The Jets are still looking for a marquee player despite saying it is not an option as Van Egmond is still very keen on a star player. Ex - Middlesbrough star Hamilton Ricard is still a firm target.

Think of the players who have departed from Newcaslte Jets since last few seasons (Nick Carle, Paul Okon, Richard Johnson, Jacob Burns, Ned Zelic to name but a few)

Their wage bill must have decreased dramatically and not only that they received around $600k for Carle's transfer so surely they can afford someone better than Hamilton Ricard.

There are still an abundance of Australian talent playing in Lower Leagues in Europe that would be far better investments than Ricard.

Richard Garcia - Midfielder - Hull FC (Formerly at West Ham Utd)
John Filan - Goalkeeper - Wigan Athletic
Scott Chipperfield - Left Midfield - FC Basel (Switzerland)
Daniel McBreen - Striker - Sc**thorpe Utd (Formerly Newcastle Breakers)
Max Vieri - Striker - Novara FC (Italian Lower Division, CHRISTIAN VIERI"S BROTHER!)

The list could go on...

There was some real talent on show at the Asian Cup.  Phan Van Tai Em looked sublime for Vietnam as did Bangbang & Aiyla for Indonesia.  Some of the Uzbek players were also great across the top of the box.  It would be good to see some of that talent picked up for the A-League.
