can someone help me here... if Paston and Spoonley are going to be
away with the All Whites, what happens about backup if Mossy gets
injured (heaven forbid)?

good point!, last time we had Spoonley on the bench and James Bannatyne was on the bench for the AWs (from memory)
not a very good situation, I hope the ref (and Dodd etc) protect Mossy

Karl Dodd could make a pretty fiesty keeper if the worst comes to
the worst. Having said that, he'd be as exposed as a guy in
Antarctica in his pyjamas as there would be nobody defending him
(OK, maybe Lochhead would).

If Clebo was still in the team he'd have been a star super-sub I
reckon.

surley if moss got injured then paston would play for nix and
spoonley for AW of the other way round

I'd imagine someone like Phil Imray will sit on the Phoenix bench
next Saturday night

makes sense, i guess that would involve signing him on a short-term (i.e 1 week) loan contract
just as well we've got 2 spaces in the squad

to me it would make more sense (for both Aw's and Nix) to bring nicholson in to the AW's for Spoonley
but Lf1's idea seems more likely than changing the AW squad

Correct me if I'm wrong but Bannatyne retired from the AWs. This
leaves an extra space for a keeper

Paston and Spoonley are the AW's goalies for the games against Vanuatu. Haven't heard anything about Bannatyne retiring.

Imray won't sign for the Phoenix as the international transfer will
stop him playing again this season in the NZFC.
You are more likely to see Bannatyne on the Phoenix bench.

Well, I'm a pretty good goalie...different sport, I admit, but
still, I'd be keen

I reckon you've set a whole new standard in out-there-ness for this board
,it is traditional for folks to suggest grabbing someone for a position they've never played in, or to suggest a transfer that will never happen
but to suggest someone from a different sport - classic

you may have started a trend, look out for HN if you have

So is he.....

Well here's the answer to my original question:
As cover for No1 Glen Moss, the Phoenix are set to bring
in Victorian premier league goalkeeper Stuart Webster on a one-week
contract to sit on the bench against Sydney FC at Westpac Stadium
on Saturday night, with both Mark Paston and Jacob Spoonley on
international duty with the All Whites.
