Great win!!
But where are two of our imports?
George isn't injured but Herbert hasn't fielded him once!
We are talking about  a guy who has played in the Premier League and First division in Portugal and  scored goals! At first i thought fitness but surely they would slowlt try and get the guy into the game!!
Does anyone know whats up with him and Felipe?

Ricki said that George was about 2-3 weeks behind the rest of the squad on fitness, he was asked about it on the Phoenix Hour interview on saturday, Felipe is also not up to the required fitness level but he is not far off...

George and Campos are both working on fitness.  Herbert has been keen to get results in the last couple of games as the club needs good ticket sales and only a winning side will get that - so he's sitting them out until they are fit enough to play at 100%.

I phoned up radiosport last night and had a yarn with Andrew Dewhurst (who mentioned yellowfever quite a bit) and after commenting on the Phoenix win over Melboure we talked for a bit about why they haven't played yet. He had no idea why they weren't playing and I suggested it was fitness issues, but neither of us where sure. But it could be that there English isn't up to scratch as Rocky said.loyalgunner2007-08-06 09:42:29

But it could be that there English isn't up to scratch as Rocky said.

I think it is a combination of both language and fitness issues, Cleberson could speak some English and Daniel arrived first, so they went straight into the team, Ricky was taking a bit of a gamble with these guys you never no how good they might be, but I'm sure we'll see them in regular season.

Isn't it great to know we still haven't seen the best of the Nix. Victory should be worried going into game one if those two play.

Plus Tim Brown and Richard Johnson who have both proved more than useful at this level.

have heard from a very reliable source that george has been pretty disappointing at training, not as good as they hoped. General attitude is below par. Apparently Felippe is a star, 3/4 Brazilians is pretty good going though without meeting them before hand

Wow that really is bad news. Has got a good pedigree tho so maybe will be worth giving a go!!
I dont see why not...after all it is pre season. I thought something was wierd when i saw him sitting in the stands versus sydney chatting up some girls instead of sitting on the bench as he was on the team list.

my thoughts at the start of the signings of the brazilians was that daniel and cleberson would be great felipe would be good and that george would be like a claudinho for melbourne and just be a backup. dsonmt ask me why i thought that i just did. felipe could suprise me thow and be brilliant and so too could george ill just have to wait and see

George is a more explosive, pace based striker - an obsessive attacker.  Not the kind of skills that show up well in training because there's no 'heat' in a practise.  Get him on the pitch in a match, in the league, you'll see a different George.  It might take a while for Ricki to feel fully confident in him.

Campos is a touch of class from what I've heard - but again, needs to work on his fitness and his strength.

It has been surprising to see that Felipe hasn't played a lot yet because by all accounts, he is absolute class. His fitness levels are fantastic but is still getting used to the physicality of the a-league.
As for George, apparently he has been a bit dissapointing, both on and off the park. His attitude needs more working on than his fitness. He has been below par at training and needs to show more if he wants to take one of the current strikers places.

Benjamin,

Have you got two profiles? One to log on and makes a statement, and another "football" to log on straight afterwards and says the opposite. . ..  ? LOL

Nah, one profile is probably one too many for me to handle!!  I contradict myself often enough without needing to change identities.

If George has an attitude problem, as 'Football' suggests, then I'd suspect it's something to do with him being a long way from home, in a strange country (not to say that NZ is strange, simply that it ain't Brasil, or Portugal, for that matter), and not being as fit as his team-mates.  Ironically, it might have suited him better if Nix had lost in the cup so he could get some game time without Ricki having to worry about the result.

The more i think about it, the more i think that herbert is reserving him George and Felipe for the surprise factor. It is ridiculous if George hasn't got game time due to fitness as to gain fitness a 10 minute blowout would do the world of good.

Yeah - and that's to be expected. It's very unlikely that all 4 Brazilians will settle in easily. I would be VERY happy with 2 or 3/4

Long way to go yet.  No reason it can't be 4/4.  My friends in Brasil thought that Felipe was the weakest of the 4, but he appears to be pretty sharp in training.  Give them all time - season hasn't even started yet.

Homesickness can't be underestimated, it took me a good few months to pull my head out my a*se when I first left England.  Once the lad picks up a bit more English, makes a few friends down here, he'll warm to the task - and once he's on the pitch with a ball to chase, you just watch the problems fall away!
