Jonathan Millmow in the Dom Post

What else could he have done?

In the High 5  (or is it Hi-5 in the abbreviated world we live in) part of the Sports section of the Dom Post today Jonathan Millmow recounts watching the last match (against Perth) in the Fever Zone.  The only matter mentioned is that he saw someone taking a piss into his empty beer bottle which didn't have sufficient capacity to hold the fellow's flow.

Is that really the best thing JM could think to say about the game and the Fever Zone?  NZ sporting journalists don't seem to want to give football a go do they?  He's got kids at the same school as mine so if I see him there I'll be sure to give him a "Who r ya?".

seems to me that such behaviour traditionally belongs to rugby crowds and that's where it should stay

perhaps because it is a taken-for-granted-part of  rugby culture it doesn't get reported on when their fans behave that way

maybe Mr Millmow has higher expectations of a football crowd - as i do , to be honest;

or as you suggest he might just be looking for opportunities to criticise football, in order to protect rugby from the threat that football will one day pose in NZ!

I read that just before. He really doesn't like football does he?

I understand your frustration, but if people didn't piss in bottles he'd have nothing to write about.

The article about Daniel was alright though.

That's by Woodcock, not Millmow.

Maybe it was his roundabout way of suggesting that the beers should be sold in bigger bottles.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I have witnessed Rubgy fans piss in bottles at Athletic Park in the top of the millard stand before throwing over the top tier down onto some poor person below. And witnessed RUGBY fans pissing between car parked in the street.

I don't know what ths "reporters" problem is but he is making every effort to discredit the club. Perhaps he drew the short straw in the office on who reports on what and he got us?? Whatever but his reporting standard matches that of the quality of journalism one associates with the Sunday News or The Truth.

I hate to break his heart but unlike Rugby, football is actively played in over 210 countries and territories around the globe, unlike Rugby that's played in about 20 Max.

We might not help ourselves but if that is all he can comment on, he must live a sad life. He needs to take the blinkers off at the 7's. He might see behaviour far wworse than anything we can come up with. Oh but hang on, that's acceptd as part of Rugby Boofheads behaviour and allowed.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Maybe a letter to the editor from each of us suggesting they may want to be more positive about the Phoenix given the state of other sports in NZ this year.

The Phoenix really are the only sporting success story this year and if they can't write about them in a positive way then a boycott may be in order.

Except that thing on the back of the tabloids on Fridays. It's generally pretty dire.

High 5 Section compiled (written?) by Sam Worthington so maybe not Millmow - thought someone would've recognized Millmow in the Fever Zone

The dom are an important part of the 'nix and have been very good to us. Fred's great, I think Mr Millmow will soon learn the importance of the 'nix, cricket will always be prominent at this time of the year.

Definitely. And that bit isn't written by Millow i think it had the name of Sam Worthington underneath but apart from that remark the coverage was very good- An article on Daniel, a preview on the round to come and a article about the nix in the WCC.

Just read the piece in question, it was just a funny incident that someone wanted to share, nothing negative about the Phoenix.

<!-- bmi_SafeAddOnload(bmi_load,"bmi_orig_img");//--> Hi guys

The piece by Sam was just a piss take, absolutely no malice intended whatsoever. The High 5 is light and you would notice he generally takes the piss about everything.

Love the passion by everyone here, but relax. Enjoy the game tonight.

good article by Fred W on Daniel, and generally the Dom seems supportive

BUT, I still reckon Sam W. wouldn't have said that about a rugby crowd - 'light-heartedly- or not

and I think if anyone ever attempted to be passionate and relaxed at the same time, they'd find it impossible to achieve

and I'll go for being passionate about football over being relaxed, feel free to chose vice-versa

I wouldn't take it too seriously, for a NZ paper, the Dom is pretty good to football.

Sam would have said that about a rugby crowd... trust me!
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

im sure sam didnt mean anything by it.

but, if he's interested in that kind of stuff, i recommend he books himself in for the All Blacks next test match at Carisbrook. As i recall (and things may be a touch more civilsed now the Terraces have been redeveloped), it was as good as compulsory for every bloke to take his own pipe for personal relief during the game (not suprisingly Para Rubber always had a massive day when the Bledisloe Cup came to town). If you slipped over, it was curtains!
