First Experience at the CakeTin - Brilliant

Friday night was my first Phoenix game. Living in Ch-Ch i made my way up there to watch the game with my wife and met a couple of friends up in WLG.

What an atmosphere, we stood in Aisle 22 and had a great time. The singing was brilliant, and the comments etc magic.

If you are reading this from outside of WLG and haven't been yet - make an effort, you'll have a great time.

We had no hassles where we were with any security guards at all, and everyone around us was friendly.

We'd had quite a few by the end as did many around us but everyone was in great spirits.

At the conclusion of the game i popped into the toilet, and there i was having a piss, and everyone in there were all singing at the top of our lungs, and this continued out of the stadium and down the concourse.

If  i lived in WLG, i would be there every week.

Makes me laugh when i think of the rugby games i have been to when the best the crowds come up with there is 'Hurrrrrrrrrrr-i- caaaanes' or Cannnnnnnnnna - breeeeeee' - Rubbish.

And then we went into town 'The Establishment', and the Phoenix players were in there too, so i drunkenly said hello to a couple and well done etc, and they were friendly back to me and we had a brief chat to Christie, and Elrich and then a bit later a few words to Daniel.

Glad it was a buzz, DR  - well how could it be anything else

btw - it used to be called the "cake tin" or more accurately "cack tin" (and probably still might be by those smaller NPC crowds in the rugby season)

but we call it THE RING OF FIRE

My first experience was the Adelaide/Galaxy double header. Was in aisle 20 for both games and absolutely loved it. If I lived in Wellington, I'd be there for every home game as well. The passion of the supporters is brilliant. I had to wait on the concourse for about half an hour for my mate I was meeting and got a lot of comments from people walking past at my Arsenal shirt (most of them positive)
I was also impressed and how the Phoenix chants were constant throughout the whole game, even when the Nix were losing. I'm sure the players appreciate the support.

I'm only 2 hours away in Palmy so could make the effort more often. Seriously thinking of coming down for the home game against Sydney.

I know but the selfish organisers at our work decided to have our xmas do this Friday night. I'm almost tempted to leave and watch the Nix game on TV and then go back In fact, I probably will. Whats with all the Friday night games too. Doesn't help us out of towners unless we take the day off.

I don't think i was trying to win as DR is clearly one of us, just trying to keep Nix-speak to the forefront, (though i had fun with the "Cacktin" idea)

I'll die a happy man if one day the ever dwindling rugby crowds start to call it the Ring of Fire and say to each other "stuff this, the ring of fire is only a decent buzz when it's football" etc etc

I can't believe that 18k went to the Adelaide game and then 10k of those decided not to go back the following week! (I realise joint ticket were sold and no doubt many out of towners etc etc)

Bump

Flew down from Auckland for the Perf game (i was the guy in the Warriors jersey). Wellington itself is a great little city and pre-match at the Backbencher and at the game was a brilliant atmosphere - loved singing on the concourse after the match - you won't find that at any other sport in NZ.

Definitely be back next year a couple of times.

Good and you and a few extra mates will be just as welcome then. The good thing about the Nix being in the centre of the countryh is it's cheaper for fans all around the country to travel to!
