Why?

A bit of a teasing comment. I always thought his position at Jets became a little dodgy once Tinkler came in with all his money. Limited import slots and all.I hope there isactually a sauce rather than just speculation.
Edit: Thisarticle http://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/newcastle-jets-nz-international-brockie-eyeing-aussie-visa-2203201says he is about to get an aussie visa and says its great news for the club (newcastle) Doesn't sound like he is going anywhere.

Wouldn't he already need a visa just to be able to be in the country?

EDIT: Ah, I get it now. He's applying for citizenship. I guess he would still be a New Zealand player though, so he can stay in this thread.patrick4782011-11-25 14:33:05

I'm not sure if anyone realizes but Jeremy Brockie has actually played for New Zealand.

So have Moss and Smeltz. Both have Australian passports, so both count as domestic players for their teams. It'd be the same with Brockie.

Yeah I was just musing on a Friday afternoon about the earlier story, tangents and passports of convenience.

Mentioned in the commentary of Jest v Bling on Saturday that Brockie now has Aussie Citizenship, meaning he will not be considered an import next year for the Jest

Makes him a lot more marketable to the other a league clubs and Asia. Hard to see him coming home

New Zealand striker Brockie headed home his third goal in two matches after a clever cross by Tarek Elrich.

Jeremy Brockie played at the point of the attack but his radar was off and he missed four good opportunities.
Tarek Elrich, Taylor Regan, Tiago, Byun Sung-hwan; Jobe Wheelhouse, Ruben Zadkovich; Ali Abbas; Marko Jesic, Jeremy Brockie, Ryan Griffiths.

Just noticed this comment from a pre-season game that Brockie "missed four good opportunities"- which unfortunately has been par-for-the-course for most of Jeremy's career since he left Nelson Suburbs as a teenager.
So, good to see his improved form this season.
Agree that Brockie is now a useful player- he's improved his game and become a much better player in recent years.

As someone living in Christchurch who grew up in Nelson, I've followed Jeremy's career since he was a teenager playing for Nelson Suburbs in the Mainland Premier League.
Previously he had many flaws such as being a very poor finisher (Leo Bertos level).
The impression was unfortunately created that Brockie was a capable goal-scorer and an out-and-out striker due to his fluke two goals on debut for the NZ Knights in the A-League and a couple in games after.

This gave a false impression because previously he had proved one of the worst finishers ever of all strikers in any Christchurch national league side in history.
Nelson team-mate Michael White turned out to be a more effective all-round player and goal-scorer for Canterbury Utd.

Brockie's senior club record and goals:
YearsTeamApps(Gls)2003Nelson Suburbs24(12)20042005Canterbury United15(0)20052006New Zealand Knights12(4)2006Canterbury United6(2)20062007Sydney FC7(0)20072008Hawke's Bay United15(3)2008Team Wellington1(0)20092010North Queensland Fury14(1)2010Newcastle Jets35(11)
Note that he scored 0 goals in his debut season for Canterbury Utd in 15 games- despite often being used as an out-and-out striker (2 goals in 21 games in his Canterbury career). I well remember sitting with my mates and cringing at the open goals and many sitters he missed: "Oh no! Don't give it to Brockie!"
Seasoned obervers also noted he couldn't dribble and beat players- he'd just boot the ball up the sideline and chase it.

We found it incredible when he scored for the Knights in the A-League- however Sydney FC soon found this goal form was an aberration when they signed what they thought was a capable goal-scorer, only for Brockie to return to his previous mediocre level in this respect.
They had a raw talent- but not good enough for the A-League yet.

Before this season, Brockie had only scored one goal in his time at North Queensland Fury and twice for Newcastle last season, so his nine goals so far this season and greatly improved play are very positive.
However, Ricki Herbert has always preferred Leo Bertos for the Nix (and the All Whites), and as long as he does so, the chances of Brockie coming to the Nix remain slim.

Bit of rumor but according to a poster on the Sydney forums, Jets turned down an offer from China for Brockie. I can't see it mentioned on the Jets forums tho. If he has his Aussie passport now, he could make a decent wage in Asia.

If they are interested in him now, they are likely to be interested in him in a couple of months. Although he will be wanting to keep his form up. I wouldn't bet on seeing him in Wellington after hearing this.rjmiller2012-02-29 14:59:46

Looks set to leave the Jets. Possibly Asia. Other A league clubs said to be interested. Would welcome him here:

OUT-of-contract Jets striker Jeremy Brockie has resorted to self-promotion and posted his goals on YouTube in a bid to find a home next season.

The 24-year-old Kiwi international is one of nine Jets off contract and rejected an initial deal to stay in Newcastle.

He has attracted offers from other A-League clubs but has opted to widen the net.
http://www.theherald.com.au/news/local/sport/football-soccer/jeremy-brockie-sells-scoring-skills-on-internet/2506982.aspx

Article says that he needs to stay in Aussie for another year to get his passport. For his sake, I think he would be better stay in Aussie, even playing in the state league until he gets it.

Might of been Adelaide..?

Interested to know the MLS club.. Chivas? Columbus? Probably not the Timbers, they have enough strike power as is... Kiwi connections..Azevo2012-04-17 22:54:53

Herbert has shown some interest in off-contract Newcastle striker Jeremy Brockie although that has cooled somewhat and Brockie is exploring options in Australia and America.

Not sure if the forum ate the new thread I created in lieu of this one being closed, so I'll try again:

Great signing - good to see some Kiwi talent. Shame we didn't pick him up in season 1, but good to have him here now.

Will he be in the starting 11?

Straight swap for Greenacre?

Or for Daniel on the left?

Or for Bertos on the right?

He's never scored against the Nix in his A-League career.

I guess by coming home, Brockie has given up his chance for the Aussie passport?
