A lot of talk about whether he deserves his contract lately, with some people suggesting he isn't worth it.

I'd tend to disagree, I though last year he looked technically capable, made some dangerous passes and added energy to our game. Also scored a cracker.

A little weak on the ball at times and perhaps gifts possession but certainly didn't look out of place.

Don't know how to make a poll, but simple question, worth it or not.

I don't think he was bad by any stretch, but I think he's just behind too many other players for a spot in that midfield. Would rather another centreback or striker was contracted, especially as if the AWs have games which clash with Nix games we could be without Dura, Siggy, Boxall, Brockie, Fenton, and Boyd. Assuming we sign WeeMac, he'd be the only centre mid we'd lose to the AWs

I think he deserves his contract. I think he is a very limited player - poor on the ball but his link up play is actually very good. Given that he is cheap, I don't have a real problem having him in the squad. I feel he is good enough to feature at some point during the season.

I should add that if we get a 26 man squad like Ernie wants then I've got no problem with him being in there. Not so much if we've only got 23

I think he's a very limited player who filled a gap in our squad that has now, unfortunately for him, been filled quite capably - especially if weeMac signs. I can't see him getting much gametime.

Hicks, JBS, Caira are all surplus to requirements for mine

He'll be on a low salary. Even if we wanted to replace him it probably couldn't be anyone decent. At least in the case of Caira he'd be earning a fair bit more so would open up more cap space. Presumably of course. I think he's a decent squad player, more likely to play than Rufer is.

Fuck this stupid game

I think Rufer will be ahead of him in the pecking order because Rufer is someone the club want to develop for the future

Hicks was picked ahead of Rufer for basically all of last season iirc. I don't think a lot has changed. Rufer's a player for the future but Hicks comfortably has the edge on him right now.

Rufer still has a very long way to go to play in the A-League imo, Hicks is more than capable of doing a job right now. Hicks is a good squad player and I doubt he is on much wages, so i don't see the hate for him tbh.

So who would you replace those guys with considering you wouldn't have much money to play with?

In a 23 man squad some players aren't going to see much game time.

For a squad player who has come on, scored a goal and won us a game, I think he's done quite well for us. Definitely one of the good news stories of last season. Not a championship winning starter, but someone with potential to improve and capable of doing a job at the moment. More reliable than Rufer at the moment and so far a better eye for goal than Ridenton. More than happy to have him at the 'Nix.

HIcks has two main limitations.  He's very left footed and he has no long passing game.  He plays tidy short passes but when it comes to open out he can't do it so he keeps it too tight.  Pretty limited player really.  Doubt he'll get a contract beyond this year as you'd hope one of the young guys Rufer or Ridenton will take his pace in the squad

I think he was the only player along with carlos last year who had decent through balls. Offers more than I've seen Rufer provide (still lost on what that is)

Thought he was solid last season. Good squad player. Unfortunately for him he's got Ridenton & to a lesser extent, Rufer chasing his position.

Still think he's good value for his contract, and at least we're giving a kiwi a shot at professional football.
