We can Guarantee 4th Spot if...

  1. Perth lose to either Sydney or Brisbane and we win both our fixtures (GCU and CCM)
  2. Perth lose one and draw one from their remaining two matches and we win one and draw one of our remaining two matches
  3. Perth lose one and draw their other match and we win one match by 2 goals and lose other one by no more than the same margin that we won the other match by leaving us level on Points and Goal Difference??? (I need to consult the A-League rule book to confirm this one!)
  4. Perth lose both their matches an we win at least one match of our remaining two (4th on Points)
  5. Perth lose both their matches and we draw our remaining two matches (4th on Goals)

Thoughts???

Not here.. I don't want to break down..

There must be more of those technical qualification.. thoughts (?) out there.
It hurts to think about them all though.

There are but when destiny is in your own hands it doesn't pay to think about them.

The Jest have a sh*tehouse Goal Difference so they would be praying for a miracle to finish 4th!

Yeah, but in all but #1 of your 5 scenarios, the Jets will go past the Phoenix if they win both of their remaining two matches.

These permutations were giving me brain sore. I think I've realised why. It's easier to look at the other way round I think - IE: If Wellington get 3 points - we need this etc. Well, that's the way round I find it easier to analyse.

I would do this but it's too late just now.

Well whatever happens there's one thing for sure. We're in the playoffs!!! (at least we will be in about 3 minutes).

Unfortunately Perth should really beat Brisbane next week. Tomorrow night is huge.

Should because Brisbane are sh*thouse? or because it would help us?

Yea, because Brisbane of recent are rubbish. Can't see Brisbane taking points off Brisbane next week, so I thing we really need to be above Perth after tomorrow night.

I agree. But I thought Adelaide were rubbish last week but being the last game and all I felt that they would pull out a good performance for their last game...

maybe...roar will do the same? :hope:

I actually thought Adelaide were reasonable against us last week, apart from being unable to finish. Brisbane are rather depleted at the moment after losing a few key players. Unpredictable league still of course. Still not a game I'd be at all confident in relying on.

How about this permutation - if we win all remaining games we will have won the league.

Maybe the Championship but not the League. The League technically finishes next weekend!

Now, if Perth win against Brisbane at home, we must win against Central Coast in order for us to stay fourth.

If Perth draw or lose against Brisbane, then our result will not matter as we will be ahead of Perth in goal difference, guaranteeing fourth place.

Note that our game on Friday is before Perth and Brisbane on Saturday, so we can't wait to see their result.

If Newcastle win both their games then they will be up there too. They have to win at least one game to compete with us.

But if Newcastle win both their games, then we will need to beat CCM to finish fourth.

If Perth draw, and we lose 1-0... What happens there? Most goals scored? Previous results versus each other?
