I don't think we need to hit the 'early release' conclusion for everyone who loses their place in the starting XI
Import spots are valuable and there’s no point subbing on a goalkeeper.
Yeah it's a wasted VISA spot at this point. If we have a local doing a good enough job we can use that VISA better. I'd look to release early at the end of this year if the situation doesn't change. Poor dude.. he seems like a good kid.
Dont agree at all not as if visa players are lining up to join us. Also bit early after only two games to be thinking AKH has the number one spot for the rest of the season. Yep he made some good saves but so has Josh. So you want to get rid of him and if AKH gets injured or has a loss of confidence or form Boon get promoted . No thanks.
Visa's should be used on your best players. They normally cost more etc.
I'd give him to the end of the year to prove himself.
In your opinion, visas dont have to be the most expensive and i wouldnt think Josh fits that description. Just dont get how people can say get rid of him after AKH has only played two games. Im 100% with Reg22 on this.

The club liked the look of Josh from a distance and signed him.

They then saw him up close and offered him a longer deal almost straight away.

There's clearly a big up side to his potential and I personally saw enough to think that he will be a very good keeper.

The club were also well aware of Alby's ability, before they signed Josh.

So, two keepers with big potential. Both fitting the business plan of develop and sell.

Therefore, one losing his place does not mean the club should get trigger happy like some on here

Develop and sell Visa players. Good luck with that approach.

What if there is an injury, red card, or he has a string of games.

never judge a player after 2 games.

Isn't that exactly what the Nix mgmt did offering Oluwayemi an extension after 2 games?

And weeks or months of training sessions and performance analysis.

And weeks or months of training sessions and performance analysis.

But equally, considerably longer in terms of training sessions and performance analysis for LKH 🤷‍♂️

I still maintain offering a 1 year extension after 2 games, and probably 6 weeks of training is a bloody small sample size to make such a call on an import.

Announcing his signing in late Aug, Chief said "Josh has a fantastic presence. He’s got a good command of his box, communicates well and is very good with his feet,"

I reckon they've been caught out by his level, you can argue one way or another about being good with his feet, but from what I've seen he certainly doesn't have a 'good command of his box', and I'm far from convinced on the 'communicates well' piece as the I don't think he provides confidence to his defenders.

It's been a farce. Now we're "investing" in the development of an import keeper... Should come ready made unless it's a kid out of the academy

Or with a heavily funded loan paid by his home club.

I'm sorry, but a keeper who isn't good enough to start over an academy kid is absolutely the definition of a 'wasted VISA spot'.

We've even had discussions in the past that a starting keeper import is a waste.

If you want to do anything in the league, then you need to spend VISA spots wisely.

Be interesting to see what they do if AKH is still starting at year end. Josh is a very athletic shot stopper and by all accounts has a great attitude so he has the attributes to get his starting position back but he needs to be playing and while it's a waste for the phoenix to have an import keeper on the bench, it's also a waste for a young and ambitious English passport holding keeper to sit on the bench in the a league.

Josh was supposed to be the starting keeper. AKH was supposed to be the natural backup / second keeper.
We need two quality goalkeepers. It might be that we simply cannot get a quality visa-free second keeper and that this is the leading duo of keepers we have right now.  Whether the visa goalie (Josh) takes the field or takes the bench on a game day is neither here nor there.
The situation would be different if - like David Ball of late - the visa player was not injured but not selected in the game day squad.  This is not the case here.

Someone needs to show this to Oluwayemi to cheer him up.
He's not the only one.

Oluwayemi had the option of retreating into his box and using his hands, which this keeper didnt, as well as more reaction time to decide what he was doing. The backpass here also deserves plenty of blame.

Add in the derby context and Josh's is a far worse howler unfortunately.

The above howler from a MLS derby of a sorts. The two teams play for a trophy. Columbus is closer to Toronto, than Welly to Auckland.

Toronto FC's biggest rivals are CF Montréal (formerly Montreal Impact), with whom they contest the intense "401 Derby" and "Canadian Classique," rooted in cultural and historical city rivalry. Other significant rivalries include the Columbus Crew (Trillium Cup) and New York City FC, fueled by high-stakes playoff encounters.

But it's Colorado not Colombus.

As for the howler this is 90% on the muppet playing the backpass. The keeper obviously isn't completely blameless but sheesh ... nothing much going for that as a backpass...

Oops ight you are. And agree Oluwayemi's was worse.

Adam Pavlesic's howler above though for the Mariners against WSW, on a par with Josh.
