I have got around 30 new copies of Stand Up If You Love The Kingz -
the unofficial inaugural season review of the Football Kingz in the
1999/2000 Australian NSL. This was a magazine styled publication
that myself and Michael Stephen produced with the help of good
people such as our old favourite on this forum HARD NEWS himself:-)
back in the early days of professional football in NZ.

I need to get rid of them so I can make some space for some of
my camera equipment that is starting to accumulate. What I propose
is that if people on this forum wish to purchase a copy for $5
including the postage (within NZ), I will donate the lot to either
the Yellow Fever supporters club or alternatively some of the group
on this forum who can use the money towards producing a banner or
something that can be used to show support for the Phoenix.
It might be that HARD NEWS may wish to be the money man
who can collect the $$ and work out the best way of using it. I
haven't told him this yet via home email so it will come as a
surprise to him:-) I may also be able to get hold of extra
copies should there be any interest.
You'd be doing me a favour as I really don't want to just bin
the magazines. They contain match reviews of every home and away
game in that first season of the Kingz, loads of photos, articles
from fans and players. A slice of history really.
Even if you didn't like the Kingz/Knights, it's an easy way
for the Phoenix fans to have some money to start doing some things.
Hell you might even decide to spend it at the bar!
So, if anyone is interested in this just leave your comments
here and me and my Hard friend will work out a plan....

Hey no problem. Not everyone will buy into it but as a
background Mike and I initially sold these for $12.50 and got
rid of enough - even when we lowered the price, to cover the $15k
it cost to produce. We broke even but still have a few mags left. I
think we had 3500 to 4000 of the things printed and Mike may
have 5 or so boxes left himself. But if anyone is interested that
can at least email me at ronaldo@world-net.co.nz and
I'll take a list of names and we will work out the best way to get
the funds to the right place. With me in Hamilton it would be
easier to have the funds looked after by someone in Wellington.
I've got a mountain of A4 prepaid envelopes so all ready to start
posting:-)
You really want a giant Phoenix banner that can go over the
top of the fans like we had with the Kingz....Hard News knows the
cost of that! Over 2 grand I think but we got sponsorship from
Lotto for one of them. Be nice of Reebok if they could come to the
party and underwrite one for you. The TV cameras will always look
for it once they know you have it and with a Reeebok logo on it,
its another form of advertising for them. Hey get on it, oh Hard
one.

That would be Hard News in the white shirt with tie holding a Kingz
scarf midway across the Fairfield Bridge in Hamilton. Not sure but
that may be me in the middle doing the old arm in the air
pose....You mustn't have been looking that hard at the crowd shots
because I've got the big banner on video heaps of times, from the
home games screened on SKY.

Hmm, the good old days when the Hamilton lot were the driving force
of Bloc 5:-p
Man we used to get a great core of fans drive up the Waikato
Expressway for home Kingz matches. Those were the days.

Apart from the brothers Ultra...
Pavlos, you need to remember that was made for season 2 of the Kingz so it was used a lot but that was in 2000, a good seven years ago now. It certainly got TV time back then. That one was replaced with one with the correct Voda sponsorship on it after they asked for it to be made for them.
I was trying to find shots of the bigger rectangular one that replaced the shirt ones, but the only shots I have are on my work machine. I'll bung them up tomorrow. That rectangle one went up at a couple of Knights games, one in each season but that was about it. It's got the Bloc 5 logo on one side so it's wasn't Kingz specific.
It's got a few rips in it. I should get it repaired as piece of history.

Hard News my man, I have a photo of that bigger Bloc 5 banner
somewhere. Didn't we unfurl the barrrstad across the road from
Hammers place? I think some people must have first thought we were
about to inflate a hot air balloon, the thing was that massive.
Much bigger that the original one pictured above. I'll try and dig
it out. How do you post the pics on here? I'm not yet totally
computa litrate!

I've got the same shots but at work.
I just host them on photobucket and link to them using Image tags. If you put the URL in then put [ I M G ] on the front and [ / I M G ] (take all the spaces out) on the end you can link to the image.

Hard News, we will need you to anchor one corner if we end up with
one as big as the old Kingz banner. Remember its winder down here
than Auckland and the things likely to take off.
Hey Kiwi Canary I'll have one of these books, I had a few but
I think my lovely wife threw them out, I guess I shouldnt have kept
them in the same box as my porn
. By the
way, she's still driving around with your old number plate on her
car.

As football fans we need to support this kind of thing that develops a NZ football culture rather than piggy backing of overseas history. I'm in and I encourage all of you to support this idea, that massive Phoenix shirt is only a few copies away!! Selekta I'll get the email off you Monday

I reckon we should do a ritualistic burning of the big jersey at
the end of the Phoenix's first home game (assuming they win)!

And if they lose we burn Melbourne and Archie.
