Wouldn't it be great (ie for me) for the A-League to have matches around NZ?  The Knights played in Christchurch once and I am sure we got lots of people there, and it could open up the popularity to a lot more people.

I know Wellington got the license and I am extremely grateful for that, and it is important to grow the fanbase at the cake tin, however it would be cool to see some top quality football down South.  A game could also be scheduled in Auckland to get the usual 350 people there that used to watch the Knights.

I dunno, just an idea.

Keep it in Wellington..

If you tour around the country may as well call it New Zealand Phoenix.

Dont agree not in the first season at least, we need to build a good crowd base here before they think of taking games to other centers.

I think it needs to stay in Wellington.  None of this touring business.  By staying one place the fans become loyal.  The players enjoy playing in front of the same passionate crowd week in, week out.

WELLINGTON Pheonix. Plays in WELLINGTON. Maybe in the future, far future, well  see some more NZ teams be entered in the A-League. But for now to get that fan base and atmopshere in the Stadium, it would hard moving around to keep the feel of the Nix.

It has to stay in Wellington
Moving it around the country will be a disaster
And please certainly not to Auckland
We do not deserve it!

That'd be stupid..and It's called the Wellington Phoenix not the New Zealand Phoenix...THe Phoenix should stay at one ground..it just makes things difficult if they play all over New Zealand.

whoa 350 people is pitiful, not even worth thinking about it.
but you could always fly to wellington on the odd occasion... air fares are pretty cheap and Sky TV is pretty expensive.

Hey, twas just an idea.  Would promote the game somewhat throughout the country which would be good for the code as a whole.  I realise that the fanbase should be built up before this is undertaken, but it I believe it is an interesting and possible idea.  And please, don't get so precious about the name Wellington, we all know how well your 'team' does in the NZFC traditionally.  It's not like the Super 14 teams only play in one place, they travel round huh?  All for the good of the game.

lol i used to want the knights to come to wellington as i was pissed off how they were auckland bades and that neva happened but now that they are in welly i dnt want them to leave but i can understand where u are coming from. I tell ya what they can play somewhere else when they play against central coast caz there crap and i dnt care about that game as much as melbourne sydney etc...

Nah they wont play any league games anywhere else for the fact that they probably got some deal with the stadium for ticket prices and sh*t, and plus season ticket holders would get shafted.

The hurricanes play other venues because the franchise is not held solely by Wellington. Im not totally against the idea  but think  we need  to  have  our attendances ticking  over  before there  are any games elsewhere.

The super 14 team travel around because they are more than one NZ team.

Keep it in Wellington - if you want to "bring the game to the country", that's what preseason is for.

If there's too much time between home games in one city people will lose interest and forget about the team.  Big no no.

I thought the original idea was to go to a few different locations, but beacuase of it all dragging on and on they didn't have time to do it in the first season.

I think that it's best to stay in Wellington and build the fan base first as well though

Yeah i think thats what it was ment to be with the KINGZ, but then again id rather them stay as far away from wellington as possible. Dont think theyll think about it this time around, just purely on the fact its called WELLINGTON pheonix.

How about an A-Lueage team for Invercargill? It would freeze the nuts off the opposition and they would die of boredom waiting for them games, in the nice 1 star motels....?

The Knights never had a game down here in Christchurch (as far as I'm aware anyway). They were planning on having a pre-season game here but it was cancelled much to my fury. What's this about packages to fly up 2 Wellington to see the Nix?

I like this, good cross promotion, but probably wouldn't have happened if they both weren't playing Perth.  Hope this means they can do appearances together etc.

Shame they spelt our name wrong...

Monday, 10 December 2012 12:01 PM

The Wellington Phoenix and SKYCITY New Zealand Breakers have joined forces to take on Perth in a unique sporting weekend next February.

Over the weekend of February 1 and 2 New Zealand will take on Perth in a unique and exciting double header sporting weekend. Friday February 1 sees the SKYCITY New Zealand Breakers meet the Perth Wildcats with the Phoenix taking on Perth Glory at Eden Park the following day and fans can get a taste of both codes for a great price with a special ‘one price – two ticket’ offer, available through Ticketmaster.

While both match ups take place in Auckland, Phoenix General Manager David Dome says the weekend promises to be unique sporting event that the whole of New Zealand will want to get in behind.

“Being part of a double header with the SKYCITY Breakers is a wonderful cross code sporting weekend, and an excellent opportunity for fans from around the country to experience the two best teams in trans-Tasman competitions taking on their respective Perth opponents, ” Dome said.
