Newcastle playing the better football. All of their players are really quick around the park. If Newcastle played like this last week we would've been beaten easily..

How the hell did Breeze not see that hand ball? A much more obvious shout for a penalty than the previous one.

or,

if we hadn't done as better job than melbourne are at clsoing down the jets'  options we too would have made the Jets look good

Thompson sent off for dissent.

Absolutely bloody ridiculous.

Jesic for Newcastle, 84'. Nice volley on the turn. 1-0

the melbourne paranoia might just be starting to look like something...red for dissent just isn't right.

Archie Thompson quite obviously turned to the referee and called him a "f**king c**t". Just plain stoopid considering they are backing the Respect program for referees.

not the result we were after (unless we are secretly planning a meteoric rise to the top spot)

and as for the red - agree DKP, he's probably not the cleverest Thompson on the planet

Thought Zura looked a hundred times better. It is hard to believe 23 balls into the box in the first half and nobody did anything with them. Lucky in the end to get away with it you might say.

Might have to make Newcastle my second favourite team if Zura and Song start playing well, there was some really exciting skillful footy for periods there yesterday.

If that is a red card then half of each team should have been sent off.

Archie needs to pull his head in. Saying that, a straight red was too harsh.

Sent off for stating the obvious. For me Breeze is the worst kind of ref - you just never know which way it's going to go when he blows the whistle.

Anyway, the "f**king c**t" comment is simply the version that the media is peddling. I actually lip-read it as "for f**ks sake". It's no longer a coincidence that Melbourne players are getting sent off every week: they are officially the A League bad boys, and therefore are being scrutinised by refs more than other teams.

If refs started sending players off every time the f-bomb was expressed in their general direction games would be finishing with only half the players left on the field. And I know that doesn't make swearing right but that's just the way it is now days.

If you call the ref a F******G C*** you deserve to go, whether its true or not.  No complaints here.

I think refs need to grow up, that hardly the worst thing thats been said on a football field. Book him, tell him no to do it again and move on.

Sorry JD but its way past time when a line gets drawn over some of the rubbish that goes on in football. If thats the level they have set it at then ALL issues of dissent must get dealt with the same way,the problems begin when in another game players get away with voicing all manner of abuse.

Beyond heading off on a G-rated rant about how stupid it is to get on the ref, abusing them or condoning it is hardly the way to ensure they remain in the game.

The issue shouldn't be that he was unlucky to get a red card for saying something that pretty much everyone does - rather that everyone else is lucky to consistently get away with it!

Indeed, I like this precedent since if they get away with that kind of thing you'll get more Griffiths incidents and altercations. Perhaps Melbourne should change to a red strip, seems their favourite colour of late.

Well said that man.

Ask any ref on here what they'd do if a player said that to them. The red card wouldn't have been for dissent. It would have been for using offensive, insulting or abusive language. Which one of those doesn't cover calling the referee a f*****g c**t?

He got what he deserved.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.
