Call me a pessimist BUT I think realist is more on the mark. Read that Rikkie and the Phoenix think we still in contention for the top four. How do optimists confront these facts

1. we have only won two games away from home

2. we have only won two of our home games

3. we have only beaten 2 teams all season

4.the team we have beaten 3 times is coming last

5. the other team we have beaten is also outside the top 4 and has just gotten whipped by the team coming last

At this stage of the competition I,ll settle for not getting the wooden spoon to me that will be a successful season. What can we expect for the last few games. Hopefully a home w in against Sydney and two draws and a loss out of our remaining away games. Thats being optimistic and would mean 5 more points putting us on 22 points. enough to avoid the wooden spoon ? probably not.
W    e need another playmaker in midfield two more quality defenders and another goalscorer.  Time for us to start getting real. I love the Phoenix  I  am Phoenix till I die!  and I  hope they prove me wrong and make me eat my words.

He's got to be positive, it is still mathematically possible.
I think realistically we should be aiming for 5th.
A bounce of the ball, a competent referee or defender and we could be in real playoff contention right now.

It would be bad for a coach to say they dont have chance when they do.HarryPeters2007-12-16 20:56:03

Exactly.

I'd be happy with 7th, but I'd be annoyed if the management came out and said they were.

Felt we had a whiff of a chance providing Newcastle lost tonight, but that's it now. Still, we have heaps to play for, starting with revenge against Newcastle in two weeks time.

I just keep thinking of all those games that we've thrown away, either through poor decision-making at the back or in midfield, or thanks to poor refereeing decisions. I know every team can claim that, but there's been enough shown this season so far to indicate that we aren't a wooden spoon team. As Ricki said, big steps need to be taken next year, but I'm confident we have the coach and the club structure to take those steps. Seriously, 4 or 5 games we've thrown away. Think of all those points......!! Lot of lessons learnt this year, that's for sure.

As long as we win our last home game I'll go home happy. Staying away from the wooden spoon should be the priority.
