And for f's sake - if you are gonna start up Stand Up for the Phoenix - get the tune right - sick of saying this.

32k - We play every week...

Can't agree more with the stand up bit, I was unfortunate to sit just behind the culprits, they were the ones that having just paid $100 to see Beckham thought that they'd boo his every move, in my very first post I talked about people trying to be what they thought football supporters are, fellas you can't force this stuff, atmosphere just happens.  They also came out with the classic "you'll never beat the Phoenix" at 1-1.

Enough said.

I had a couple of drunk fellas besides me in Aisle 18 who were abusing Beckham the whole first half. God knows why. Jealousy? I managed to move to Ailse 20 for the second half and get away from it. I wish I could have passed a ball, a cross or done the simple one touch moves he produced.  I think the secret is he kept it simple but made it quality. No fancy stepovers just simple and so very quick. I reckon he could still do it for England.

I was Aisle 35 i think. We started a few clap clap clap clap clap clap phoenix chants which was good to see if not too adventurous. Was a bit annoyed about everyone applauding Galaxy goals, yes its a friendly but we weren't up to the standard we should've been. Costa was class when he came on, he'll be playing in 2010 at the world cup if we make it.

I'll just say that on tv it certainly appeared that the 'real' Nix fans were making plenty of noise, with the surreal celebrating of Beckham's corners clearly coming from the part-timers.  The "game-time" noise was something to be proud of.

Beckham looked a class act tonight - but to be fair no one was allowed to hit him hard, which is always a good way to make him think twice.

Nix were never going to get a result having played a league game only 24 hours before this, but with better finishing from Brownlie it could have been 3-2 with 15 minutes to go, and anything could have happened.

meh i had to sit down for half of the match otherwise i was told I would be escorted out, the original people behind me actually were suggested to move across the other side of the stadium because the steward said he couldn't force me to sit down, so they did ... then about 15 minutes later, some other people came to those seats (obviously not the original seat holders) and then I was basically forced to sit!! They were standing themselves but still couldn''t see over me because I was taller lol ... discriminated

great match though, thought Donovan played a blinder, Beckham was average ... was good meeting some of the YF bigwigs, and also some other faces behind the nicks on the forum

Cheers guys!!

I cant figure that one out, it was a friendly so why are some giving grief to those who cheered the Galaxy goals?? Come on, some of them were bloody good goals. I repeat, it was a friendly! I certainly would not cheer on the opposition but I would acknowledge them if they scored a good goal in a friendly.

Just for once I find myself agreeing with everything said by my QPR chum (glad you made it).  Nice touch of humble pie eating as well LGM.

I have no problem with people acknowledging Beckham taking corners.  It's called respect.  Fans are allowed to respect class players from other teams.  Gullit and Zola at Chelsea were examples of players who used to get a lot of applause from opposition fans.

Certainly it was a different sort of night and when I looked over to the YF zone there were definitely some very uncomfortable looking families and oldies in there.  Time to look at the bigger picture and just accept that this was one for everyone not just the die hards.

As for the game, were we crap?  No, just outclassed in the end by very expensive and experienced pros all across the park.  Our guys will benefit from the experience of just being on the pitch with them and Beckham's distribution was on another planet regardless of whether he got out of first gear.  The icing on the cake of what has been an extraordinary few months.

Onwards and upwards we rise.

I haven't seen the Nix play since attending the opening game (don't have Sky). I'd have to say that most of the Nix players impressed me with the exception ofg Elrich (who I think we should be getting mor eout of for the money we've paid). I know this was a friendly and players are likely to perform differently in the heat of an A League battle. However, Old was a completely different player to the one I saw in the opener. Brownlee looked dangerous when he was on. Costa.... gee he looked the goods to me - get him on - nice touches and quick!!!!!! such confidence for a young bloke. Liked the look of Lia as well and Ferrante is still as busy as Ii remembered. Don't know why he was taking the free kicks outside the box tho - perhaps it was in case Beckham got any and it would be easier for the non-footballing attendees to tell the difference between a good kick and a bad one  Beckham showed how easy football is didn't he? lovely to watch, reminds a bit of the old days when we had the likes of Trevor Brooking and Mick Channon playing down here - made evrything look easy.

Also, big ups to whoever put the match programme together.  As a bit of a connoisseur and collector of football programmes I can say this was easily the best by far I have ever seen for a game in NZ - and that includes the rugby and cricket ones produced as well.  My boy took the Beckham poster out of the middle and was delighted to find a poster of his hero Daniel on the back.  Guess which one is going on the wall!!

MMMmmmm, I stood the whole game but I decided I would be friendly and got right up to the back so I wasn't infront of anyone. We had a security gaurd next to us but he was a decent one he was having a chat and a laugh with us as he did his job.Even joint in with a few chants haha! I could understand the noise after Beckhams penalty I joined in but the rest of the Galaxy goals we should of gone silent like we do in A-League goals.

Anyway, Great job guys I applaude you all for a great performance.

EDIT: The blow up clapper things were good are they gonna be permanent or just the last two games?

Glad i went, some of beckham's passes alone were worth the price of admission.

At the start I looked around and thought in terms of the crowd - this is how life should be all the time.
Quite moving.

Felt a bit sorry for our lads as the tiredness set in, but most of them looked like they enjoyed the chance to be on the park playing against Beckham.

Thanks Jose, I really don't have a problem admitting I was wrong, because I was.

Everything about the game, before, during and after has been very positive. I sincerely hope enough has happened that would encourage first time fans to come back. We have a first class modern stadium, a Management team who are looking outside the square and targeting a bigger picture. A group of players keen as to show they can meet the challenge once they learn the standards required.

Now all I have left to do is explain my spending spree to "her indoors" and suffer the consequences! It isn't gonna be pretty. Perhaps I should lay down on my back like a dog does to show submission?? Paws in the air!!

Can someone clarify for me who was our keeper last night?  I'm sure at the stadium he was announced as Moss, he looked like Moss, he saved like Moss - so why did Lama, Sumner, and Hickey call him Paston the whole first half?

Maybe it was the coffee that did me in?

oh and Beckham is amazingly quick on the ball. it's like he decides what to do with it before he receives it...something our players at quite bad at in comparison...and i wanna see more of Costa! he looked sharp as a tack, just needed to back himself more and have a few shots

"he looked sharp as a tack, just needed to back himself more and have a few shots"

That applies to our whole team whom seem intent on being gunshy and not pulling the trigger. Was it tru that the two shots Brownlie had were the first two he's done in a Phoenix shirt??

We also got told to sit down, I explained to the guy that I have come to every home game and this is the fever zone so I'm not sitting-end of. luckily I was not blocking anyones view, also it seems some of the stewards used their brains and moved families over the other side.

Ticketek again mess up it seems although its almost unimaginable that they never told families that it is standing in the zone. Do they actually send their staff to have a look at a match in progress? The wife pointed out it is not an "official" standing area but my point is surely there is some sort of communication between the team, stewards and ticketek?

Was that really Paston for the full game? Blimey I've noticed my eyes are getting bad, especially when the floodlights come on, but that is silly. Thought it was Moss first half  Mind you I was a few rows back than normal.

Still felt myself getting heated up as we were losing, yes I know its a friendly but still. Never thought we would win though not with playing the day before, particularly with the work rate some of the guys put in on Friday.

I'll be glad to have the feverzone back to "normal" against the Gory and before anyone sez it yes it was good to get more people at the match but yes I am elitist.

And before people say 'but we played yesterday', fitness should not really come into it, our guys are supposed to be professionals which means they are fit, they only played 180 minutes over two days for goodness sake, hell Ive gone out and biked for 8 hours then run an hour one day then backed it up with another hour run the next day and felt fine.

Sorry to rant I want us to win every game we play and am just very dissapointed at the result (not the occasion)

Unlike me who plays FM 2008 and is therefore an expert you should know some players feel tired after playing a match

The club website indicates the areas between aisles 21 and 22 as the Yellow Fever zone. The Yellow Fever stand. Hence, that should surely count as official standing area. Even then, Ticketek surely should have figured out by now that we stand at football matches. Either they didn't make the effort to ensure they knew what they were selling, or they just didn't care.

I would love to see Ticketek forced to refund anyone inconvenienced out of their own pocket, since there is no reason why the club should have to pay for Ticketeks incompetence.

1] Beckham's cross field passes were true class, something our boys need to learn instead of the usual hoof ball

2] The YFZ sucked tonight. The regulars weren't there and it  sounded like the same 3 songs over and over. Time to practice some more.

3] Not joining in with the wave despite every other section gave the YFZ an elitiest look. Sorry lads but when you sang "we're here to watch the football" you gave the impression that you are the only ones allowed to start a song or do anything.

4] AIlse 18 sucked - where I was, everyone seemed more intent on drinking their chardoney rather than watching the football or making any noise.

5] The game itself for me wasn't too bad. You could see Donovan and that negro fella meant business. Both being very quick and NOT gunshy unlike our team. Brownlie had what I believe maybe his first ever shot at goal in a Phoenix Jersey.

6] I'm glad you all got on my case to make it. I'm glad I was there. Sorry YFZ members to sound harsh as I realise most of you regulars were scattered to the four corners.

7] The streaker deserved to be up on the big screen!

why are you always quick to  put down the efforts of the yf zone  when you very rarely sit there yourself  i have no voice after TWO night of singing and chanting

how do you join in a  mexican wave when your already standing up ????
we weren't the only ones starting chants either  people all over were starting them and we  would join in with them too

Now wait just a minute! Are you condoning mexican waves?
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Not condoning it but hey if the rest of the stadium were doing it, why not join in? If I am correct the Mexican Wave started when the World Cup was held in Mexico was it not?

Ps: I just googled this and the best answer I could find was........

The Mexican Wave did start in Mexico but it was first seen (internationally) in Mexico City in the Azteca Stadium in 1968 during the Mexico Olympics. Mexico's right of ownership was confirmed during the Mexico World Cup two years later.

I think Mexican Waves are great - for sports where you sit down to watch the match. It's just not the same when you're standing up and cheering. Besides, it always seems like it's a sign of boredom to me.

Yes it was only an exhibition but LA Galaxy are hardly the great team we made them look like. I enjoyed the night out but never want to see us play like that again, we were poor and are so much beter than the 1/2 pie effort we put in tonight.
And before people say 'but we played yesterday', fitness should not really come into it, our guys are supposed to be professionals which means they are fit, they only played 180 minutes over two days for goodness sake, hell Ive gone out and biked for 8 hours then run an hour one day then backed it up with another hour run the next day and felt fine.

agreed about the result being disappointing and that the quality of our football was below our usual but Teza you really have displayed a lack of understanding in your post

I note that you didn't go for an 8 hour bike ride followed by another 8 hour bike ride -
and riding a bike is an activity that is frequently repeated on a next day basis

professional football teams are never expected to repeat a match activity within a 24 hour period- not least because the recovery times from (even minor) contact injuries are longer than those for DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness), also minor tearing of muscle fibre is going to happen far more often in football than when you are on your bike

finally, i would suggest you are under less mental stress riding your bike than professional footballers are during a match - not all tiredness is physical

in a nutshell, riding your bike then go for a run the next day doesn't equate to what the Nix players were expected to do last night!! (it might make you feel good about your fitness, but it's got naff all to do with your central point  -the allegation that fitness wasn't a factor last night)
