i'm the one who failed bro - too crook to come out! don't sweat it,
i'm sure we can come up with one between the few hundred who were
there...
how was the game?

Impacted by the conditions. It was pretty damn
cold.
We did think of leaning over and stealing the DomPost staffs notes, or asking for a copy but we didn't think they would be keen.

You could always ask that clown from the Capital Times on his view
of the game - oh ... he wasn't there? really? An informed
intelligent journo with all the answers on football, he must have
had more pressing business - probably working on another piece of
fiction.

haha Capital Times, is that rag still going.
At least the General Manager of the Hutt News is a Football
fan, he's even been know to coach kids teams. There's sure to be
some coverage in our weekly.
Anyway back to topic, thought the Korean got shown up in
defence a few times last and he didnt look as good going forward as
he did in Sundays game. If he's taking up an import spot dont sign
him, we need our imports to be head and shoulders above whats
avalaible either here or in Oz.
A dog with a bone :)

I hope we get an African defender as opposed to him, preferably
younger as well.loyalgunner2007-06-23 12:55:35

Why the fixation on African defenders?

You've got to remember that these are people who have to settle
here to play their best football. Bringing an African out by
himself is far more risky than getting another Brazilian when there
are three of his countrymen here.
But anyway, back on topic, RB is proving to be a problem
position both for the Phoenix and the A-League so if he is any good
we'd have to have a serious think. Korea are a top class
side, to play 47 matvhes for them is no mean feat.

Why the fixation on African defenders?
Not just any old African Defender, one who is really fast and strong, because (I know this is a bit of a stereotype) most brazilian players are extremely good on the ball, but a lot of them are quite small (except for Roberto Carlos) and not a physical presence in defence.
But, as James Dean mentioned, it is risky to bring him out from Africa by himself.
The decision is in Herbert's hands and I hope he makes the right one.

f**k he had Jonas Salley and he was pretty much straight outta
Africa. But I would guess scouting Africa would be extremely
difficult, as I doubt leagues (in which we are capable of
recruiting from) would have cameras around. This Cleberson sounds
alright though :)

if not get Andy Barron along...he'd be keen and probably6better than what we got so far in that position...

i think most good centre midfielders can play right back. i reckon christie will do a job and barron too if signed. it's just a question of whether herbert wants his right back to play up and down the flank; if this is the case, we'd need to see a specialist deployed

Not sure Barron would be a good choice for RB. Ricki wants to name
his team to suit the opposition. Barron would be OK as a RB in a
conventional 4-4-2, but would struggle as a wing back or in a 3 man
defence.

Hadn't Jonas played in an Australian state league
though? Much less of a risk if the guy is already
here...

Yip, he had been playing in the Victorian State League for a while.

I thinks Gings is meaning Andy Boyens for right back not Andy
Barron who is a midfielder.

Na Skinny, Barron played at Right back against the Phoenix last
Friday, possibly on Ricki's request.

how about Darren Bazeley??? on a serious note, isn't Jeremy
Christie able to do the job alright? he didn't seem too shabby

At the moment he may be the only option!! He'll do a job
but a quality attacking fullback in 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 is key.
And yes, Andy was asked to play at RB by Retro Ricky the other
night.

COrrect.
In Season One for the Roar he played on the right hand side of a back four and back three (with Gibson/McCloughlan as the central pairing).

He also played a lot of games for Falkirk on the right as well
as in the centre so obviously pretty versatile, christie is ok as a
squad player cos he can provide cover in the midfield as well but
def sum1 a bit quicker at RB - Lee maybe???
