A couple of interesting stats...

The Phoenix have scored four goals in their two matches this season...they didn't score their fourth goal until game four in season one and game six last season.

And they have four different goalscorers - that didn't happen until game six in season one and until game ELEVEN last season.

That second stat is very encouraging, with Judas gone it was always going to be important for everyone to contribute well to goals. Leo scored with a scorcher instead of his 'nads, both new strikers have scored and great to see Siggy get his first for the club. Oska2009-08-17 07:58:30

I would be happy for all the players to score a few goals each, instead of previous seasons where thee was only one major scorer.

If you want Ferrante to score you'll have to take him to a brothel

dunno if he would score then.

It is really great to see though. Bertos getting so many assists is a very very good sign

Leo's taking a couple of shots per game at least as well, its great to see some strikes coming out of him even if defenders get in the way or they're saved - keep shooting and they'll start going in.

Some really great intent by both English strikers too, as they play more together we could be looking at a superb partnership.

If Ifill and Greenacre continue as well as they've started then unfortunately I can't see Costa getting much of a sniff.  Originally I thought they'd be quite average and Costa (and Hearfield as well though he's unrelated to this post) would really step up for the nix, but I've been pleasantly surprised by our English imports.

I can see Greenacre scoring quite a few more. With his work ethic I can see how he'll sniff out a few rebounds or scraps. Ifill hits a good ball as we saw - that first shot was incredible given he had to keep it down from an angle on the half volley. It could easily have cleared the roof, instead it was a great save Royal2009-08-17 14:34:59

I wonder how nix fans will react when he starts kissing his new clubs badge after scoring??

It is very pleasing to seeing the scoring being shared around this season, it shows a team effort and a new confidence to have a go whenever a chance appears instead of holding back and setting up one player to do the job.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I think both strikers look really good acquisitions, they are both busy, both great in the air, and Ifill was getting those shots on target with power and great technique. Factor in the Diego flair and Bertos hitting form, and the Nix look way more potent than last year, where it was a one trick pony.
Now if only we can stop the defence from switching off a couple of times a game, then we might even surprise a few of the Strines.

Yep we will score plenty this season.....still think the defense looks shaky. if we can tighten that area up we could be in for quite a ride this season.

Everyone probably forgotten but I'd like to give Tony P and the crew a big pat on the back for their recruiting this season. they took their time, they did the right thing in trialing guys, they sorted out the duds and we have ended up with some very good players. I was one of the many who were angsting over the whole thing but now all I can say is BLOODY WELL DONE

Great post zinidane, big ups to the management, feels good to have spare spots on the roster and an import spot to use as well.
