Many are, but if the first season ticket holders to call, took 8 tickets in the zone, the normal seats were long gone for some.

Ahh so it was you I met! We are still hoops in spirit, but had to go with the edict from UEFA that you must have clean backs for the numbers in case we made Europe (Newcastle fallen foul too). Loved it when we hosted QPR a few seasons back and all the banter and chanting was about the hoops - not what was on the field!
 
Glad to see we are surviving too, but as for Coppell - even as a Reading fan - the guy is an enigma and a genius at the same time! Hardly cracks a smile, doesnt say much and when he does it a riddle, and blames himself when the team loses. How often do we see that??

The Mexican wave was introduced as a way of keeping the crowd entertained during breaks in the game, it's so 1980's and bores the sh*t out of me.  How many waves have we seen this season?  I remember one at the first pre-season game and thankfully since then they seem to have died a death.

Don't agree, the Beckham booing annoyed the f*ck out of me too, it just showed an complete lack of originality and proved that to some it's more about how you look in front of your mates.  It's like buying a ticket to a concert and booing the band.

I didn't boo Becks and I clapped when Galaxy scored but I did want Phoenix to win!

great experience and I'm glad I had the chance to watch him play

As for the Phoenix  I love them!!!

LA just had a little bit more pace and class in that final third.

Impressed by Clint Mathis and Landon Donovan. Beckham had his moments but was in and out of the game. Carlos Pavon is crap.

Believe it or not, some of us went to the game to watch the Phoenix, and couldn't care less about the opposing players, whoever they were.

Having said that, we didn't boo Beckham at all as gave us no reason to do so, but I certainly have much more sympathy for those who booed than for those who creamed their pants every time he touched the ball and gave him the biggest cheers of the night when he was taking corners FFS, and when he scored from that stupid penalty. Was not impressed by that at all.

Personally I thought Landon Donovan played better than Beckham, but Beckham still played well.

Where was Abel Xavier? I was really looking forward to seeing him!

football mum, could've invited me down to stand with you guys, i had to sit down for the majority of the second half while everyone else stood up lol .. next time the stewards ever tell me to sit down, ill just stay standing, even if they do threaten to throw me out

I agree with you , Donovan was dangerous and a class player all night, thought Beckham was average myself, sure he made some very nice long range passes and his short passes were simple yet effective, but Donovan was the better player.

I noticed that we seem to defend too deep and the opposition was getting too many passes to the strikers in the box who are then passing to someone else in the BOX!!! Id be happier if the were shooting ouside the box rather than near the penalty spot

we have a slow defence, while the galaxy have some quick attackers so we defend deep. if we defended higher we would run the risk of them getting in behind us.

yep your right,  we do this in the league games aswell though.  A good goalie should be able to clean up as a sweeper if offside trap is broken.  Plus Im not saying defend too high up the field,  just atleast outside the box then it gives you the option to chop him down if need be

He'd never take the job.  Can't handle pressure and England is nothing but pressure.  Great manager at the right club though (ie/ smaller clubs with lower expectations, no disrespect intended).

Even by Italian standards, that penalty was a little dubious.

Not one of the better Phoenix performances, but a good game nonetheless.  Here's hoping we avoid the wooden spoon this season...

During match I texted friend in New York saying that I thought Clint Mathis looked a good player... Brian replied later. Comments were, I thought, interesting so...  -
got your text on mathis. kind of amusing, actually, since he's notorious for NOT working hard. he had fantastic raw talent. still does. he has that indescribable trait that most americans lack. the best word i can come up with is audacity. i remember watching in '02 the us play a friend in dublin vs the republic and mathis got the ball about 35 yards out and ripped a dipping shot that beat shay given but hit the crossbar. i remember telling my friend that mathis was the only person on the field (in white anyway) that would've even considered taking that shot. he had that something. but he was always a head case. work habits were notorious. very erratic. could be top class one day and worthless the next. sad what become of him. he could've been the best footballer america ever produced.

that penalty - if that's how we are reffering to it, was beyond dubious, it was outright criminal, should have been a red card for diving!!!!
I work with a lady who knows Mike (the ref) she's not here today but belief me she'll be hearing all about it, and expected to relay the info in kind!!

I think the ref thought he had to give the penalty because he thought most of the crowd wanted Beckham to score.

Unfortunately, he was wrong on two counts. It was by no stretch of the imagination a penalty, and a decent amount of us didn't want to see Beckham score.

From the angle I was sitting, Aisle 32, my initial reaction was that it was a penalty. After seeing replays from the opposite angle to where I was sitting it seems less likely, but Old did stick a foot out

I didnt boo him - but its the fact the woman that said that was also not singing, clapping, actually she didnt do anything apart from consistently shouting 'pass it to beckham'

I dont dislike Beckham - or the attention he gives the nix - it just makes me sick how people like TV1 and Paul Henry all jump on the bandwagon - and will soon be back off it now he's gone

we had an awesome time sitting in Aisle 26 with our 2 banners. We had one that said 'BECKS Show us ya curve' and one for the phoenix in their colours "GOAL". We tried to get into the chant as well, but it seemed as though we only heard our voice as the people around us weren't joining in. Some kids in front of us by a couple of rows were and they held their LA Galaxy flags up, which was cool.  We did have a gripe though. When we were celebrating we held up our sign over our heads for a short time and all we got from this lady behind us was 'Put your sign down, your bloking my view'  For crying out loud, we didn't have it up for long, and plus the big screen is there if she needed to see anything.  I hope shes not going to the Sevens cause she won't be seeing a hell of a lot.  Thats my 2c over and done with. Wish people could enjoy the atmosphere as well as the game.  Overall awesome turnout.

Circus - yes, Entertaining - very much so, should the penalty have been called just because the result didn't matter - Hell No!! Even if the result is immaterial, fairness and accuracy from a ref is all we ask, was one thing, but that on top of several other clearly missed calls were very disapointiong in an otherwise awesome event!

Could Foley consider flying Bournemouth to NZ for Auckland FC's first game of note, in July?  Is feasible. If he did the Nix might be able to piggback off that, though the Cherries are not exactly a drawcard side.

Hadn’t even thought how that might open up with Foley! Now the possibility of English or French teams coming here would be great…pump up the pre-season with those who don’t know their touch judges from their linos, but are still keen for a good game and some live sport…

Really was a different time back then.

And for the forum! 

LG and OiOi really don’t seem to have changed at all! (And never do lads) 
Fenix was there- sorry mate had you confused with a saddo who had the forum name Christchurch Rangers or some such, but you’ve been there for ages and even been happy at times with our football! 
And TheProf was there too! 

Lots and lots mia though. And not just Junior. 
I don’t think I met any of these guys in person that I know, but any intel on…:

Ginger-eejit, Bevan, Jag, GiddyUp, Teza, RobbWatson, ForteanTimes, Cosimo, Yomcat, Tigers, Tegal, DairyFlat, Marius Lacatus and Daniel’sleftball. I’m sure El Grap is still around somewhere. Also Turfmoore, but he’s not in this thread.

For those who said we were poor - who gives a crap. We were actually quite good at the start though.
 
And for f's sake - if you are gonna start up Stand Up for the Phoenix - get the tune right - sick of saying this.
