We've already got Ward - might as well keep the bastards coming in.

At least he never bobsledded Leo like Kruse or Maradona'd us like Chris Payne.

Is this confirmed?

Not sure how a 10 game stint after our season might already be gone will help though

Newcastle have signed Ryan Griffiths from Beijing Guoan on an 18-month deal valeo2010-11-20 11:28:44

Good signing I reckon, (will be good to  see it confirmed somewhere official).

He is well proven at A league and higher, we need a goal scorer, welcome to you Joel.

10 games with a majority of those as wins would see us through to the finals I would think. Then he could stay on and finish the job.

I reserve a strict "wait and see" policy. Our signings so far this year haven't instilled great confidence.

He'll only play well if we get behind him. Forgive and forget once that y/b stripey goes on. Has to be said.

Fuck this stupid game

I'm coming to that conclusion to TopLeft

a few goals might 'fix' my memory and to be fair it's not as if he's Hilter's long lost great-grandson

when is this likely to be confirmed? when is he likely to start at the Nix? Heard it's in Jan? might be a bit too early to announce it. I wonder if other clubs will try and sway him their way..

Yeah hopefully a club somewhere on the West Bank start showing some interest!!!

The BIG question is surely, can he play at right back???

Seriously, if he comes in and scores goals, then who cares is he is a bit of a DB?

come on guys, he is a quality striker, he may be an idiot, but really who cares as long as the balls in the net?

Take the example of Liam Reddy. His signing was met with a bit of consternation...but he made a great contribution in his short time here. Sydney FC wish he could do the same.

I like that Griffiths wants to come here. It's clear that we - as a club - have respect in Australia. The Kingz and Knights seldom drew interest from good Australian talent. Michael Pedersen came and went after four weeks, Con Boutsianis backed out on a deal etc etc...

This.

After all, didn't Reddy go from being a c*ck to the best keeper in the league and a thorughly decent bloke within seconds of pulling on a Nix shirt?

This is correct. Went from being pants and released at Brisbane to being godlike too...

Maybe if we were top of the league we could pick and choose, but we aint. we are in sh1t creek big time, and if this guy rocks up and scores us some goals, happy days.

If he starts playing up again, then deal with it as it arises, but at the moment its all ancient history.

After watching last nights game, I was starting to wonder what the point is of signing Griffiths if we aren't able to supply him any ball to score. He'll end up being another Greenie.

Very likely. I mean look what happens when Pav comes on as sub. Poor bloke struggles to get a touch. We could have anyone up there and it wouldnt be any different.

With Ifill seemingly out for the rest of the regular season I wonder if there is any chance of the Joel Griffiths guest stint being revived.

Yes they did say that.
The following night on Fox Sports News and Views Joel was interviewed and said he was coming to Wellington!

His brother just said 'it didn't look like it would happen' - not 100% definite

If we aren't willing to pay the high insurance fee, it aint gonna happen. I don't think we should.

I do think we should try and get someone else of similar quality if possible to replace Ifill though - basically every other team with ambition will be signing a high quality player for a 10 game stint
