Hal 10 & the Nix

Hal 10 will be a landmark year.

Interesting to see what the posters on YF believe will be the direction the Nix’s will head i.e. become a Wellington based side or a more national side, crowds, NZ ratings etc..

Lots of eyes on Football in Hal 10, it will start after the World Cup, be the first year the National Premier League will be operating and the first year for the Australia Cup, and I assume will stop and re start during the Asian Cup.

David Gallop and FFA are indicating the next media deal will be 100 million plus. Also there will be 12 teams, all teams aside from Nix have had their licences expended until 2034. The Nix license subject I guess to the AFC and maybe FIFA.

The four Key Performances Indicators used by media buyers are, ratings, net hits, crowds, media space [i.e. how much the local media give a team or sport].

Just in closing, I assume after the Asian Cup in Australia, ACL matches will receive better coverage and acceptance.

Broadcast

Today 27 rds * 5 games + finals is 140 games.

With 12 teams

33 rds * 6 games + finals is 203 games

Plus Australia Cup 32 games

Plus ACL 24 [min] matches

Say 260 games …. Plus National matches plus W-League.

The 100 million + media deal assumes continual growth in all KPI’s. So would enjoy reading YF thoughts on were and how the growth will come in NZ.

Why do I always read an undertone that you're hinting we shouldn't be in the league whenever I read your posts? (Which are always pretty much just the same post with different wording)

Yeah got that too. Also how the hell do we know what is going to happen? If we could move ahead with  stadium, produce more wins, move into Asia or get Oceania expanded to include Australian and other teams, get a youth team playing Aussie youth teams, get a bit of investment in the club the FFA would drop it's trousers for us.

It's all about money and Fifa. We still are the only team in NZ playing A league football and I know a lot of people who regularly watch it on the telly/buy shirts even if they don't go to matches, so the Nix is still worth money, Fifa? If it's somehow making them money then they'll back us too

OMG what under tones ....
I simply asked how YF see's where its growth will come from ...  A NZ team offers a unique aspect to the A-League ... by hopefully creating interest in Football from the NZ population  which can be included in The Australia population pertaining to ratings ... and general interest... something AFL would kill for ...

All teams from each region ..especially  Perth, Brisbane, & Central Coast, ... have issues moving forward in that they need to increase crowds, memberships etc .... I am aware of the Mariners plan and if it fails we could be relocated ..

In brief the CC plan is in youth development and community engagement ... today we have a private Football school on the CC and the COE is nearing completion ... developing and selling juniors will bring in money ... community engagement and hopefully on field success will increase crowds and ratings...

As for ratings the CC like every other A-League team is reliant on and increase in the match day product [ie all teams lift] on offer and better promotion especially by SBS on FTA.
I also said we will have roughly 260 games and Gallop says we are hoping for a 100 million dollar media deal...
My question is were do or were does YF see its growth coming from ... as it is a land mark year with many media watchers and buyers watching ...

No, I'm not commenting on what the club is likely to do, I'm talking about me as a supporter.

You asked for opinions from posters on here.

I do my best by turning up and looking sexy on match day when I can and buying official A league stuff.

Wellington Phoenix and Welnix have many options but as I'm not on the board, ( I would have strangled Morgan by now), then I can't answer for them, although I've posted many times about the need for investment and what I think will improve crowds.

For me an ideal world going forward for the A-League would be 14 teams where everyone plays each other twice and you have a 26 game season. On the weekend we are going to have our fourth Big Blue of the season - I feel that is too many. Playing each other only twice helps to ensure that rivalries stay fresh. In saying that I don't think the A-League can expand into 4 different markets right now. It's more of a long term goal.

I don't see ACL matches ever gaining a huge following. The FFA's Asian promotionis typical and probably neccesary but I think everyone will still look to Europe. I can't see the regular competition matches being out attended/rated by the ACL.

Its ben10 not Hal10. And yeah I suppose playing it on the big screen will get more kids along? At least I think that's what you're trying to say?

So far I have not seen or heard any serious signs that new franchises would pop up anywhere in Australia. In fact it is pretty sobering that the one that makes most noises is the once-defunct NQ Fury.  So for the time being it is still 10 teams as we speak for the next season.

With 12 teams we would get a reduction in the number of times teams have to play each other. However, we should not aim at much longer season anyway, as we (HAL) are effectively competing for good playing surface with other codes.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I agree with this.

Can someone with more brains than me give us a list of metro areas in Aus that don't have a franchise?

FNQ would be one of the biggest "markets" still available. You wonder if they have any desire at all to explore Auckland and Christchurch. Probably not, but you never know. Once the league is financially sustainable those sorts of risks take on a different complexion.

For the Nix, next year is a crossroads. Fail again and I fear the worst.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

With Populations (Including current team locations):

Sydney - 4,667,283 (SFC & WSW)

Melbourne - 4,246,345 (MVC & MCFC)

Brisbane - 2,189,878 (Roar)

Perth - 1,897,548 (Glory)

(NZ) Auckland - 1,418.000

Adelaide - 1,277,174 (AU)

Gold Coast - 590,889*

Newcastle - 418,958 (Jets)

Canberra - 411,609

(NZ) Wellington - 397,900 (WPX)

(NZ) Christchurch - 379,100

Central Coast - 321,500* (CCM)

Sunshine Coast - 285,169

Wollongong - 282,099

Hobart - 216,959

(NZ) Hamilton - 212,000

Geelong - 179,042

Townsville - 171,971

Cairns - 142,528

Darwin - 131,678

(NZ) Napier/Hastings - 125,300

(NZ) Tauranga - 123,500

(NZ) Dunedin - 119,100

Toowoomba - 110,472

So three biggest would be Auckland, Gold Coast, Canberra (Numbers are from Wiki, so not sure on trustworthiness), I did just use "City lists" so some areas that have more surrounding parts might be smaller than expected (EG. Townsville/N.Queensland)

Canberra, 'gong & Auckland are the best options for expansion. Its hard to find a 4th, maybe a second Brisbane team but that is very far off.

How popular is football in Darwin? That'd be a decent trip.

Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I'd pick the following [in no particular order] for expansion:

Auckland, Gold Coast/Northern NSW, Canberra, Woolongong and down the track even 3rd teams in Melbourne and Sydney areas

Canberra and Wollongong for me. Both have good football catchment areas and are very sports focussed cities

Wollongong makes sense. Sydney FC and Western Sydney games would draw decent crowds and they would get some away support for Newcastle and Central Coast games. St George Illawarra also only play 4 games down there each year so they don't really have a team to cheer for outside of basketball. Canberra seems like the other obvious option.

I don't think so. Stable owners are a rareity in the A-league.

Woolongong are very keen and were on the verge of application until their financial backer recently went down the gurgler.

Equally the owners arent football people, they are business men. If the another season of poor results and poor atendances happens the buisiness case gets considerably worse.

All I can say is that if the Nix ever do get the boot I am going to catch a flight to Aussie so I can find Midfielder and kick him in the nuts.

Sorry Midfielder, I know it would be spiteful and immature to blame you personally but I can't deny my feelings.

Yeah man, we would probably have the biggest financial backing than any other club. Look at all the stuff that's happened recently with academies, new stadium proposal, EPL games... FFA would give anything for more owners as proactive as ours.
