Three games against the Jets (if you count pre-season) and no goals.  Are the Jets becoming our bogey side?
No need at all to remind me of this.Of all the teams the Jets are the last team i wanted these sorts of results from.Reason my wife comes from Newcastle (yep a moment of maddness) so you can just imagine the shyte im getting from the west island at present.

I feel for you Ballane, but I'm sure your wife is lovely regardless of her place of birth!

As long as our All Whites come back from fiji injury free, then I'm not at all worried about ccm at home

our full squad has sufficient class to beat any team in this league

looking forward to the game next weekend

a game of 'might have beens', with that missed shot of Ferrante, which would have changed the whole tempo of the game had he succeeded and that last man foul on Coveny ....

... but again there were very few shots on target by the Phoenix (as per the previous match) and, how come, in the early stages of the match does there always seem to be an un-marked attacking player - is it a player ball-watching, or a player covering for another and getting out of position?

Disagree with the lack of pulling trigger. Bar Michael Ferrante we are good finishers. Just not our day 2day.

Yeah I was talking about todays game more than anything as  we are well up there in the league for scoring goals so far this season. But when we are poor we are really poor and miss a lot of chances in crucial matches with ping pong footy in the box, (as I guess most teams do at the mo). A little more composure in front of goal and a much more consistent defense and we could have this league well and truly by the bollocks.

Still saying that is shows that we are not far from being the top side in this league.

This match is kinda like a Carbon copy of last week against Queensland. Two first half goals conceded, then a consolation goal with the last kick of the match

Wonder what they would have done if he had done the same with the lady lines person today.

I reckon that would be a class 'chant'  - find out how the tune goes and all whistle it next season (or in the play-offs) when they come here for the stuffing they so richly deserve

I was thinking exactly the same. Maybe that's why she was employed for this match.

Three for me, and two for them.

We came out well for the second half - but then faded again.
We played too many long balls to a solitary Covs, who had two defenders sitting deep behind him and no one running off him.
Dead balls were again poor- even with Daniel. He tends to try and hit them too shallow. Get Doddsy (or Lochy on them).
Looking forward to seeing more of Elrich, and less of Clebo at right back.
I hate to say I told you so - but a back four was not the way to go today (oh and Ferrante couldnt finish a cheeseburger).
My MOM was prob Dodd again - I really like his grittines and composure- our own Ryan Nelsen.
Mossy solid again.
We missed Felipe.

um thats my abbreviated mental notes on the game

Just two comments.

First with both Olyroos & All Whites playing WHY FFA does the round go ahead, to many top players out.

Second Ahmad Elrich trust me is an excellent player coming back from injury. Not to be able to get a run on spot today with the All White players out plus some others will no doubt make him feel ????? I have watched Ahmad for years he is much better than a bench warmer and his stated reason for coming back to the A-League is to prove he is still capable of playing midfield in the OZ squad. Look at the OZ mid field it is full of talent most playing in first division clubs in Europe.

Remember Ahmad just missed a place in the OZ  World Cup squad and is still rated highly enough by OZ selectors to be kept informed of Socceroo details.

Here we go...  Today's result - Ricki's fault all the way.

You've got the All White boys - we knew they wouldn't be available a few times this season, but to not select them when they become available again is pure pigheadedness.

Daniel struggled without a proper left-back behind him and with poor service from midfield.  That's not a critisism of Daniel - Ryan Giggs would have struggled without support from leftback or midfield.

Cleberson struggled - he played poorly earlier in the season in his natural position, his confidence looked shot, his mind not on the game...  So why bring him back in an unfamiliar position?  If the guy can't cut it, he can't cut it!

Biggest problem though - Coveny without Smeltz.  If you're going to play Coveny, at his age, he needs a strike partner to work off.  Smeltz has done a great job this season, but to bring Lia in ahead of George or Brownlie was just insanity.  I'd like to know what George has to do to prove he's worth a start - in his sub apparences he's looked pretty sharp and very willing, I can understand Ricki leaving him out when Smeltz and Coveny are both fit, or even when he wants to play Smeltz up front alone with Felipe off him...  But why would you leave the lad out when there's a place for him?

Make no mistake - with the All White lads in there the Nix would have had a chance today.

Agreed on that.  He'll be worth his place in the starting line-up once he's fit.

My thoughts, for the little they are worth:

1. Are we sure Cleberson's a Brazilian. Or is he some big donkey centre-back from the Vauxhall Conference who's re-invented himself to get a move down here. Not impressed -  again.
2. Ferrante - Stevie Wonder is a better finisher
3. We look good bringing the ball out from the back but the final ball is nearly always a shocker. Give far too much possession away far too cheaply
4. Set-pieces were disappointing again. What happened to those Ross Aloisi 'outside of the boot' free-kicks he used to specialise in?
5. Referee bottled it, should have marched Bull Allen's twin for the foul on Coveny
6. Thought Lia had a decent game
7. Elrich will be decent once he gets a few more games under his belt
8. Remember that any team will struggle with 4 or 5 of it's first choice players out. With our first choice starting line-up we will be more than competitive in this league
9. Why is there always some idiot waiting desperately by their keyboard  to compare us to the Knights/Kingz when we get a bad result
10. Can't think of another one!

Mon the 'Nix

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I confused, on National Radio this morning they said score was 2-1, was that final goal allowed after all?

Now for a slight change of topic, I was dragged along to see the Royal New Zealand Ballet yesterday (yep I have two little girls) geez they can jump and the blokes are fit too.  I reckon the Fairy Godmother in goal, she can leap, just need to teach her the header.  The Ugly Sisters can put their legs over their heads, so a reverse sissors kick in front of goal is not out of reason....

just a few thought but did aloisi actually play. if so he was very very quiet!!!
Dead-ball play was crap! needs to be worked on as our best option at the moment is to play it as quick as we can and try to catch them off guard as when we think about it nothings happening!

I'm not to sure if a coach that doesn't release his international players for the weekend can turn around and release himself!

I don't think he was allowed to bring the All Whites players in? The squads had already been named and they had been training all week without them so...

Even if the rules allowed it, it would have completely disrupted preparations for what will now be a very difficult game in Fiji on Wednesday.

With the benefit of hindsight, maybe refusing to play this game with the majority of our strength representing the National side is where the mistake has been made. Any other national side would have done the same. In the UK, the whole Premier division is cancelled when England play - am I missing something here!

Covered a million times rastus.

Sydney played 5 down the other week with Socceroo call-ups, Perth were missing at least 4 this week with the Aus Olympic side.

If they won't do it for Aus national sides, they won't do it for ours.

Quite a bit I suspect - but probably less than Adelaide pumped on Romario's guest stint last season.  Dumb move - far better off going for quality younger players as Nix did, get the quality in and worry about the big names another day...  On the subject of Nix Brasilians - 3 out 4 isn't a bad success rate compared to the rest of the A-League (Cleberson apart, I think all the lads could claim to have done what has been asked of them).
