Information regarding Palmerston North Ground

Hello,

This has probably been posted somewhere where I can not find it (I am searching, but returning zero results).

We are leaving Wellington after my lovely lady finishes work at 5pm. This leaves us very little time to work with to get to Palmerston North by kick off.

I have never been to the ground there and was wondering if people knew the following:

a) how easy is it to find the place?
b) how easy is it to park?
c) how far away from the parking place is the ground? (I have a waddling pregnant woman with me)
d) do I have to pay for parking?

Pretty silly questions that will no doubt be answered in full in the next fortnight, but I am just trying to work it out in my own head now.

OK, I think I am answering my own questions here:

Travel time from Westpac Stadium to FMG Stadium: 2 hours 7 minutes. This is according to Google Maps. This is a generous estimate, I can usually get to Palmy in a little less than 2 hours (roadworks dependent).

FMG STADIUM:

Map from Pioneer Highway to Stadium:

Directions from Westpac Stadium to FMG:

I haven't been able to find anything about whether I have to pay for parking yet.

I'm pretty sure parking is free. Me and a few mates went up there for a rugby game a few years ago and we parked on one of the streets like lombard or campbell I think.. which was a bit of a jog away lol

generally you just park on the streets around it (i.e. no cost), there is no real difficulty there, even if you have to drop the missus of at the gate before finding a spot

I must remember to get my tickets sorted for this...

As there is no thread for this game yet, I will ask here. Does anyone know if the nix will be doing any publicity stuff in palmy leading up to this game?

Whats the nearest tube station or metro point  to the ground?
Will there be a huge police presence between  us and  the away fans?
Seriously though a couple of hours should get you there easily  from Welly !!

The answer to life's problems are rarely found at the bottom of a beer glass - but it's always worth a look.

There are parking lots on both sides of the stadium (Pascal and Waldegrave Streets). I think the Pascal one - right next to the main entrance could be a pay one, but not sure about the Waldegrave one.

But anywhere on the streets is free as others have said.

Parking in the surrounding streets is free.  There is $5 parking inside the ground through the Cook Street/Cuba Street gate (where the cars are parked in the bottom left of the above photo).  Hope you have your tickets already - prices increase on game day.

Radio and print advertising has started - plus there are Billboards at the entrances to the city (yes, there is more than one way in and out!).  Phoenix float in the Christmas parade on the 5th.  The Chamber of Commerce are having a penalty shootout competition in The Square at lunchtime on the 11th.  Open training session at Arena Manawatu 3:30pm - 4:30pm on the 11th.

What will this Phoenix float consist of?

$5!! May well go and park the car there.

Years ago when we moved to Palmy from Wgtn I got a parking ticket on the weekend (not free like in wgtn). When I saw the ticket tucked under the windscreen wiper my hear sank thinking here was a $40 fine for no good reason. The fine was $10!! Made my day.
