some facts ..

200910      - then    regular season apps 27      goals 12
201011 - so far regular season apps 8      goals 4

on this basis Iffy is in better goal scoring form this season than last

hhmm, interesting ....i wonder how the critics will find a way to continue to ignore the facts (well, at least the wikipedia facts)

ok - 2nd best come up with some facts that a more pertinent to the concept of "goal scoring form"

and if you want contextual data, bear in mind that we are on a very similar points per game ratio as this time last season

the point i'm trying to make is that whilst a number of people are bitching and moaning about Ifill's form - they have no data (simplistic or otherwise) to support their argument

to be fair I was surprised by the stats - given the views on here, I'm just trying to put things in perspective

O god.  This sounds the WPF's argument about Paston/Moss.

Fact is, football is not a sport where you can determine someone's form through stats.

This.

As i've said on here before, people who constantly use stats in order to judge a player or win an argument about a certain player usually have no idea how to correctly analyse a game of football.

Three for me, and two for them.

I want stats on metres covered, passes completed, assists, shots on target, shots off target, time spent in opposition half, time spent in penalty box, number of sh*ts at half time and the number of times he swears at the ref. Only then can we decide whether the angst is justified.

Tigers has a point, if we are asking on his goal scoring form, he is better performing then last season at this stage.

So what if the scoring is (at the moment) better than last season? I thought we all agreed that Ifill as a player still isn't back to last seasons best.

No. all that shows is he is scoring more goals per game.  Says nothing about this goal scoring form.  He could well have butchered 6 open goals, but that wouldn't show up in your stats.

Game. Set. Match.

He clearly isnt quite up to last years form though. But he is still one of the better players on the pitch.

Allegedly

I actually don't think he's playing that bad. Could've had 2 against Perth - one was created from his pressure/reading of the game. I also think he started very well against Brisbane.

I think that the problem is that defenders know what to expect from him now. They know to double up and expect him to try that drag trick he does.

Also the fact the rest of the team hasn't been playing great and he's seemingly felt like the entire attacking burden is on him.

Yes, for me he's easily one of the most energetic players we have, always willing to try something, never gives up. So much is expected of him that the good work he does is undervalued.

Ironically I thought the Perth game was his least effective performance of the season so far. Nothing seemed to go right for him.

I don't think he's been playing aswell as last season, but he's still one of our best players,

He hasn't scored in 3 or so games I think too.

Thread fail.

Ifill has played in 12 games this season, not 8, which means his goals per game so far is actually lower than last season's.

So is his assists per game, attempts on target per game, attempts off target per game and attempts on target/total attempts ratio.

The only improvement is in his conversion of attempts on target into goals, up from 24% to 30%. His total conversion rate (goals/total attempts) has remained steady at around 11%.

Are there any stats on the number of times he's tried to beat one player too many and lost the ball as a result?

I'd like to know what his 'tracking back' stats are for both seasons.

More stats, just for fun

Paul Ifill this season:

4 goals, 2 assists, 13 shots on target, 23 shots off target, 8 offsides, 13 fouls conceded, 4 yellow cards, 35 grimaces

LOLS.

What Ricki needs is that software that they use in the EPL to measure players performances, with video camera tracking to see how many yards they run, how much effort they put into sprints etc.

I'd be interested to know how many metres Paul has walked this season, compared to this time last season

His getting back behind the ball is an issue.

I'm pretty sure they have this don't they, or at least a lesser version of it.

And Wikipedia claims another victim.
