You mean the Perth Glory that placed above us last season, right?
This signing doesnt look great though - 35 years old??

This is interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandre_da_Silva_Mariano
'Before he turned professional, Amaral worked as a grave digger.'
I can imagine a journalist or commentator finding that out and making the horrendous 'could he be digging the graves of other teams this season?' comment.

People say every year that Perth are sh*te and will be rock bottom or competing with the used to be Knights. Fact is, every season they've been there or there about, and Im positive they will be again this year

I love how A League clubs are trying to find the next Daniel.
We've got the best Brazilian in the league...

if amaral has a good attitude and stays injury free Perth might have someone a bit special here
sure he's had a few clubs but he's also played at a level most in this league can only dream of
Permalink
no disrespect to him but he looks like a has-been
Permalink

I remember watching him play years ago for Fiorentina. Not a bad player - never going to be a game breaker though.
He's had almost as many clubs as (not so) 'Super Mario'... which is not a good sign for a player of that age.

31 caps sounds a bit much to me? Can someone shed any light on this?

yeah, the Brazilian cap count thing is always interesting
the mighty Tigers latest signing (and possibly the best after Raich Carter - about half a century ago) Geovani has between 1 and 8 caps depending who you read
as to Amaral - it could be accurate but maybe that's caps at all levels
then again, would he have youth caps etc then a brief grave digging career then suddenly remember where he'd left his football boots and grab a few full caps ??

I agree with HK Keeper on this one. Perth are frightfully shambolic (beaten only by the one and only NZ Knights).
With this chaps past job I agree we are in for puns-aplenty: "It looks like the tables have turned and the Phoenix are now digging his grave" or something equally poor.

I wish we had signed Amaral, if only to sing this song:

Is this the way to amarillo?

could be the prefect tune for when he comes here
i guess we'll be able to rustle up a few words by then

Perth have a similar advantage to us in that the away trip is pretty nasty, even from the east coast of Australia, always going to be a tough trip
Normo's coming home

losing leo and colosimo, and only gaining dadi. perth must be odds on to get the spoon this year. they'd need at least another 4 over the hill players to be anyway competitive
I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

How deluded.
Leo didnt play well for Perth last year. Colosimo is a loss. Dadi is not a gain. Obviously I cant really comment til Ive seen them play, but the argie, the keeper and Amaraul all look like decent signings and I have no doubt they'll be competitive again this season

Don't rule out Rukavytsya's impact either. He could have a big year.

Sounds about right - but they were a long long time ago.

Geovanni has 8, I believe. He was the next big thing in Brasilian football but once he got to Spain he lost his way (read: got a big head and couldn't be bothered anymore).
