I have some great news and I want you the fans to be the first to know!
I have signed for the Phoenix. You heard me right, I have signed for the Phoenix.
Let me explain.
You may have heard the news about Frank Yallop resigning as coach of my current club the Los Angeles Galaxy. This has enabled me to exercise a clause in my contract that allows me to part terms with the club.
Why would I want to do this? To play for the Phoenix of course.
I heard about the difficulty that the Phoenix are having finding a stable defense. This seems to me to be the challenge that I was looking for when I came to play in the MLS, but which has since turned out to be just a promotion exercise.
Proving myself as a defender has been something I have wanted to do for a long time. Whenever I have offered to play fullback Sir Alex Ferguson, or Sven Goran Erickson, or anyone else who has had the privilege of coaching me, has insisted that I am too valuable too the team to play as a defender. In fact, I had a long standing ban from tackling imposed on me while I was playing for Manchester United. This has resulted in me developing into a purely attacking player, which is something I want to change before I retire from playing football.
So I will be heading to Wellington soon to fill the starting Right Fullback spot.
Hopefully you will welcome me, and my family, to your wonderful city with open arms. I know you were not expecting to see me until next month, but I will be honouring the contract for the Phoenix vs Galaxy game, only playing for the home team.
Hope to see you soon.
Yours,
David Beckham
in your recent email you appear to have accidentally deleted a crucial word before pressing send.
If we place the word "up" just before the word "yours" we get a clearer picture of your attitude to our beloved club
and yes Dear 'David" we are happy to reciprocate.
(actually, it wasn't bad DB
