Sorry for being pedantic but Napier is 4hrs from Wellington unless you stop for ablutions in Shannon in which case its around 4hrs 10mins

Hence the need to stop in Shannon

It takes 6 hours to get to Napier on a bus when you need to stop in every single town for Adam Ryan to have a piss stop.

Haha, no it's an office on Featherston Street. Past lunchtime for most people now and it's not been moved from where I left it. Can't say whether people have looked at it, but it's at least not been chucked away.

Gone this morning so guess the cleaner threw it out with yesterday's newspaper. Will put another one there.

been talking it up in wanganui, but a lot of people feel they have no buy in for the phoenix.

to change this in the future i feel the nix need to get out into the areas within 2 or 3 hours of wellington, maybe in pre season do some kids coaching clinics or a pre season training camp, if you get the kids interested their parents are more likely to take them to games then they themselves get more interested and so it grows well hopefully anyhow.

Yes, I think this is perhaps an untapped area for the club. They have tried so much to get more Wellingtonians through the gate with limited success [in terms of increasing numbers] and the surrounding environment [perhaps no further than Palmy to start with] could do with a bit of an effort. 2 hours isn't that long of a hike to get to a game, but visitors would be worrying about parking and how to find their way to the stadium more than anything else. So some form of parking package might do the trick but not at the $30 price point.

A year or so back, I went down with a mix of guys from Maycenvale and Port Hill in a Maycenvale bus. We paid our own way and the ticket price ourselves but its got me thinking that they could sell these packages through clubs that would encourage players, supporters and their kids to get together to come down. Only have to do it once a year [club day] and you have a good chance of getting returners either alone or in groups.

I know a lot of people in palmy support the nix there is probably around 300-500ish that travel down for most games but it really is an untapped market. this year I have taken around 10 different people down, I have made 4 of them regulars so not to bad.

More stuff up here would get more people on board, I see no reason why we couldn't have a couple of buses heading down each week.

sounds like the nix could sell a seat on the bus as part of the cost of a (more expensive) ticket.

Lot's of promotion for the AFL outside the front of the train station this morning. Fliers being handed out, the mascot was there and several guys in St Kilda jackets who I assume must have been players. I wouldn't have a clue but someone was having a photo with one of them when I walked past.

Wonder if the Phoenix could do something like this ahead of a home playoff with Nixie and a couple of players etc.

Difference is the AFL is flush with money and willing to throw it at different markets.

Shame the FFA don't do the same to promote football.

Pretty depressing that a team from a sport no one cares about outside a few Australian states markets their team better in Wellington than us, though.

AFL has an interest in doing so, and some Wellington person probably paid for some of it. There is rumour that they want a side in Wellington eventually, so need to drum up support or at least recognition of the code here first - and that's what these games are about.

Small price to pay vs eventually opening up an entire country as a new market in the future.

Though yeah it is sad the FFA don't see NZ the same way, and by contrast to AFL continue to undermine the nix at every opportunity just so they can get a slightly better TV deal from Sky.

Also, it's much easier to spend your marketing budget on a single event than it is to marker across an entire season.

All we need to do is play up the 'AFL is taking over' card and FFA should pour money in ala WSW, right?

7pm Kick Off may have fudgeed up my chances of heading down for this one.

As of friday my annual leave request was not confirmed for Monday 4th which means if it isnt sorted by the time I grt to ky desk Tuesday morming then i'm fudgeed.

Even if I do the round trip and head home to Napier at Full Time The earliest I can hope to get home is probably 1:30am and would stil, have to  work the next day.

Much Grrrrrr!!!

Think what Phoebe from Home and Away would do (not Hannah as she's still trying to walk after the bus crash).

Does your calculated time of 1-30am include stops at Shannon toilets and Dannevegas McDonalds?

I always wondered why we never re-enact the Nativity Scene in Newcastle.

There aren't 3 Wise Men and a Virgin.

It all makes sense now.

That's because AFL hand them thousands to market the sport here, while the FFA hand the Phoenix hundreds to market the game here.
