out wide Iffy produced some amazing crosses, which would have resulted in goals if we'd not had the shortest striker up front by himself. I reckon Ifills best place is as a striker who runs from slightly deeper than the poacher type role. He'd be best IMO as a Centre Forward who was able to run at the defence with wingers either side of him and a striker leading the way.

i just think if hes our sole striker, he gets closed down too fast and doesnt get into enough space. He gets the ball with a man already on him and thats not what hes good at.
However with another striker on the pitch, it does open up more space for him to get the ball in slightly wider positions, and turn to look up and beat his man.

I think we will lose it somewhat and we won't get much at all away.

I've always liked Ifill playing wide as it means he can run at players, but also when he cuts in from that left side he's so dangerous because he can shoot off his right foot.

When he plays more centrally I think it's more predictable, plus back to goal he's not that great.  He's more of a runner with the ball, he doesn't bring others into the game so much.

I think we look stronger at the back for having some depth at fullback, not having to play guys out of position at right back will help in both defence and attack.  But clearly short in the centre.

Chaos off the field normally means chaos on it. A well run back office is essential to on-field success. Two words: Kingz, Knights.

can we get Nicky Ward back?

That would depend on how his team mates feel about playing with someone who walked off claiming he could do better and then when he can't, comes back.

this- think he catches defenders out when he can collect the ball from wider areas, and work his way in and shoot...not a back to goal player, and wasted being a central point for long ball...

Our first 11 looks fine with Leo off the bench. After that thinks look a little on the thin side. Tonsilitis can cover for Lochy but we would be in serious trouble if we lost Durante or Siggy for a while.

To me the key to the season will be our defense. If from game one we can keep it tight at the back then we have the forwards who can score goals. Every thing in defense went pear shape for a while last season and we leaked goals at a furious rate. We need to be tight from match 1.

i would take Rojas back in an instance but I think Pantellis has been a real good pick up. I reckon we will get more out of him for 90 minutes, home and away then we got out of Rojas.

Sign a good striker and our A team could beat anyone in the league. Where we finish on the table will depend on how we cope with injuries and suspensions.

I actually think we would have quite a balanced squad once we sign Bran, Chettleburgh and a gun striker. And reasonably deep- for a side with 20 players.

I think from the small amount of Bran I have seen, he looks to be able to step up to the level we need, and a few months training with the side might turn him into a quality A-League player. Muscat can cover any of the back four if we are despererate, Tsatalios can play on either side I believe. Midifeld we will have Sanchez and Chettleburgh as well as the current 3 which is enough cover, plus Greeny can play CAM if desperate, or we can shuffle to more of a 442. Out wide we are very covered, and up top we have PAv, Iffy, Greeny all there, and hopefully a new gun striker as well. Plus Pantelis could do a job there if we are desperate.

Also I think we do forget that there is space on the roster if we do need something new, and surely one of those melbourne guys are going to want out of the club when they realise they arent even making the bench...

We also overlook the fact that we can bring in injury replacements whenever we see fir, so I wouldnt be suprised to see Clapham, Lovemore etc back in the side at some point even.

Im just hoping Killen can come "guest" sign for us in Jan, and carry us to the playoffs

Here's a little match report from tonight's game at Wakefield Park.

First of all, it was f**king cold and windy, not a great night for good football. A massive crowd there of around 20 people. I think the Nix won 1-0 (Greenacre header) but they must have started early - the first half ended at 7:20 so I'm assuming I missed the first 20 minutes or so.

There were lots of subs so a bit hard to keep track but the Nix line up first half was basically Paston, Downey, Durante, Siggy, Lochhead, Brown, Lia, Bertos, Pantelis, Daniel, Greenacre.

Second half Siggy, Lia, Bertos, Pantelis, Daniel and Greenacre all came off and Tsattalios, Thurtell, Sanchez, Pavlovic, Ifill and a short midfielder called Peter all came on. I think that's right but it was kind of hard to see what was going on on the other side of the pitch.

The Nix were tidy enough but really pretty average throughout the game. Team Welly probably even had the better of the second half. They certainly forced a few smart saves out of Paston, including one from a penalty. Nobody else really stood out for the Nix except for the wrong reasons - Pavlovic and Daniel in particular butchering good chances.

Of the triallists Thurtell ran up and down the right hand attacking channel and looked tidy without really achieving anything and Peter (?) did much the same in centre mid.

Tony Warner was also there but didn't play.

No, he was playing for Team Welly. I recognised Ryan Cain and I think Scott Basalaj for the Wellington Team. Couldn't figure out others.

We were wearing our away strip and must say very good. Paston's goal keepers kit gets the thumbs up too.

Agree with TX, bloody freezing! No wonder people stayed away or I guess there could have been something else on tonight

Jr and I toddled along. As reported above , jeez it was cold.Almost more coaching/support staff than spectators.
Missed the start , earlier kick off than advertised.3-0 to Nix I think.
Nix were consistently faster than Welly but occasionally less accurate.SOme of the movement was quite impressive but the final ball left a lot to be desired on occasion.
One of the most impressive players on the field for us was Ryan Cain.Quick , good close control and not afraid to have a go.
If Thurtell was the blond kid who came on in the second hald and bombed up and down right wing, don't think he warrants a contract to be honest.
Pav surprised me- still quick but mad some very good runs , positioned well but couldn't score at Il-Bordello. As for the short arse who butcherd 2 great chances with a woeful first touch-.
Great pen save from Pasty.

Still , we had a good night as usual.Big plus- Jr met one his absolute heroes ( Siggy) who spent a bit of time chatting to him after he came off.Jr floated home after that. Siggy

not sure many people would have been there for various eggshaped reasons. Plus sounds like they moved the game forward from the 7.30 spot.

Lee Taylor said on Twitter that Greeny looked the goods for an old guy, nearly had four goals. So perhaps we will be okay come day 1 without a new striker?

I don't know where you got this 7.30 idea, it was said on several occasions here that the game started at 7.
