Gould said it took the switch to Perth for him to realise just how highly rated Herbert and the Phoenix are in Australia.

The credibility Ricki has across the Tasman among A-League teams and coaches is amazing, Gould said.

I dont think Ricki and the team are appreciated as much in New Zealand, apart from the fans in Wellington, as they are in Australia.

Gould is obviously a f**king idiot and needs to be put straight by Ryan Nelsen.

Stoked! I'm convinced that Gould is a goalkeeping genius. Just about every keeper we've had under him kicked ass.
Paston, obviously, Moss was great here and bombed in Melbourne before shifting to GCU (?) Reddy played well for us alcoholic elsewhere, and Vuko.
I suspect Gould was a huge part of all their successes at the club.

Hey maybe Trani will come back to and the old gang will be together again?

Gould must think that Ferguson is a terrible coach - I really don't know why he went to work for him in the first place.

Trani must think Ricki is a terrible coach, otherwise there's no way he would have left the Phoenix.

All that aside, this is very good news for the club and the goal keepers!

That they didn't take that option is down to their regard for the way the head coach operates, along with the fantastic spirit in the dressing room"

More trash-talking from Gould.

Probably clear now why we muddled through last year without a Goalkeeping Coach. Ricki has probably had this lined up since Welnix came on board.

Good new having Gould back.

The other interesting point from the "Gould signs" article in the Doom Post was regarding the assistant coach appointment.

It says that Ricki is going to Europe to interview a possible assistant coach. Well that clears things up. Many assumed the Greenie was getting that job....even though it had been pointed out he does not have the A-League required A licence for an assistants job.

So I guess we shall have to wait and see who is appointed.

IMO this leaves the Greenie position up in the air. The club has alwqays said that they would like to find some kind of role for him. Trouble is it is hard to see Welnix forking out an extra full salary for him if we already have an assistant coach. With only 8 in the academy side it could be possible that the club decides that assistant coach could look after these guys in an expanded squad.

We did OK with one coach last season(Ricki)....hard to see us suddenly go to four Ricki, Gould, Assistant and Greenie, with a squad that is only going to be around 8 players bigger.

Don't under estimate the role of Lee Taylor. Although primarily a conditioning coach, I think he was a lot more than that in reality

The assistant coach role is VERY important in my eyes, as there is a chance he could be our next head coach when Ricki moves upstairs in a few years...

[quote]Wellington Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert has agreed to a new contract, which could keep him at the club for the next four years.

Chairman Rob Morrison said the contract was for two years as head coach, with a two-year option on football-related matters.

So probably only 1 more season as coach.
