Not sure where to bring this up, so started a new thread.

We are now in our 5th season of phoenix.
As I can see, there are only 5 remaining players since the original squad. They are Lochhead, Brown, Pasty, Daniel & Lia.

They are all 30+ or thereabouts apart from Lia. So it wont be too long before this number dwindles down to zero which will be a shame.

Lia could be our only foundation player in a few seasons time, if he himself sticks around. I used to have hopes for Kosta, but they werent to be.

But with Lia being 26 and here since 2007, does this mean we could potentially see him in the All Whites mix sometime in the future?
Daniel got citizenship after one season, Im not sure how Lia's availability compares?

But if Vinnie was keen, could he not qualify for the AWs?

He still has his best years ahead of him, and fills a position that we have very few players lined up for. Well for the short term anyway, I think we do need some defensively strong midfielders for the National side, and Lia could do a job for us.

Thoughts???

Just one note about Daniel. He did get his citizenship almost straight away, but the latest FIFA regulations required him to be a resident or citizen in NZ for 5 years before being able to represent the AW's.
Not sure what the story is with Lia - I guess that if he hasn't bothered with the citizenship papers he might be in the same boat as Daniel. Or perhaps because he has (will have) resided in NZ for that long once he eventually gets his citizenship, he might be able to play for us.

Pretty sure Lia can't play for NZ as he's played for Australia in the 2003 U17 WC and 2005 U20 WC, and at that time he was not eligible to play for NZ.

haven't regulations changed?
I thought you were able to switch alliegiance if you haven't represented your A-National Team. Or do you nee do do that before you turn 21??

This. Lia is ineligible to represent New Zealand.

You can switch allegiance, but you have to have both nationalities at the time of representing a national team at an age-grade level if you want to switch to play at A international level of the other national team.

Lia doesn't meet this requirement (i.e. as Wibblebut pointed out, he wasn't eligible to represent NZ at the time he represented Australia at youth levels) and is therefore ineligible to play for New Zealand.

It took Daniel 3 years to get his citizenship

On Football Manager, it takes a player 3 years to gain citizenship, and then two more years to be eligible for the country. Daniel ended up in the All Whites in my game.
