Rufer doesnt have to worry about game time. He will be taking Boyd's minutes...
Alex 'The second best' Rufer
Can you imagine how awesome signing your first pro football contract must be. Not least your first job, but actually getting a proper salary to play football. Not expenses, not cash in an envelope, not money for coaching, an actual salary for training and playing football. Good on him
Really can't credit the FSE for this - let's be honest, it's basic premise which was taking 18-20 year old players from the ASBP and giving them a bridge to the A-League has completely failed. It's being restructured properly as an academy for younger players which is what it always should have been
Rufer doesnt have to worry about game time. He will be taking Boyd's minutes...
But possibly still behind Ifill, Husygems, Brockie, KC and Carlos

Yes very true and perhaps only making the bench if someones injured or we go with no defender on the bench. Still just 4 subs?
Moss
Fenton Siggy Dura Caira
Muscat ?
Cunningham Hernandez Ifill
Brockie
Bench: Italiano, Adams, Lia, Huysegems
N/A; Boxall, Lindsay, Rufer, Boyd
Would be incredibly hard to play Brockie ahead of Stein at this rate given Stein's recent performances with the club.
You can not be serious?
Recent performances? Brookie one of the top scorers in the A-League last season, Stein the scorer of goals against amateur teams in a preseason kickarounds.

With current squad I'd have Italiano, Lia, Boyd & Huysegems on the bench.

Actually if you look off-topic you'll find that middle-aged men dream about Amanda Bynes and Kiera Knightly.

But it's not like Herbert went out of his way to sign young Kiwis other than the three he HAD to have.

Kinda - but neither should EM - he has games to win
Welcome to the Nix young Rufer.
Exciting times for NZ football at youth level. Lots of these kids won't go all the way but if we can at least get 2 or 3 that become good A-League players then all the better.
Also a pat on the back for Gareth in particular.....the Youth development thing is his baby. He's the one putting his own money into it to help get it up and running. I just hope Rufer can get enough game time to continue his development.
While results at UAE 2013 are one thing, recent evidence is that the U-17 team as a development vehicle is paying significant dividends. During New Zealand’s final 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ qualifiers in March, 14 squad member had previously featured at either an U-17 or U-20 FIFA World Cup since 2007, compared to only three in Ricki Herbert’s squad at the same stage last time.
"I think sometimes we underestimate the quality of players we are developing in New Zealand,” says Bazeley. “Players who have come from overseas are surprised with the standard and it's higher than what they were expecting.”
(On 26 August, the qualified countries will find out which sides stand between them and glory at the Official Draw)
Appreciate your work, Big Pete. You're a mountain of relevant football info man. Respect.
I'm liking the new approach over the old - Merrick looks to be doing things right.
First thing I noticed he looks confused much like his father.

Shane Rufers not confused looking. Take every Ray Liotta gangster film and you have the many expressions of Shane Rufer.
You are right, nice guy.
ha, my best memory of Shane Rufer is him arguing loudly with the disgruntled opposition coach at the end of a Kingz game as they walked off Mt Smart. The funny part about it is that Shane was giving him an earful in German!
I can't remember who the opposition or their coach were.
I just watched the game again... and although he only had 10 minutes I though he was superb on the ball.
He played some great balls in and actually made us look threatening again. Also, he won a few free kicks with some very quick feet.
Looks to have grown since last year and be a lot quicker with his decisions. Very promising signs and he certainly outshone Ridenton in the game. Very keen to see him get some more minutes.
He looked pretty good the ASB game vs TW too.......although did get a red card
Football: Radical result - Rudan's remarkable Rufer resurrection
And that RR is a remarkable Rufer thread resurrection.

Signs contract extension for next season
Big congrats to the guy. he has come in and worked his arse off. Now one of the first names on the team sheet and a new contract. excellent stuff
For some time i thought he was living on the family name but this season, he has stepped up a level and now I can't remember whom is dad and Uncle are. I will remember this young man for the player he is and the potential he certainly has.
