fans watching the game in Oz reckon we're the loudest fans in the league.

Our bays go waaayy back with a roof cover - we have a great stadium for getting the noise out there.

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

mm think I might go up the other end for the first half of next game that would give quite a different perspective on the whole shebang and I FIND OUT HOW LOUD WE REALLY ARE AND WATCH ALLTHE PHOENIX FIRST HALF GOALS UP CLOSE, COZ I RECKON THEY ABOUT TO HIT A FIRST HALF GOAL OR EVEN TWO, WILL BE INTERESTING CELEBRATING ON MY OWN, MIGHT EVEN TAKE  MY SHIRT OFF  AND LEAVE UP MY UMBRELLA UP ALL GAME.

Well my throat feels like I've gargled with radioactive zombie piss today so I reckon I made some noise. I also "spilt" some beer when when scored, (sorry it manly got over people I know its an old punk thing I guess),

It's also an old rugby-head thing (and I don't mean that in a good way) as those who are old enough to have been Millard Stand regulars can attest. Only it wasn't always only beer in the cup...

I think some people on this forum are a little hard on the fans.  I've seen a lot of football around the world and up and down the EPL.  I don't know many sets of fans that would be giving it out large when their team has just let two goals in.  Get real - it's all about emotions and it's usually something that happens ON the pitch that sparks them off again.  Not some slightly deranged lunatic with a megaphone at the front, or as in the case of what I had to put up with last night, a prat with a whistle and a fog horn who banged on all night but couldn't even get the rhythm right (those who sat in aisle 23 will know who I'm talking about!).

Fan culture takes time to build as well.  You can't manufacture it any more than you can manufacture atmosphere.  It has to come from the heart.  That's way too deep now.

I'll get my coat...

This makes a lot of sense - it's early days...

I think Warzycha's point about families is maybe less about "families" per se and more about non-participation - there do seem to be a large number of fans that look stunned to be in the FZ and not too comfortable with it - no doubt they learn quickly to go to the middle.

I get a bit pissed off with "Waldorf and Stadler" types who moan about YF not being as good as  (insert English club here)  - I had  some Gooners near me trying to start  anti-Tottenham chants  FFS. Yeah, very funny - and completely uninspiring.

On the other hand thumbs up to the big bloke in the Liverpool shirt who really turned the quiet times around with some grunty chanting about mid-way up the FZ - but mate, leave the 'pool shirt at home (and the Gunners and Celtic and...) I leave my Barca shirt there. We may have other clubs to love but on match day the 'nix deserve ALL the support - otherwise it looks like we'd really rather be somewhere else...

Yeah the guy in the Liverpool shirt was about 6 rows below me and did a bl**dy marvelous job getting chants started. I got the impression that he'd had plenty of previous experience.

One of the problems that I've been having is that I'm about half way between the mob down the bottom who start alot of chants and the mob at the back. So alot of the time you've got 2 chants going at once and it's too hard to work out which is the dominant chant so which to join in on. Also, a few occassions where both groups were chanting the same chant but slightly out of time.

Also noticed a few chants being started well outside the FZ. Just shows things are catching on nicely.

Bloody great time in the FZ this week again but the next time one of those clowns at the front throws lager every where I'm sure they're going to snotted.  Some rather grumpy old men behind them who are almost ready to do so.  Throwing beer around hmmmmm not the smartest plus a complete waste of rubbish beer.

Go on you Nix

We were in the middle too - FZ row G or H I think we were - and I agree it's hard to work out which group to chant with.  Obviously it's easier to hear the group behind you, but they seemed to be out of time with the front group, and when we tried to start chants (was with a group of loud poms) seemed like we were surrounded by a bunch of deaf mutes as no one joined in.  But nevermind - once again had a fantastic time and am sure people will eventually join in once they're familiar with the chants.

Totally agree. I don't wear my Brighton or England tops - I wear my Phoenix shirt. I could understand wearing your club of origin shirts for temporary visits by clubs you don't identify with. Wearing those is like saying the Nix are a flash in the pan and you're here as a neutral.

I tried to give a mate of mine in Carlisle shirt some stick by asking why he was sporting Sydney colours.

I was also disappoinited to see QPR or Reading shirts (didn't look close enough to see which) and Arsenal tops at the Bencher. Support the Phoenix FFS.

I don't think wearing other club colors in the beginning is too much of a problem. there were 12k people at the game - the supply of phoenix shirts available to retailers was around 500 until October and retro Ricki's have sold about 1000, +50 backbencher YF tops, and assorted other home made phoenix gear. At least by wearing a club top of some description you are showing you are a football supporter. If you are at the game then it goes without saying you also support the phoenix. given enough time, the entire YF zone will be a sea of yellow and black, but until the supply of phoenix gear meets the demand, i don't see why people cant wear their Liverpool or Chelsea tops. It creates plenty of banter at the pub, and you can find other like minded people to celebrate/commiserate with about your teams performance on the weekend.

Haha that would be so awesome but looking at the state of some of them I'm not sure they would all make it to the other end before the game was completed. Have to say though I think people should chill out a wee bit. Was sitting in Aisle 25 on Saturday night with my wife and son, fantastic experience. If some chants didn't work out it didn't really matter and we joined in as much as we could as did others around us. Spoke to the few Adelaide guys the next morning (staying at same Hotel) that were sitting up behind Mossy in the 2nd half and they were amazed at the sound and the volume from the Fever Zone. They come from a city of 1 million people and can't get that kind of support so congrats to the Fever - you are the talk of the nation at the moment (well on Radio Sport this morning anyway). There were also a group of fans above us to our right who got the crowd going as well. The hardouts in the Fever Zone need to realise they don't own the game - they add to it and our experience was awesome. Planning on coming back asap, just gotta find another lazy $2K first lol. Actually the cost of going to the game surprised me as well - $38 for the three of us, thank you Terry Siripisos, keep up the great work 'cos where definitely coming back.

What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?

I was in 23,  the guy with the whistle was having a shocker!!  I was also with my family and I think if your kids are young like mine (10 and 12) sitting on the fringes of the feverzone is great!! We are all decked out in YF shirts and we all yelled up a storm for the Nix and we feel like we are helping the Fever spread.  If it starts getting too mental in Aisle 23 (which I hope it does) we will probably move to 24 and start yelling our asses off there.

Go the Nix!!

I agree that the Fever Zone is an impressive sight, but I much prefer the prawn sandwich zone (aka Aisle 28).  No chants, no beer showers, no bad language, seated on halfway.  Just wish they served prawn sandwiches and a decent coffee.  Has anyone had worse coffee than at the stadium?

A couple of issues;

1- I was near the back with the group who was starting chants. Its very hard to hear the chants and timing of the people at the front as they are obviously facing the other way. But we were starting our own chants in the hope the people in the front would join in as they can hear us. The problem is there is a group in the middle (between our group and they big group at the front) who don't join in chants and some even sit down, if these people got into it the chants wouldn't be so out of time.

2- People really need to not get so angry if they get beer spilt on them.

ya, if i got beer spilt on me after an adelaide goal i'd be outraged but if it comes after a goal by the 'nix then hey, let it rain!!!

Nah - more like "Stand up if you hate Tottenham" and the like...groan...

Most of the time they just grizzled like old women and didn't join in the 'nix chants - got on my tits after a while...

I thought i posted about this earlier (it must not have worked)...

The best way to get the guys up the back doing the same chants is for some of the regulars to get up there and show them how it's done. :)
