Just brilliant.

2 things stand out for me from watching it (about 4 times in a row).
1 - The crowd noise, I knew we were making alot of noise but it sounds fantastic on TV.
2 - Just how much the play has improved. Gone are the long balls from the first couple of games and our build up work looks nothing short of classy.

yeah, the buildup work for Coveny's goal was top notch, the best team goal we have scored so far!

also, how funny was george's free kick!

The obvious team work improvement, and the new 'found' confidence to have a shot on goal, outside the box.

A special mention of praise for the ref, who had the testicular fortitude to be completely unbiased, and to have the courage of his convictions, by sending off a player for two yellow cards - this must be a huge relief for Daniel, and sends a message to the other potential bullies who wish to pick on this superstar's ability to gravitate to the horizontal in his passion to relieve frustration

thought covs goal was brillant - shows eight passes(maybe more) leading up to the goal.

Great crowd voice

Loved the sending off especailly when the guy walked down the tunnell. Funniest thing was that Lockhead actually knocked over Daniel for that guys second yellow. Classic.

Its no longer a problem.

Having seen the footage, I'm now pretty sure I wouldn't have given Aloisis' goal.

it was afair goal ffs, i'm a striker, altho i havent played last 2 seasons, in my last year i was given exactly the same job as aloisi has, to take the keeper out of the play, so that if a header gets on goal, the keeper shouldnt see it. Aloisi did that, the ball happened to float to him, and he put it in while blocking the keeper, any rule against that is stupid and referees are far too overthetop against it.
i had a goal disallowed where our corner taker curled it in himself because the keeper pushed me over(he didnt like me infront of him) and i was deemed to have obstructed.

Hi Toffeeman, wasn't the yellow card for shirt pulling - in the interests of fair play I would hate to think that we won by a mistake by the ref, that said, he [ref] did a great job, some other refs should look to him as an example. Irrespective whether or not against ten men, I thought that the result was a fair reflection of the game, Phoenix were all over them like a rash, and delivered on what they have been threatening to do since the A-league started this season. Who's next for a thumping?

He had a huge handful of Daniel's shirt.  I was up screaming for the whistle well before it came.

How's my driving? - Whine here

Hi Muso - the oldest and "fairest" trick in the book, and you are absolutely correct in that many referees get too emotional about the 'protection' of the keeper - this is a CONTACT sport, and refs would do well to remember this

Thats actually quite re-assuring that the fans know why he was carded. Mike and Harry on Sky had no idea and we were screaming at the TV telling them why

There was a major shirt pull, but not sure whether the collision also contributed to the card, however, good to see one go our way. And aloisi's goal was definitely a goal, im one of the opinion that keepers are too protected, good to see the ref not cave in to the usual freekick every time a keeper gets brushed in the box

I noticed that after the guy got sent off, that Daniel calmed down and instead of diving, played some awesome football. He knew, one more dive and he was off too. He's got so much talent, I say, abandon the diving and continue with the awesome skill. Now that's entertainment and well worth my $25 ticket and $20 car park!

Ricki Herbet once said, he wants the fans to see an entertaining, attacking game from the Nix. Well Ricki, you are as good as your word and now you have reaped what you have sowen. We have seen glimpses of promise so far. This game it all clicked and the team delivered. I appreciate not every game wil be like this, but the joy of being there to witness our first home league win and in such style, has made it all worth it.

Stand up if you love the Phoenix!
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

My flatmate and I (who is also a ref) reviewed it again and I have to retract this statement. After much arguing, I would let the goal stand

Good call

I'm one of those strikers who doesn't like the goalies getting a soft time. I can tackle the goalie in exactly the same way I tackle an outfield player, but it's only a foul against the goalie.

Then again, I have had a few run-ins with goalies in my time...

Not really. Football rarely get discussed in my house cause I'm around it so often all year round. Sometimes just need to stay away from it to keep fresh mentally

Yea. It's that little red thing that the ref waves around and either gets him great applause or death threats.
